About this listing
Extra guest room pictured = instant booking.
Bigger room (quilt pattern bed) is available by reservation confirmation. Wi-fi, flat screen, and library of an SF Architectural Photographer
Shared full kitchen.
Washer/Dryer, and beaches nearby.
Lots of light by day and cozy and quiet at night. Spacious 17' x 20' room available with confirmation.
The room offered is in a spacious Marina style flat not in a hostel like it may appear at first. With any "instant booking" a nice Sun Room with big closet is available. With reservation confirmation and e-mail reply specifically for the large room with den/library pictured - the visitor gets a more spacious bedroom / den library with a rustic antique door, and hardwood floors. Of special note: The full sized bed has a bed pad which is washed along with the sheets before each guest arrives. More hygienic procedure than hotels I've stayed in. The bathroom, kitchen and floors, blinds and windows and sills are all clean. I'm a photographer, and I like dust free environments, but not sparse clinical ones. Even better, it is generally quite silent at night here. This is a 1,700 sq. ft. flat with 6 compartments including kitchen and one bathroom. There are two other couples living here. They come and go considerately of your space not slamming any doors - leaving early and coming back late weekdays - they will of course know you're staying here. I rent out the library/den bedroom space when I go to my house in Tahoe, shooting on location, surfing up and down the coast, camping, or when I can host a guest and stay myself too (comfy bunk beds in my kids room!). I don't rent out through Airbnb while I have my kids every other weekend 4 nights if they are staying at the flat. Those nights are not available, all subject to change though. The Sun Room pictured last is sequence of photos is the only room available without my e-mail reply under "instant booking". The neighboring room to your room in the flat would be vacant (kids room), unless pre-arranged that I am going to be there for any reason. I offer airport p.u. via Volvo luxury sedan (taxi fee applies here), and/or back to the airport ($27 each way). With special arrangements - a family can stay here one or two nights and the French Doors from the bedroom can open into that playroom with bunk beds. That room is big and the hallway is long, both of which are a buffer to the back of the flat where the other two rooms are (flatmate occupied and the "instant booking" Sun Room). Please don't hesitate to ask any questions regarding the accommodations for you. To be clear though. The instant booking feature is for the Sun Room only - not the larger room with quilt. The Sun room has a plain white comforter - pictured last in sequence of photos.
683 is a flat in a 2 unit building. Lower buzzer at the gate. There is a lock-box with entry code for the front entry to the flat if I'm not here to welcome you at first, and for any reason I can't reply via text or phone asap. The front door is 683 at top of the stairs, door on the right. Light-switch is on the left when you come in. Then your guest room is first door on the right (black doorknob) or it is the last room on the left past the kitchen and laundry room galley. Bathroom is on the left at the end of the entry hallway. The door with the NASA sticker is a Luca's room. Kitchen/dining area is at the end of the entry hallway on the right. The door to the left at the rear of the flat, just after the Washer/Dryer area goes to the Sun Room (white comforter). Please text me first if you need anything.
There is a reliable easy to drive Volvo Sedan available through Get - a - round.
See "getting around" regarding the bus lines and public transportation.
Interaction with Guests
I can be virtually invisible and never meet you, sort of like Obi-Wan style, or you can strike up a conversation about just about anything or what your needs are. Please don't hesitate to ask. Where can the blue guest towel be kept? I'd answer, "Wherever, other than over wood, but the towel rack on the backside of the bathroom door or hook on the backside of the rustic antique bedroom door work pretty good".
It is generally quite silent at night here. Please respect it's reasonably quiet after 11pm and before 7am.
This is a locals neighborhood and not touristy until you go North or South to epic Landmarks within a bike ride away such as the Golden Gate Bridge or CA Academy of Sciences and De Young Museum. The neighborhood has the Balboa theater if you want to walk and see a movie, as well as award winning Michelin rated 5 star restaurant Aziza or Tommy's with the largest selection of Tequila on the West Coast. I've been in San Francisco for 23 years and lived in 6 different Districts, this one is a fine balance of solitude, nature viewing (Land's End) and nearby attractions, markets, as well as great "dive" restaurants, local's cafes / bars, or fine dining.
You can walk a block North and get some nice views of the golden Gate Bridge and Downtown SF. There is a free Presidio Go bus that will take you to the G.G. Bridge at Baker Beach, which is walking distance 8 blocks. Sea Cliff and China Beach or Land's End are 6 blocks away. Golden Gate Park is 2 blocks away. There are golf courses Lincoln Golf Course or Frisbee golf just couple blocks away. I'll set you up with golf discs or clubs gratis. There are petanque courts next to the Buffalo range within 4 blocks of here. Play petanque while you watch Birds of Prey like Red Tail hawks or a likely Coyote sighting. Don't feed the Raccoons! To explain everything I like about this neighborhood would take at least a week of you staying here with me talking too much. I'd rather you discover things on your own, but I can give a few suggestions, as well as let you have your peace. I do offer search and rescue service, just text or call me.
Balboa is the closest street corner with the electric 31 bus line. It runs to Embarcadero Ferry Bldg..
Geary St. is two blocks away to Downtown and has the 38 bus line.
Fulton St. along G.G. Park has the 5 Fulton electric muni bus which also goes to Market Street.
Closest BART is at Civic Center.
I offer driving service or a car you can rent.
Other Things to Note
I'm open to any suggestions for making my home a better place to stay!
No Smoking house. Please use common courtesy as we do. This is an accommodation in a neighborhood. There's a law that keeps the area quiet and the offices of DPW for noise ordinance are actually in this neighborhood. A loud conversation on a cell phone or otherwise generally does not even happen between 8pm and 7am in this District. 5 dba above any general "hum" from the distant city is against the law during those hours, and you don't hear leaf blowers or weed trimmers in the morning thankfully. Fortunately there is no current construction happening in the streets nearby - all of the sewer pipes have been replaced, yay! Please clean up after yourself here and replace anything broken or leave a note about it. Honesty is the best policy.
Big comfy full sized bed with toasty quilt and fleece blanket over clean sheets. That's another bike available for any errands in the neighborhood or trip to a cafe. Streets are closed to bikes on the weekends in GG Park, just two blocks away.
The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jon was very helpful with my arrival even though he was not there personally. He called and explained how to enter and where my accommodations were located. Since this was my second Airbnb experience, I felt more confidant with the process. I only stayed two nights, second of which I was up at 3:30 to prepare to leave for the airport. My getting up so early was not a problem. I felt welcome and the listing suited my needs. It was quite private with a shared bathroom. There were adequate electrical plugs for my cell phone and computer as well as wifi. Jon's instructions on his listing were very good. However, I did not see a way to print the instructions, I may ahve missed that detail. It would have been helpful.
Jon David has a great location for those who want to explore the "wilder" side of SF - very close to Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, Baker Beach, Ocean Beach and Land's End. Quiet, residential neighborhood with great access to buses to get downtown quickly. He is a friendly, interesting and generous host with a ton of knowledge about the city.
Jon is a nice and helpful host. The room is clean and environment is safe. Good place for travellers with a tight budget. You will feel like home.
My stay at Jons room was awesome. Great location, I was able to walk to-from the Golden Gate Bridge (as well as across!) with ease. Close to many transit lines. Jon was great to talk to and super helpful!
About the Host, Jon David
I'm a freelance photographer/filmaker/artist... part-time rideshare driver with LyftPlus. Like to write to friends abroad and plan trips in Summer as well as find as much free time to go have fun with my kids or get out to walk our loving little pooch! She is the center of all attention here and what it's all about. Terminal dog loveritus, it's a common disease in SF, but a healthy one. We have a pad in Tahoe too and love to ski in Winter and visit the Lake in Summer - so there's that place for you to visit in Tahoe potentially too!?. Always nice to host a visitor here and make a new friend that way!
