#Thousand Oaks Getaway

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Calle Buena Vista, Thousand Oaks, CA 91320, United States

Quiet neighborhood retreat minutes from the ocean, biking and hiking trails, Amgen, Cal Lutheran University, the Reagan library, Malibu, and a quick drive to Santa Barbara. Only one mile from the 101 freeway, close to Camarillo and Oxnard. Here on business? Closing escrow? Visiting a student? Comfort of home awaits.

The Space

We have stayed in B&B's all over Europe, and loved it. Such a great way to meet new people, and get to know the community. This room has a TV with Netflix access and a DVD player, and a full size bed, it comfortably suits a single person. Hardwood floors, large closet with shelves, and window with lots of natural light. Shared bathroom, if there is another guest, or can use the bath on the first floor. In the evening, guests are welcome to use the open country kitchen/family room.

Because we live with two quiet dogs and cats, we can provide an air cleaner for those with allergies, or a sensitivity to dust, or animal hair. If you are very sensitive, you might be more comfortable in a controlled, hotel environment.

Our cancellation policy is strict as we try to offer low rates and ask for early notice of cancellation for a full refund. Happy travels!

Interaction with Guests

We look forward to greeting guests and making sure they are comfortable. We will provide a simple continental breakfast. We eat a plant-based diet, so you will need to let us know if you require cream, butter or milk for your breakfast. We usually have almond or soy milk, and vegan margarine.
We can direct you to local restaurants, retail and grocery stores close by, movie theaters (even bargain ones) and interesting places tourists usually don't see. We like to maintain a quiet friendly atmosphere meeting your needs.
Hopefully you won't mind being greeted by our furry friends, as they are quiet most of the time otherwise.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is quiet, and there is a great park for walking within two blocks, and green space access to get there. Within a couple of miles is a library, and a bike shop, not to mention great Italian food.

Getting around

The best way to see any of SoCal is by car. If you don't have one, there is an Enterprise rental car service in Thousand Oaks.

Other Things to Note

If you want a comfortable place to stay, especially if it is for more than just an overnight, you will be much happier here than at any of the local motels.
For longer stay guests, since we offer lower rates, we will not be providing food, but have space for your food in the refrigerator, and a cupboard, so feel free to bring groceries with you.
We aim to under promise and over deliver, and welcome any suggestions from our guests to ensure that happens.

  • Kaaren is a wonderful host! She had everything set up and ready for us when we arrived. Because I am allergic to cats she had been running the air purifier in the my room for a couple of days so I didn't have any major issues. The room was comfortable and welcoming. There was a folder in my room with coupons of restaurants and other places in the area. Kaaren is a great cook and made fabulous pumpkin chocolate chip waffles for breakfast one morning! The house is in a quiet, walkable neighborhood with a park nearby. I will definitely stay with her the next time we are in the area!

  • I stayed at Kaaren's for 2 weeks or so. Kaaren has always tried to help me when I was looking for something in the area, letting me know what she thought the best places were for me to go. She knows the place, no doubt.
We had nice discussions together and I quickly made friends with her 2 lovely dogs and her 2 cats. You just need to love animals to go there, which I do.
I had absolutely no time the TV but there was netflix in my room, which might please some other people. You can also use the washing machine as long as you bring your own powder. The house is big and pleasant and it is located in quiet neighborhood.

Thanks, Ivo, for a wonderful visit, and a kind review. Hope you are having a wonderful time on your trip.

  • Kaaren is a very nice person. Her home is very nice. Her pets are loveable. I had a comfortable room with Netflix, not live TV, but I was able to watch TV in her living room when I wanted to.

  • My stay with Kaaren was really quite nice. Her hospitality was beyond accommodating. She always made sure I was comfortable. coffee was always available, etc. etc.

Her two dogs and two cats were so sweet and friendly. I felt completely at home there. That is why I booked another 11 days this month, to stay at her house.

My favorite travel destination is Glasgow, Scotland, but I have lived in Germany, so truly enjoy going back to visit friends there. I am tidy wherever I stay, as it makes it easier for me not to misplace things. If I had unlimited funds, I would definitely go back to Europe to see my daughter who lives in Marseille, and I would love to make it to Ireland. My next trip is to Nova Scotia with my sister, and then will be going to see three of the Presidential libraries with another sister in an RV. I can hardly wait. I am excited to become an AirBnB host, and also checking out others who are hosts around the country. If I could I would rent space in Glasgow for a month, and just enjoy.
