Interaction with Guests
I live in San Francisco but I am in San Mateo 2-3 times per week. When guests are staying I come to the house occasionally to check mail and water the plants/take care of the garden. We travel a lot so we may be out of town when you are visiting. In that case, I will leave the number for our house manager.
San Mateo Park is a beautiful leafy family oriented neighborhood with large houses and quiet streets. Its a lovely place for families who are looking for a home away from home. Excellent for business travellers looking for a cozy and quiet respite from corporate hotels.
1) Absolutely NO SMOKING anywhere.
2) Do NOT FLUSH anything besides toilet paper. No tampons, wet wipes, condoms, pads in the toilet. We have very fragile clay pipes that clog easily. There is a minimum $300 charge for the plumber to come clear the sewer line. This charge will be deducted from the security deposit if guests flush tampons, condoms, wet wipes etc down the toilet. Please throw these items in the trash.
3) Turn off heater when you check out. It is very expensive- only use what you really need.
4)Our neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful, and our neighbors have small kids, so please be considerate of noise, especially at night.
5)Please keep track of Apple Tv purchases and leave cash before you go.
Please note that this listing does not include use of the studio cottage. Should you wish to have access to the studio cottage after you check in, please inquire and I will give you a discounted rate if it is available*.
The separate studio cottage may be rented to another person while you are here, so please be respectful and do not intrude on their privacy. They have their own entrance, and there are no shared facilities between the two listings.
Lastly, please do not dry laundry outside. If you prefer not to use the clothes dryer, I have a clothes line in the garage as well as a drying rack.
We had an excellent visit to northern CA, and staying at this house was the icing on the cake. My family felt right at home and settled in quickly. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, so if unwinding is on your to-do list this is a great spot to get that done. It's mostly hardwood flooring except in the large sun-room where kids can roll on the floor or curl into an oversized cushy chair for reading a book. The kitchen is open and inviting, we cooked several meals in there and enjoyed breakfast at the small kitchen table overlooking the front yard. My family will definitely look back fondly at this extended weekend.
Nikki is an excellent hostess, responding quickly to any questions I had without it being a burden. I can't recommend her enough. We will definitely look this house up again if the need arises!
Nikki's place was fantastic. When we arrived it instantly felt like coming back to our own home. The bedrooms are very cozy, family room is filled with children's toy to keep the kids busy. Great neighborhood, very quiet and downtown Burlingame is just 3 minutes by driving. We will definitely come back to stay here next time we're in the Bay Area.
Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful house and gracious hospitality.
This property is located in a safe neighborhood close to the airport and highways, Nikki was always available for any questions, she suggested some great places to eat in the city. Would definitely stay here again.
This house has the best location! The house is very comfortable - cozy living room and family room; plenty of space in the bedrooms. Everything was very clean, and Nikki was incredibly responsive to all of our questions. We would definitely rent it again.
What a lovely home, it is so welcoming, we had a mini family reunion and really enjoyed ourselves. Nikki was so very helpful and patient. We hope to be able to use the home again. Worth every penny.
Thank you Nikki.
Nikki is a fantastic host!! She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and it help us out. Highly recommended!
Nikki was wonderful in communicating before our arrival. We were delighted to be welcomed by a plate of brownies and a little note on the chalkboard. We also saw the cleaners on their way out and thanked them because the house was spotless. Sometimes rentals can be hit or miss about this but it's obvious that Nikki takes great care in making sure guests feel welcomed and are comfortable.
The location was really convenient for our family so that we could hop on the BART for meetings and also easily access downtown Burlingame and San Mateo. We wish we had carved out more time to eat at the many recommendations Nikki had shared. Maybe next time! We instead made good use of the kitchen and hosted a small dinner party for friends. It was relief to have a well-stocked kitchen, as well as space for little ones to play while grown-ups caught up with each other.
Our 9 and 4 year old children adored the bunk beds, playroom, and were so happy to be able to use the bikes and scooters in the garage. They also commented that the house smelled good. There was a magnolia tree flowering in the front, as well as a grapefruit tree heavy with fruit. Our Midwestern kids really enjoyed sniffing as we walked in the house.
Some notes are that there are no fans for the bathrooms, I assume because it's an older home. Also, no microwave but there are enough pots to easily warm up food on the stove. And, we took the signs nearby the toilets pretty seriously after having a good laugh (something like, "Only toilet paper and whatever comes out of your body!"). Old plumbing is no joke, especially with $300 minimal charges for fixes.
Thank you so much, Nikki, for sharing your home with our family! We look forward to visiting again.
