Description

The space

we are in the Garden District of the Lower Haight. We have been voted the number neighborhood by the new techie community. We no longer have Instant Reservation and we only accept reservations for two or more continuous nights.

Guest access

from Downtown, you can take any MUNI that comes along, J, K, L, M, N and even the old street cars on the surface (F)

Interaction with guests

Our apartment is two floors. The guest room, bathroom, family room, kitchen and outside deck for morning coffee or an afternoon hang out are all on the fist floor. John and I live on the top floor with our own bedroom, bathroom, family room and deck. The only room we share is the kitchen. Read our reviews and see why we book guests early at a very reasonable price.

The neighborhood

Geographically, we are in the Eureka Valley also known as the sun belt of San Francisco. If the fog burns off, it burns off first in our neighborhood. All public transportation comes to our neighborhood. You can walk to the Mission, Hayes Valley, the Castro and the Civic Center.

Getting around

Our neighborhood is also known as the hub of San Francisco. Very easy to get around. In fact, we are one Muni ride from AT and T baseball park.

Other things to note

Haight Street in the Lower Haight is filling up with bars and boutiques. Three Twins Ice Cream is just around the corner (local ORGANIC ice cream). The Lower Haight is not Yuppie. We are just a mixed neighborhood of local people. We live around the corner on a quiet block just planted by The Friends of the Urban Forest! On our corner is the popular local Cafe du Soliel, perfect for a morning coffee or an afternoon pick me up.

Billy's place was great! Very central with most neighborhoods of San Francisco quickly accessible by walking or public transportation. We had a great time walking around the city and exploring. I got sick on my last night there, and Billy and John took great care of me and let us stay through the afternoon to give me time to recover. They really went above and beyond as hosts.

Billy's place is full of art collections and books. The home is clean, well-organized, close to several nice restaurants and bars. We enjoy our stay here and will definitely come back again if visiting SF. Thank you Billy and John.

Billy and John's house was lovely and had a very comfortable feel. They made us feel at home and provided all sorts of toiletries a traveler might need. The neighborhood is close to shops, restaurants and public transportation, but it on a safe and peaceful street.

Thanks again. Hope you enjoyed Monterey. The weather turned cold yesterday. You really were lucky in San Francisco. Cheers

Billy and John were the warmest and most welcoming hosts we could have wished for. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel as if we were close friends who had come to stay. Their beautiful and comfortable home is in a great location for travelling around the city and in addition there are a number of excellent local restaurants and cafes in the neighbourhood. Nothing was too much trouble for them and their recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing were really helpful. We couldn't recommend both themselves as hosts or their home more highly.

I will go back to his place any time. Before and when we're staying always he was available to make us feel like we were at home. The only thing I would like to have is to have a little more room in the kitchen

Thanks. Unfortunately John is in the middle of a big project and we had to overstock the kitchen. Thanks again. You are a fantastic man and we are very pleased that we got the chance to meet you. I appreciate your advice

The apartment was great and full of art. Billy and John were great hosts, giving us privacy while also being available to us whenever we needed anything from them. We had a great time there- the apartment was big, comfortable and fantastically located. We are coming back for sure whenever we are back in SF.

Gracious hosts with a most interesting art-filled home, with paintings, photos, sculpture and objet in every nook, like staying in an art gallery. But with a comfortable bed! Neighborhood is beautiful, with lots of restaurants and shops in walk-able distance. Real San Francisco. Very nice!

I live with my husband John, and we love our art filled home in the Lower Haight — central to everything. I retired from working downtown in Union Square; it takes very little effort to get there, three stops on MUNI. Our public-transit system is everywhere and very close to the house (be it a MUNI, the N Judah — underground — or the street car on Market Street). Our closest surrounding neighborhoods are Hayes Valley, Duboce Triangle, The Castro (just underwent extensive renovations), the Upper Haight and Valencia Street in the Mission District. On Waller Street we're literally steps away from some of the best food, bars and shopping (not tourist spots). The Lower Haight was voted the number one neighborhood in San Francisco by the tech community. Most important, do not rent a large car or let the car agency upgrade you to a larger car. Parking is too difficult. The rental agency tries to unload larger cars by offering visitors an upgrade. Don't accept it. We allow our guests to park in the street in front of our garage providing there is enough room.

Our home (pre earthquake Edwardian) has been with me for more than forty years, so you can ask either of us anything and that you want to know about the Bay Area and we are bound to point you in the right direction. What else... Ah, just feel free to be in touch. We look forward to having you around!
We just concluded our fourth year as hosts on Airbnb. We are continually told that our price is too low. We are OK with our fee. We really want our guests to have a great time when staying with us. To paraphrase the clothing designer Tom Ford, " Surrounding yourself with beautiful objects, enhances the quality of your life". It is our unofficial motto.
