Time travel to 1958 in this architectural gem! This mid-century modern glass and wood cabin is 300 yards away from a charming small lake. The house is NOT on the lake itself, but it is surrounded by trees in a lovely secluded spot. The only heat is a wood stove... but there is a 4-person cedar barrel sauna in the woods that is electric. There is also a classic 1952 Spartanette travel trailer as an extra bedroom. This is a true retreat for romance and adventure.

The space
Wake up surrounded by oak, beech and maple. Lots of glass and no curtains (don't choose this if you are worried about raccoons seeing you naked.) The house is raised about six feet off the ground - my kids call it "The Tree House." (Not actually in a tree, but feels like it.)

This is an architectural gem: possibly the finest standing build of a George Matsumoto "Vacation Cabin" -- the plans for which were published in a Women's Day magazine back in 1958. Adding to the time-travel: a 1952 Spartanette Tandem travel trailer that serves as an extra bedroom. This is a highly regarded classic aluminum body / birch interior trailer: many collectors consider them to be nicer than Airstreams.

A large cedar barrel sauna (4 people) and small plunge pool are nestled in the woods 100 yards from the house. Its electric, so heats in a short ten minutes.

The house itself is only two rooms plus bathroom. An open plan kitchen and living area with a twin bed make up the 'main house' and a separate bunk house has three single beds. The bunk house and main house are connected by a deck. Its all very small, but too big to be called a tiny house. There is also a rear deck with outdoor shower and fire pit. There are some musical instruments that hang on the walls and an electric piano tucked in under the countertop.

There is a wood stove for heat. Only conditioned hard wood can be burned in the stove -- bags of it are available at Stewart's down near Hoosick falls and at roadside stands on Route 7. We may be able to provide it but check in about that!

Note that number of guests says "5" but it probably works best for two adults with up to three kids. Five adults would be very crowded by normal American standards. You can get two couples in comfortably by using the Spartanette trailer bedroom, but note that it does smell a little bit like grandma lives there... it is a 70 year old trailer after all.

This lake is a small private community where most people know each other and houses mostly stay in extended families. The lake does not allow motorboats, so it remains clean and quiet.
