Other Things to Note
Puglia is the region jutting out at the heel of Italy’s boot, nestled between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
Martina Franca is exactly in the centre of the region 30 minutes drive to either the Adriatic sea to the east and the Ionian sea to the west. Puglia has some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy with very safe waters to swim in. During peak season buses go to most of them but check with your host on arrival.
In the historical centre of Martina Franca art and history come together. Take a walking tour of the old town to soak up the sites.
In the countryside surrounding Martina Franca you can find the magical scenery of the “Valle d’Itria” with many trullos, dry stonewalls, old olive trees, vineyards and farmhouses as well as the donkeys of Martina Franca and the “Murgese” horses.
Between July and August in Martina Franca you can also attend the opera “Festival della Valle d’Itria”.
From Martina Franca it’s very easy to reach Locorotondo, (6 km) famous for its white wine; the medieval centre of Cisternino (9 km) awarded the orange flag by the Italian Touring Club; the Unesco World Heritage Site of Alberobello (15 km) town of Trullo; the white city of Ostuni (20 km); the famous of potteries in Grottaglie (20 km); the ancient Ceglie Massapica (20 km) well known for its cusine; the Safari Zoo of Fasano (20 km); the caves of Castellana Grotte (30 km); the beautiful Polignano (30 km); the Adriatic beaches (blu flag certificated) of Torre Canne, the ruins of Egnazia (25 km) or the Ionian beaches from Castellaneta to San Pietro in Bevagna (about 35 km).

Great apartment, great host, great location! We really enjoyed our week staying in this traditional house. It is very spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, and spotlessly clean. Nicola is the most welcoming and generous host. He and his son Guiseppe picked us up from the station on our arrival and dropped us off on our departure. The welcome pack was amazing! It included wine, lemon liqueur, tea, coffee, sugar, bread, preserves and pasta, as well as olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs. In the house, Nicola also provides not only maps and information leaflets, but also reference books on local history and culture. Most tourist information offices are not so well stocked! Martina Franca's beautiful historic centre is within a few minutes' walk, and all the shops and facilities you could need are also very close by.
I would highly recommend staying here.
Nicola's apartment is a place to call home. We stayed 10 days and loved it. Nicola was always in communication and it was very nice to have him meet us at the train station. Nicola walked us through his home and explained everything in detail which was much appreciated. The home is spotless and fully stocked with essentials.
It was a wonderful surprise to see breakfast items available as well as fruit to snack on. The house is filled with maps and suggestions on what to do around the city. We rented bikes for a week and were able to store them inside. His home is very central and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and again!
Nicola is a fantastic host who had prepared his house with toiletries and many kitchen supplies. In fact we cooked at home twice after long touring days. Nicola had prepared a map of the historic center of Martina Franca with places of interest and restaurants marked very clearly. When the TV had a glitch, he came over within 2 hours.
Martina Franca is a friendly centrally located town in Puglia, with good access to good roads in all directions. It made a good base for e pylori g and is large enough to have many places of interest itself.
L'host perfetto.
Merci !
I cannot recommend Nicola's place enough! It is at the edge of the old historic centre with many amenities around, whether for a quick coffee or grocery shopping for a home cooked meal. The house is very clean and well managed, making my stay in Martina very enjoyable.
Nicola was very thoughtful and provided a lot of information and readings on the region. The printed train and bus schedules were also extremely helpful.
Hosting is for me an amazing experience. I love meeting new people and introducing them to this area that I treasure.
I love my home too and I’m really excited to share it with my guests, providing them a comfortable and enjoyable stay in Martina Franca.
I like travelling as often as I can to learn something new or to discover a different way of life.
