The Space

Charming Downtown Getaway

Just a few blocks from downtown. One room with a queen sized bed and private bathroom in a beautiful house. This is the only bedroom downstairs, so it is very private. You will have full access to a gourmet kitchen. Breakfast is on your own. If you have a larger group, I have two additional rooms that are also available to rent. No pets and non smokers only please!

The house was recently on the distinguished home tour of San Luis Obispo through the Rotary Club. Here is an excerpt from the local paper about the house:

"Sky purchased her 1904 American Foursquare home four years ago. After years of being used as a triplex rental, it was badly in need of improvements. She knew there would be constraints in remodeling the exterior of the historic home. “We had to work with a boxy building, but we used a lot of curves inside to make it feel really organic,” she said.
Bergman, who is a photographer and chairperson of the Cal Poly Department of Art and Design, worked with her friend, Italian-born architect Enrica Lovaglio Costello, to reinvent the interior in a light, airy, contemporary style. They used curves whenever possible — in the contours of the kitchen island, in doorway arches, and rounded corners. Furnishings and decor were kept simple and spare, a complement to the home’s straightforward architecture.

The seven-month remodel was capped off by installing water-efficient landscaping such as succulents, integrated with edibles like sun-loving artichoke plants."

Non smokers only and no small children!

"I am a member of SLOHosts, the group who worked together to keep short-term rentals available here in San Luis Obispo last fall. I now pay a 10% TOT (room tax) to the city in addition to state and federal income taxes. " This is included in the price.

  • A thoroughly relaxing stay in a home away from home for exploring SLO and the Central Coast. Contact with Sky online and in person was easy, reliable and enjoyable. The bedroom with separate private bathroom was well appointed, and adjacent to a fabulous kitchen. The peaceful location is convenient to the town centre and amenities such as grocery store, petrol station and Amtrak.

  • Sky's house is absolutely charming and beautifully laid out and decorated. Sky has very interesting artwork throughout the house. The color of the furniture, curtains, rugs and art objects was striking and a pleasure to the eyes. I also loved seeing Sky's beautiful photographs. She has a unique artist eye. Our room and bathroom (and the rest of the house) was spotless. Touches of luxury were added everywhere (great towels, sheets, shampoo, soap, etc.) Sky was a great hostess, giving us all the information we needed to get places and excellent suggestions for hikes, restaurants, and activities. We loved our stay in her home. John and Elena

  • I am back home and finally taking a moment to write about this amazing home and owner. The home was decorated in modern and warm artistic style that just relaxed you as soon as you entered the door. The outdoor gardens are a delightful southwest theme of desert plants.
The owner was a pleasure to talk to and always left me feeling comfortable to come and go as I pleased. I arrived late and she made arrangements for me to enter. In fact, for much of the time, I had the home to myself. There is no washer/dryer use, but a laundry mat is a few blocks away. The kitchen could be used at any time. There is also a very relaxing outdoor patio.
Location is perfect - a few blocks walk to downtown shops, two minutes to Cal Poly, and only about a 15-20 minute drive to Avila Beach or Pismo Beach.

  • Sky's charming downtown getaway in SLO was exactly that. Sky made sure we had everything we needed even though she wasn't there when we first arrived. The house was in perfect condition, and the bedroom upstairs was very enjoyable for our stay. You are also just a few blocks away from downtown, so you can easily walk to stores and restaurants.

  • Sky's home far surpassed my expectations! The kitchen is fantastic, the bed so comfortable and the shower amazing. Her home and the charming garden are exceptionally peaceful, which made for a very relaxing week. Within walking distance is a great coffee-shop, a grocery store, and restaurants. Also, a bus stop is on the corner, so I barely drove my car. Another plus: I arrived the week of a state-wide heat-wave with temperatures reaching into the 100s (which is not typical for SLO) and so I was very grateful for Sky's air-conditioning--not a typical feature in SLO homes!

Sky's home offers a wonderfully peaceful retreat and I will definitely be back. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Sky, but she was so easy and lovely to communicate with. I highly recommend her home!

  • This was our first experience using Airbnb. Sky's home is very peaceful, comfortable and clean. It is filled with lots of wonderful art, while maintaining a simple, uncluttered atmosphere. We felt immediately welcomed the first day by Sky's friendly and conversational manner. She is a great host and we would definitely stay again.

  • This was my first Airbnb stay, and Sky set the bar pretty high. I am a Cal Poly grad and travel to SLO often, so I came in being a little picky about location, but what an awesome set up. Walking distance to downtown, and it was really convenient for my meetings on campus. All I can say is that she take pride in her place and she was super friendly. Loved the landscaping and the interior was recently upgraded. Very nice place, and I plan to return.
    Thanks, Sky!

  • Sky was an excellent host! She left detailed instructions regarding my stay so i would have no issues upon my arrival. We were both in and out throughout my stay but she was very helping in proving recommendations regarding spots around town that would be of interest. Her place is incredible, and really felt like home which made it all the more comfortable. Her home is centrally located to restaurants and shopping; i would absolutely stay with her again should i ever visit San Luis Obispo.

  • We had a great stay at Sky's place. The place was well-situated a short walk from downtown restaurants and shopt, but was in a cute and quiet neighborhood with ample room for parking. The house is recently-remodeled, clean, and extremely well-decorated! The atmosphere is elegant, welcoming, warm, and comfortable. I would love to stay there again!
