The Space

Charming Downtown Getaway

Just a few blocks from downtown. One room with a queen sized bed and private bathroom in a beautiful house. This is the only bedroom downstairs, so it is very private. You will have full access to a gourmet kitchen. Breakfast is on your own. If you have a larger group, I have two additional rooms that are also available to rent. No pets and non smokers only please!

The house was recently on the distinguished home tour of San Luis Obispo through the Rotary Club. Here is an excerpt from the local paper about the house:

"Sky purchased her 1904 American Foursquare home four years ago. After years of being used as a triplex rental, it was badly in need of improvements. She knew there would be constraints in remodeling the exterior of the historic home. “We had to work with a boxy building, but we used a lot of curves inside to make it feel really organic,” she said.
Bergman, who is a photographer and chairperson of the Cal Poly Department of Art and Design, worked with her friend, Italian-born architect Enrica Lovaglio Costello, to reinvent the interior in a light, airy, contemporary style. They used curves whenever possible — in the contours of the kitchen island, in doorway arches, and rounded corners. Furnishings and decor were kept simple and spare, a complement to the home’s straightforward architecture.

The seven-month remodel was capped off by installing water-efficient landscaping such as succulents, integrated with edibles like sun-loving artichoke plants."

"I am a member of SLOHosts, the group who worked together to keep short-term rentals available here in San Luis Obispo last fall. I now pay a 10% TOT (room tax) to the city in addition to state and federal income taxes. " This is included in the price.

  • We had a great stay at Sky's place. The place was well-situated a short walk from downtown restaurants and shopt, but was in a cute and quiet neighborhood with ample room for parking. The house is recently-remodeled, clean, and extremely well-decorated! The atmosphere is elegant, welcoming, warm, and comfortable. I would love to stay there again!

  • My daughter and I were planning a trip to SLO to visit the CalPoly campus. Having never stayed anywhere near or at SLO, my brother in-law suggested we stay at Sky's home. After looking at the pictures on airbnb and the great centralized location, we decided to stay there. After a drive from San Francisco, Sky met us at the door and she was kind enough to not only show us around her home, but also give my daughter (an incoming freshman) a rundown of CalPoly to make her life easier. Immediately, I felt "at home" in this place and it was beautifully appointed with artistic touches and great photographs on the walls. I wholeheartedly recommend Sky's home for anyone wanting to check out SLO, CalPoly, and their fantastic Thursday Night Farmers' Market!

  • Sky was out of town when we arrived, but Julia and I had no problems letting ourselves into her beautiful home. This fantastic historic home was an exceptional place for us to stay: within walking distance to downtown SLO, comfortable, clean, inviting, interesting... I could go on and on. Visiting our daughter at Cal Poly has now taken on the additional dimension of being a get-a-way for us. We would definitely stay at Sky's home again.

  • This was a great find so close to downtown San Luis Obispo. Sky's space was perfect for me. I was there to see the town and the nearby wineries over the weekend. I really will be back and recommending this place to my family and friends.

  • Sky was attentive and available and her place is right downtown. We could leave the car parked. The Charming Getaway was indeed charming and we really liked all the art on the walls and the kitchen and shower which were fit for royalty. We will seek to stay again when going out of town to the north.

  • Absolutely fantastic place to stay. The house is a historical home just outside of the downtown area of SLO. The interior is amazingly renovated with a great guest room and bathrooms. The shower is great because it has two shower heads so finally both your front and back can be warm at the same time. The kitchen is great to cook in and the owner is a delight. We talked with Sky in the morning and she is a great host and very entertaining. Overall 10/10, would stay again.

  • We would definitely come to stay at Sky's lovely home again if we were to come back to SLO.The location is fantastic, within walking distance to downtown, and less than 5 minutes to Cal Poly. The house is spotless, Sky gave us great advice for things to do, in and out of town, (not to mention a referral to a great mechanic).
    Thanks again Sky! A+

  • Sky was out of the house for most of our stay because of prior commitments, but she made sure that the house was ready for us. The house is incredible! It was perfectly clean, an amazing location, and so comfortable! We loved our visit, and Sky was such a wonderful host.

  • Really glad I chose to stay with Sky! Her home is beautiful and so comfortable. The location was perfect for walking anywhere in town, and meeting up with my Cal Poly son. Sky was the perfect host - helpful, charming, and such an interesting person. It was worth staying there just to get a chance to meet her! I would definitely stay with her again.
