Nice and quiet room in large and sunny 3 bedroom apartment. Very quiet area but within easy walking distance to downtown (4 short bus stops or approx. 10-15 min walk).
Medical Stay - Students - 1 month plus welcome
We speak English - Spanish -German
The room faces the backyard and if you are lucky and wake up at the right moment, you'll see a hummingbird fly by. Instead of traffic noise you will wake up hearing the birds chirping.
Start the day with a leisurely breakfast, that comes with fresh fruit, a good cup of coffee or tea, real bread and marmalade or cereal. We also have a Magic Bullet if you'd rather mix up a smoothie.
We have a large colorful living room with large windows letting in a lot of sunlight, which really is the place to sit and relax, read a book and check the e-mails and plan out your trip.
If you don't speak any Spanish or little, no problem. We also speak English and German. French is rusty, but I have a neighbor that can help if needed.
I have tons of books around, bring one and leave another one.
In case of any questions, just ask and I'll be happy to answer them.
You get use of the kitchen and washing machine and if needed you can surf on one of our computers. The bathroom is shared, but if you prefer a private bathroom, I could offer you the smaller blue room instead since that has a private bathroom adjacent to the room (see listing room/532613).
That is up to you: entirely.
We love to share and enjoy common meals. We can toss a coin who cooks. We have been on trips, walked downtown and hung out in the local bars, but we respect the space and silence just the same.
We have some great restaurants and bars only a few blocks to the north in up-coming Barrio Escalante or head on over to San Pedro with it's night time hustle and bustle from the university crowd. Since my son Noel has turned 18 this year, he'll be happy to be your guide.
In case you are staying with us on the weekend, join us for a trip to the farmers market, where we stock up on fruits and veggies. In case you'd like your adrenaline going, join me for a bike ride.
We are 1 block from Avenida Central in Barrio Francisco Peralta / east of Los Yoses / south of Escalente (East of downtown and before San Pedro).
Close to the UCR, Veritas, U Latina and some other universities.
During the day catch the inexpensive buses that pass by every other minute to move around, once it gets dark you are better off catching a cab.
Bus stop is one block away. Any bus saying: San Pedro works
For your trip from the airport we can recommend a great shuttle service for $ 30 flat rate or if you arrive during the day you can catch the public bus from the airport to downtown and then a cab which all together will cost around $ 5-7, which is what I usually do too.
For years we have tried to help the animals that cross our path and we do have a couple of friendly dogs and cats, which we have rescued off the streets and which we haven't been able to place into permanent homes yet. While the 2 cats mostly keep to themselves and will hide from you, the dogs will go for a walk with you anytime. They know the neighborhood pretty well and will lead you along.
I spent 7 nice days with Alexandra. She was a perfect host and I enjoyed my stay with her. She arranged my transport from the airport, and set up 2 tours I wanted to take. the first night I was there she went for a walk with me to show me the area. when I came back to the house she always had Tea or coffee for me. She walked to the Farmers market with me on Saturday. Her dogs were fun and well behaved. If it looked to her I was getting bored we would go for a walk. When I go back to Costa Rica I would stay with her again and would recommend her to any one that was looking for a good place to stay. I for got to mention how good her home made bread was. Thanks Alexandra for having me in your house.
Such a wonderful and light apartment. I loved the location - 15 minute walk to the centre of town (and just a 30 minute to the local bus for the airport), and with a very posh (OK ... the poshest supermarket I've ever been in) supermarket close by. The house is great with a lovely big living room. Alexandra is really nice and let me do some clothes washing, gave me towels for a hot shower (always welcome!) and had some crepes cooking as I arrived. The internet connection didn't like my Phone so I didn't have access from the bedroom, but other than that it was amazing and I'd recommend it to anyone. Plus the bed in there is actually the best bed I've slept on in the last few months. Thanks!
We spend 3 nights at Alexandra's place and we'll definitely go back there if we have a chance. Alexandra is very welcoming, she gave us some precious tips for our trip. She makes her own bread , which is delicious. And the room is very calm and nice :)
Alexandra was a super hostess! Her homemade bread was the best. She was very helpful to us.
Alexandra's happy disposition and genuine friendliness made us feel very welcome and at ease. The apartment is in an ideal location for those traveling without a car. It is in a quiet neighborhood just blocks from the bustle and noise of downtown. We slept with the windows open listening to the birds and easily walked to downtown plazas, shops and restaurants. We highly recommend Alexandra's place and we plan to stay there again when we return to San Jose in two months.
My girlfriend and i spend one night with Alexandra and it was a great experience. She has a quaint household full of pets and her son. everyone was friendly and helpful with getting us comfortable and situated. She offered us food and a lot of info on Costa Rica. We came very late from the airport and had to leave early the next day, she organized all the transport and was so kind in seeing up off at 6am when she didn't have to. She is a great host and would highly recommend her if convenient for your travels.
It was a very nice stay with Alexandra. We felt really welcomed and it was great getting some help about the city and transportation. Make sure you're ok with dogs before booking, because she has 3 adorable overly friendly pups.
