Stunning art-filled loft apartment just off New Haven Green, 5 minute walk to Yale campus. Open floor plan w/ huge living room, modern gourmet kitchen, jacuzzi tub, limestone shower. Perfect for 2, can sleep 2 more as needed. No pets, no smoking.
This is the only building of its kind in downtown New Haven, a perfect spot for parents visiting their children or those making a weekend in this charming college town. The loft is a converted department store from the early 20th century - high ceilings, brick walls, arched entries. We have a very extensive collection of art, most by artists that we know and collect avidly. It's classic loft - all open spaces, with huge windows facing west overlooking the city. 1/2 block from the New Haven Green.
The place is all yours - gourmet kitchen, several seating areas, space for two additional guests on an inflatable air mattress. Limited privacy for guests; we'll give you details.
Interaction with Guests
You will have the entire space entirely to yourselves during your visit. We are available by cell / email to answer any questions.
Ninth Square is the vibrant center of downtown New Haven, filled with the city's best restaurants, art galleries, a great jazz club, and a bevy of nightclubs. It's also a thriving residential neighborhood, with an excellent gourmet market. 5 minutes walk to Yale, 10 minutes walk to historic Wooster Square. Yale's art galleries are among the best small museums in the world, with extraordinary collections in architecturally significant buildings.
Walking distance to both New Haven train stations - Union Station is a 10-minute-walk, or a 5-minute cab ride. The downtown State Street station is open at commuter hours only, infrequently otherwise - a 3 minute walk from the flat. There is a Hertz car rental agency around the corner. There is no parking in the building, but there is an open-air lot directly behind us. They charge about $20/day, but one can come and go throughout the day for this fee.
Other Things to Note
3-night minimum for weekend stays.
No smoking, no pets of any size.
Most definitely a most beautiful, generously appointed place to stay in New Haven. A few blocks southeast of campus, with everything needed to feel at home.
We had a great stay and loved this apartment! It's beautifully interesting- and wonderfully comfortable! Proximity to Yale couldn't be better, and our host's recommendations were comprehensive (everything from restaurants to best yoga!), and spot on. Dire weather was forecast, and Jack was gracious in being willing to work with us should we have needed it. Our son's in an MFA program at Yale, and we hope this will be the place we can come to each visit!
The photos in Jack's listing do not do justice to his space. It is a breathtakingly huge and beautiful space; a visual delight with art everywhere. Everything was clean, easy, and comfortable. The neighborhood is urban and easily walkable to any Yale destinations. I used the air mattress to give my travel partner more privacy. We were both comfortable and slept well.
We stayed at Jack's wonderful home for two nights in October 2014. The home is breathtaking and the access to amenities is perfect. If I am ever back in New Haven, this is where I will stay.
I arranged my boss's stay through Jack, and it was an incredibly easy experience: Jack was very friendly and accommodating throughout the whole process. My boss enjoyed his stay immensely, and commented on the amount of care that is evident in the apartment. We would highly recommend Jack and his apartment!
As another reviewer stated, it is difficult to come up with positive adjectives about this loft and the host that have not been used before. Jack was quickly responsive to any questions, and provided a useful guide to the loft and surrounding area. The beautiful loft is actually much larger than one would expect from the pictures, and is filled with interesting art work and artifacts without feeling "cluttered". The location is perfect for exploring New Haven and the Yale art galleries. We hope we have the opportunity to stay here again.
A real 'Cabinet of Wonder' in oversize! As hopefully returning visiting teachers at Yale Art School – we know already where we wanna stay next time...

My partner and I use this wonderful loft as a weekend getaway. New Haven is a perfect urban village - with two of the best art museums in Connecicut a few steps from your door. The Yale Art Gallery & the British Art Center are outstanding for their collections and their informative tours.
New Haven is also a great city for dining, with an amazing variety of cuisines, from farm-to-table to family Italian to sophisticated Asian, as well as sushi, Southwestern, Caribbean, and Eastern European. The great old-school Italian neighborhood of Wooster Square is a just a few blocks walk east.
We are real culture vultures, who try to take advantage of New Haven's riches - concerts, theatre, galleries, museums, and more. The International Festival of Arts and Ideas is a major highlight of the season for us.
We also walk and hike in the city's many parks, and like to sail on Long Island Sound.
