The perfect place for us to relax after busy L.A. and Waikiki.
Pia is a great and very helpful host.
She had loads of tipps what to do on the north shore, we could use one of her surfboards to catch some waves and she also nursed one of us after a little accident.
The location of the studio is unbeatable, just a few steps and you are at world famous sunset beach. Just a short drive to a lot of other great beaches and surf spots.
Definitely check out the food from the various food trucks!
Pia is wonderful and helpful. The place is humble and homely with paradise at the doorstep.
Perfect escape frome the busy streets of Honolulu. Would definitely recommend.
A car is pretty important this end of the island and there are plenty of great food options near by (just ask Pia).
Hope to return
Pia was a great host. We couldn't find the place at first, so she came out looking for us. She also gave us tons of tipps and ideas of things to do. Her place was amazing. Just up on the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. And we totally fell in loce with the housecat orange
The location right on the beach was fantastic. Pia was a most helpful and gracious host. She gave us great tips on where to go and checked in with us to make sure all was well. The community is very friendly and safe. The bed is a bit on the small side but very comfortable. We very much felt like we had a local experience rather than a touristy one which is exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed making friends with Orange our adopted porch kitty. Thank you!!!
My husband and I stayed with our 9 yrs old son at Pia's place for 3 days.
We arrived very late at night as our flight was delayed and Pia was very kind and understanding.
The place feels like a beach cottage for surfers with artistic accents and Pia did a good job with the decorations and colors. If you are looking for luxury this place is not for you as Pia'a mentioned also.
My son felt sorry for leaving Orange,
thank you Pia for being such a great host!
We have just spent a very pleasant 3 nights at Pia's lovely little surfie pad on the North Shore. We arrived from a late flight so I asked Pia to leave us a key so she didn't have to wait up. It was a bit tricky to find in the dark but Pia's directions were good. The unit is as shown in the photos & I agree with previous reviewers who state it is not for everyone. It is rustic & simple but absolutely typical of the area & you really do feel like you are part of the local surf community. The close proximity to the most fabulous surf beach is pretty special. Most certainly a complete & welcome contrast from the craziness of Waikiki.
I would agree with the comments made by the previous reviewer in regard to both the ' ugly car park' which was made uglier during our stay by the presence of overflowing & very smelly garbage. Also agreeing with his mention of the communal nature of the side passage which runs beside the unit & of the garden area. We stayed over a weekend & the place was constantly busy. Everyone was really friendly which was lovely & we were invited to join a party that was happening on the lawn on Saturday afternoon but be aware it is not super private. We were also woken early on weekend mornings by people walking down the side passage beside our bedroom & by a washing machine started at 6am on Sunday right behind our bedroom in the next unit. Heavy footsteps upstairs can also be heard. The side passage is also quite dark & uneven when navigating at night.
The main bed (red room in the photos) is only a double but very comfortable. Linen & pillows are a bit ordinary.
Pia is a delightful host & really works hard to make sure her guests are happy.
Obviously cooking at home is a good option & there is plenty if equipment with which to do so. Teds bakery is a 5 min walk & does fabulous croissants & pastries. We drove to turtle bay resort for dinner which is 10 mins away & has a couple of reasonable options & the shrimp trucks are 15 mins drive- great lunch! Pia's provision of a beautiful fresh fruit basket was also much appreciated & cupboards & fridge contained various useful or dubious ingredients.
Despite some of my negative comments, I would absolutely recommend this place. For the right people it is quite perfect & much as we were not perhaps exactly the right demographic we did really enjoy it & the insight it gave us into a unique part of Oahu's original surf culture'. Thank you Pia!
Pia was great, very kind and inviting - much aloha spirit. Accommodations were comfortable; location was amazing. Two buddies and I were there for a surf trip and this place was just right. Spent most of our time outdoors and only needed to sleep there. Even though there was only a cooktop, it was enough for us. Together with the grill and the cooktop, we were able to accommodate our friends and host an entire steak and potatoes dinner. If you want to stay at an ideal location at Sunset Beach that is low-cost, this is an excellent option.
