Asheville is a sophisticated small city in a mountain valley in the southeastern United States. It's a very popular and well known tourist area. The city is very walkable with shops, galleries, and restaurants on every corner. Asheville is know for its foodie culture, including lots of vegetarian choices. The varied nightlife scene and many cultural activities and festivals will keep you busy if you like. The area is also known for its many artists and crafts people. Just south of downtown is the Biltmore House; the largest private residence in the USA. The house and its thousands of acres are open to the public. The Blue Ridge parkway also passes through the area. This is an incredibly scenic drive through the national forests in the area, with world class views, and many interesting stops along the way for hiking, picnicking, looking at waterfalls, or frolicking in the cool mountain streams.
Endless opportunities abound for rafting, rock climbing, and backwoods adventures if outdoors is your thing. There are two ski resorts, each about one hour from Stardust Cottage. Golf is also popular in the area. You can choose to be in the middle of the action, and then out in the middle of nowhere 15 min later!
Closer to Stardust cottage are several organic farms, including flowers and a nationally known herb farm. Potters and crafts people live tucked in their beautiful corner of Sandymush Valley.
Quiet and private, our neighbors are not visible or close to the house. You'll need a car- Stardust Cottage is nestled "back in the holler"!

This is a great house that Kama & Ray have taken care of.. very well decorated and maintained. My only issue was bumping/hurting our foot at the base of a vintage heating unit in the living room... even though we tried to be cautious. The location of the cottage is actually quite further away than I had planned, since I did not put into consideration the windy roads that go on top of the mountain and below.. so it's very remote and not close to convenience stores, etc.
Kama has been one of the most cooperative hosts that we dealt with as she tried to sort out an issue for us.
My husband and I have stayed in many airbnb homes and Kama's cottage was by far the most peaceful place of all.
Its remoteness provided total tranquility: not the sound of a car, just crickets, birds and the sound of water from the creek flowing nearby.
We stayed there for one month with our 4 year old son.
It was a little nature paradise for him. He loved chasing butterfly and bunnies in the early morning, discovering new types of moths every day, looking for crayfish and salamanders in the little creek, play in the hammock and simply run around the expansive land that surrounded the house.
Our excursions took us to Asheville, the east fork of the Pigeon river (with awesome deserted swim holes) and the busier Blue Ridge parkway. These places were all between 30 min and 1.5 hrs away and we were always excited to come "home" to Kama's cottage at the end of the day.
The house itself is designed very intelligently with the perfect amount of space for all 3 of us. The living room is inviting with it's large windows looking down the valley on one side and over a large wall of trees and mountain on the side. We also loved the covered porch when showers came through the area.
The kitchen had literally everything we needed, including a food processor and many baking dishes. The only thing I found missing was a lemon squeezer (:-)).
My husband and I worked part-time remotely and we were happy to have the space to set up our separate offices, one in the main floor's bedroom and one in the basement.
We had a couple questions while we stayed there and Kama was always very responsive and kind.
We live in the downtown area of Austin, TX so staying at Kama's place felt like being on a retreat!
Highly recommend it if you love nature and are looking for a quiet remote place.
We could not be more pleased with the experience we had staying here. Before we arrived we got several friendly messages from Kama, including very detailed and accurate driving directions to the house. When we arrived, we found the house to be very clean and everything in working condition. There was also a three-ring binder with lots of tips about things to do and places to eat around Asheville. The house itself is comfortable, nicely furnished, and well-equipped, and the location is beautiful -- it was exactly as advertised and exactly what we were looking for.
Kama is a generous and considerate host. Just before we arrived she emailed to say that they had to remove a trampoline from the backyard (which had been advertised in the listing), but that she would refund $100 from the overall fee, which seems like more than fair compensation. We also discovered just before we left that we had lost a small folding knife that we'd found in the kitchen. When I asked her to subtract an appropriate sum from the refund amount, she very generously declined to do so.
In short, this was a great place for our family to spend a few days of vacation. We can recommend it very enthusiastically.
Absolutely wonderful vacation rental! The gorgeous meadow around it is so peaceful and leaves ample room for adults and kids to explore. Highly recommend it!
We really, really enjoyed our stay at Stardust Cottage. It was exactly as described and pictured -- a wonderful get away for our family. The cottage is nestled in a lovely mountain spot west of Asheville. It was so nicely decorated, modern, clean and well appointed, especially the kitchen. We enjoyed many family meals there and our kids had tons of fun jumping on the trampoline. Bedrooms were very comfortable with wonderful bedding. Kama provided lots of good information prior to our checking in, and the cottage comes with a binder filled with good suggestions for restaurants and places to go in the area. We did explore places in Asheville, but often found ourselves eager to get back to the cottage, hang out, eat, read, play cards. It was a real treat staying and we hope to come back! Thanks Kama and Ray for being such great hosts.
We absolutely loved staying at this cottage. Everything described of the place was true and even more wonderful than expected. Kama and Ray have created a refuge for peace, sunlight, and beauty. We considered many places and were only affirmed daily that we chose the right place for our group of 6 to stay. It was widely spacious for 6 and had the best communal area to spend quality time together as well. Well stocked with tea and games, as well as a quality view, this place was spectacular.
The house is beautiful and comfortable. Great kitchen, wonderful deck, great beds, very private location- worth the drive. Fab herb garden, stars, lovely creek~
We had a fabulous time, and highly recommend for anyone who wants to really get away from it all (but still have wi-fi!).
Thank you Kama for sharing your home w/us.
About the Host, Kama
Hi! I love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. I rehab houses, and enjoy the challenge of real estate investing. I've lived in the Asheville area since my college years, have a great husband and two kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and I like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.
