Space for two in tidy owner-occupied home. 2.5 miles to downtown TC and just a few hundred yards to beach on East Grand Traverse Bay. Few frills but rates are the best in town!
Great location for a visit to the National Cherry Festival, the Traverse City Film Festival, a ski trip, motorcycle tour or weekend stay. Walking distance to Keith J. Charters State Park beach. TART trail is less than 1/4 mile away and provides miles of biking/walking/jogging and an easy trip to TC, Acme and beyond.
Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas (and their respective wineries) are nearby; Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Crystal Mountain resort are about 45 minutes away.
Bedroom is private but we have to share the rest of the house. Guest room features a pull-out trundle bed. I will provide clean linens and a cat to pet! Quiet backyard with patio, grill, lawn chairs and a firebowl.
While I can accommodate a third or fourth person they will have to sleep on my futon, which is not in a private room and not as comfortable as the beds. Also requires signing of Release Form to indemnify against back/neck ache or serving as feline sleeping platform.
If you arrive on two wheels you get free parking in the "Garage Mahal" and use of any tools you need during your stay. If needed, I have several great roads and routes for you to investigate--trips from an hour to all day.
Interaction with Guests
You will be free to come and go as you please during your stay. I won't provide the entertainment but will be happy to tell you where to go for eats, drinks and good times. Depending on the week I may have a few goodies to snack on in the cupboards or refrigerator but you should plan to be on your own for food. Light breakfast items usually available and coffee maker is ready to go.
Residential neighborhood is nice for walking, grocery store is one mile away. There's even a playground and dirt alleys to explore. Attractions and restaurants aplenty just to the east along M31/M72.
If you want to leave the driving to someone else the Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA [(email hidden)]) offers many routes connecting Traverse City, Suttons Bay, Glen Arbor, Interlochen, Kingsley and Williamsburg.
Other Things to Note
I don't have cable TV or Internet access (I'm not a caveman; I work with computers all day long and don't need to come home and spend MORE time on a computer).
Not really suitable for guests with children or pets...limited space to put them and sleep them.
If you make it dirty, clean it up. If it breaks, tell me.
I try to generate as little trash as I can so expect to add to the recycling bins or compost pile if that's the case.
Smoking outdoors is fine but butts go in the trash. Leave them in my yard and your stay will end prematurely.
Don't be mean to my cat. If you are, she will steal your breath while you sleep.
My husband and I had a great overnight stay at Dave’s. I requested it with very short notice and was approved quickly. We arrived while Dave was out and felt comfortable enough to immediately take over his kitchen. The space was tidy, the bed was comfy, and despite it being close to a main road, it was very quiet (and I am a light sleeper). Dave was charming, and his cats were friendly**. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others based on our experience and the close proximity to downtown Traverse City.
**From reading the reviews, I understand Winston has a reputation for sleeping with the guests, but with me, I felt it was special. ;)
Comfortable room for two was a great place and Dave was a wonderful host. I can say if I am staying in the area again this will be my 1st choice.
Dave was a great host. We arrived late on a Thursday which was no problem. We didn't see much of Dave after that night because he had to work, but we felt very comfortable staying in his house. The location was great, just a short drive to downtown TC. His cats were friendly. Will recommend to friends and hopefully make a return visit!
Dave is a great host. Very flexibel about the check in and fun to chat with. He and his girlfriend gave excellent recommendations for lunch and breakfast. The house is great, too. Our room (and the rest of the house) was very clean and had everything we needed. It is possible to hang out in the hammock or make a fire in the backyard (both of which we didn't have time to do, unfortunately). I absolutely recommend Dave's place for stying in Traverse City.
Dave was very communicative and even though he was out of town, he still made us feel very welcome. The house was clean and comfortable, and it is super close to the airport. If I go back to the area, I would happily stay there again (and hopefully get to meet him in person!).
Dave was a fantastic host! He provided a very clean, nice and comfortable space with material for happenings in the area and recommended attractions. Not only did he leave us a pot of coffee and a nice note, he also spent his Friday afternoon talking with us and that alone was worth the stay. His cats are quite entertaining and extremely friendly, and this positive feedback on them is coming from a dog person.
I was in the marching band in high school AND Boy Scouts (I'm an Eagle Scout too, so go stick that in your pipe and smoke it) so I've got a real appreciation for music AND I know how to treat for heat stroke, hypothermia and shock.
Being raised on MAD Magazine and Saturday Night Live I have developed a great appreciation for snark, satire and commentary that turns our everyday world on its head and says "Why IS our world like that?" For example, why do basketball players always need someone else to help them up when they fall? Don't they go over that in practice?
I digress. Being in the BSA also created a love of the outdoors so I like to camp in a tent and rough it occasionally. I'm also a merit badge counselor.
I own two vintage Hodaka off-road motorcycles and one Suzuki streetbike and take great pleasure in riding them. I also enjoy cruising about in my old hot-rod station wagon. Chicks dig it.
By using airbnb, my goal is to provide affordable options to vacationers and travelers. I can appreciate the need to stick to a budget and the resorts and hotels in this area can break a budget in one night. It's also neat to see people from other parts of the world and to provide my guests with something other than a boring old motel room.
