A funky eco-renovation near amazing beaches & a short walk from a vibrant estuary town. It has a large open-plan kitchen/diner, small bathroom, top floor shower room, 5 bedrooms (three double, one single, one twin) wood burning stoves & big garden.
We've finished our 'green' renovation of this roomy double-fronted Edwardian town house and love living in Kingsbridge with it's great independent shops and a pretty quay. The bathroom is small, but there is a new shower room on the top floor and thee lavs (plus one outdoor loo) There is a playroom/craft room and good sized garden. Along with the four main bedrooms there's an extra attic room with one single bed suitable for anyone and one pull-out day bed suitable for kids up to age 7. It's white-washed throughout with eco-paint and has some exposed floorboards, pure wool carpets, two wood-burning stoves and a front porch which gets morning sun and then afternoon and evening sun on the back porch and garden. The house is now almost completely finished and ready for you to make the most of this amazing area. WE HAVE A NEW, BEAUTIFUL CAT - email for more details on him, but he's a super affectionate Bengal Boy named Tigger.
The town of Kingsbridge has a vibrant independent shop scene, a beautiful quayside, independent cinema, great swimming pool and leisure centre, and a lovely park for kids, all of which is within walking (if hilly) distance from our house. It's only a five minute drive from Hope Cove, and under ten to Bantham beach and South Milton Sands. In the summer months there's a ferry to Salcombe. The whole house is yours during school holiday dates, and information packs as well as food packages if requested can be left for you.
Interaction with Guests
We will be away for whole house lets, but will leave plenty of information and hot tips for making the most of this great area and large house. There is so much to see and do in the area for families with children of all ages and we can leave information about all of it. We are always happy to get questions/calls from guests whilst they're staying and there is a neighbour with spare keys!
We live in a very friendly but extremely quiet street just on the edge of town. Only a few minutes walk into town you'll find amazing bakers, a greengrocer, two butchers, a fishmonger, two health food shops and plenty of other great independent retailers and restaurants There are several walks nearby into rolling countryside, and buses to various places such as Plymouth and Totnes. There are tennis courts around the corner and the swimming pool/squash courts and gym is only a ten minute walk. Stand up paddle boarding goes from the wonderful Crabshell Inn on the quayside and there's the surf school at Bantham each Saturday morning. You can easily hire wetsuits and boards there.
Good bus links. Ferry too! Plenty of taxis on hand in Kingsbridge for shorter excursions although you really do have everything on hand in town including many great eateries. We have a drive where you can park but liaise first with our neighbours as we share it with them.
Other Things to Note
We're happy for you to use our extensive spice cupboard, herbs from the garden and veg when in season, and any towels you may need. There will be a welcome basket with organic milk and bread, tea and biscuits. I can also leave enough food (at cost) for your first day/evening here if you let me know how many guests are coming in your party and their dietary requirements (this can be a relief if your journey is a long one)
Our house is a 'green' refurbished Edwardian house and we try to tread gently - we use mostly environmentally friendly products and watch our water and power usage where possible as well as using our wood stoves to keep warm. That doesn't mean we don't want you to enjoy your stay, but hope that you too will recycle etc! The porches are designed for smoking but we don't like it in the house please. Well behaved dogs are fine as long as we don't know they've been around when we get back as we are cat-people......even though we don't own one.
We had wonderful week over Christmas staying in this family home. Shelley had made the house feel very festive with a lovely tree and decorations, and even left us some proseco for us when we arrived. The house is huge and was perfect for our large family gathering. The bedrooms are all very spacious and comfortable, and having two bathrooms was really handy with a big group. We all loved the kitchen in particular, which had everything we needed and was a great space for cooking and spending time together. Kingsbridge is a lovely little town, with lots of great independent shops (very useful for last minute Christmas presents!) and surrounded by lovely countryside. The many beaches very nearby are gorgeous, Hope Cove and Slapton Sands were our favourites. We'd highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to explore the beautiful South Hams area!
We had a wonderful restfull week in Shelley's house. On arrival there was a welcoming package of necessities tea coffee bread etc and lovely flowers from the garden. The house was spacious with a fantastic family kitchen , warm, comfortable and welcoming. The house was in a brilliant position not just for local amenities but as a great base to visit beaches local towns, pubs walks and national trust houses what a beautiful area!
This place is FANTASTIC! Squeals of delight from the grandkids when they saw the bedrooms and craft room; gasps of joy from the adults when we saw the fab kitchen, the very comfy lounge, the lovely dining room. Squeals again when we walked out to the garden - a fish pond, an apple tree, a porch/veranda with long table and chairs plus fairy lights! We all just loved this gorgeous, friendly, arty house and definitely want to come again. Plenty of bedrooms to mix and match the couples/children. Everything you need in the kitchen. Super National Trust beaches within 10-20 minutes drive. Excellent choice of local independent shops as well as supermarkets. Can't recommend it highly enough. Superb.
Oh my! We thought this was a wonderful house to stay in. It was perfect for our family holiday. We found it spacious, interesting, full of personality and very relaxing. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped too. If you are a fan of verandas, there is a lovely one at the front of the house, and similarly roofed area at the back overlooking the sunny garden, and with a table with a crisp white tablecloth and a string of decorative lights, perfect for al fresco dining.
We found Kingsbridge a delightful town with good facilities, set in beautiful countryside. But for us the the crowning glory was the proximity to so many stunning beaches. With so much choice, it was difficult to decide which to visit, but luckily our host Shelley provided us with helpful tips.
As this was a whole house rental, we sadly didn't meet Shelley in person, but Shelley was accessible by phone or email and responded swiftly and helpfully to any queries. We just couldn't have asked for more or for a more pleasant stay.
Shelly's house is beautiful! The perfect house to escape the crazy city life! Her house has everything we needed to feel comfortable and enjoy our stay. The house is huge, so we had plenty of room to relax and have our own space. The beds are super comfy and the open plan kitchen was amazing to cook in, overlooking the lovely backyard. We really felt as if we were enjoying our own home, having board games and movies at hand on the rainy days and being close enough to the town centre of Kingsbridge to explore. Kingsbridge is a charming town which we were able to enjoy to the fullest, especially with Shelly's recommendations for restaurants and sites. We really enjoyed our stay over the Easter Break and hope that we can come back again soon and share with more of our friends and family. A weekend that will not be forgotten! :)
We had an absolutely amazing time in Kingsbridge. This is a great house and perfect location for exploring this beautiful part of south devon. We thought Shelley's house was a very restful place to stay. Everything we needed and more was available, beautiful and comfortable house. My favourite part of the it was the dining area and kitchen overlooking the westerly garden which was ideal for enjoying a sundowner, of which there were a few as it was non-stop sun whilst there. We will definitely be returning. I only hope the sun shines just as much. Thank you Shelley.
Shelly our host was brilliant, when she says it is a home from home it truly is. The house is not yet completely finished, but you can see that it will be fantastic when it is, (a work in progress) Eco products being used throughout. This did not in any way spoil our stay. It made us want to go again to see what she has done next. I wish it was winter so I could light the wood burning stoves! Shelly's spice cupboard is to die for! The apple trees and garden veg are scrumptious and fresh herbs to use as well. It is a short stroll to the centre of town, which has amazing shops and restaurants. The Chinese is lovely but very busy, the pub at the bottom of the road does superb food and not pricey. Kids eat free (alas mine were to old) plenty of supermarkets and local shops for every taste in walking (website hidden) shops a plenty. A fantastic relaxing time was had by all, would recommend to anyone x Thank you Shelly and family for letting us enjoy your beautiful home xx
We are a family of four who moved from Hackney to Devon and now live in the glorious South Hams area where Dartmoor and the sea are within easy reach. Our favourite beaches are Wonwell, Start Point, and Hope Cove which is less than ten minutes away.
