Ca la Daina is a beautiful and lovingly restored house with sweeping views sleeping 16 in the medieval village of Camarasa. Fully equipped and centrally heated it is ideal for summer or winter, family or friends. Ideal for climbers and walkers.
Our 16th century home is built over 5 floors offering 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 2 well equipped kitchens, two living rooms and a large roof terrace with stunning views over river and mountains. It is fully refurbished but retains many period features including a log fire. The house is also centrally heated making it suitable for year round rental and offers wifi internet access for essential connections with everyday life!
Ca La Daina is a perfect place for a family gathering, a serious climbing expedition, a cycling stay, a stargazing party or simply lazing in the sun on the terrace!
Camarasa is a traditional catalan village with a wonderful bakery just a minute's walk from the front door and local shops and cafes. For children there is a park just opposite the front door and a full size swimming pool in the village that is open throughout the summer.
We have a high-chair and a cot and there are quite a few board games, DVDs and books. All linen and bathtowels are provided and the two kitchens are fully equipped and have a selection of herbs and spices. There is plenty of on-street parking in font of our door. Rental rates include laundry, general cleaning, heating and logs for the fire.
The whole house is available for rental except for one storage room.
Interaction with Guests
We are very often at the house with friends but we are offering it for rental when we are not living there. Our housekeeper Rosa lives in the village and looks after the house for us in our absence. She speaks English and will welcome you and answer any questions.
Basically the area is a paradise for those who love mountains, rivers, lakes, Spanish village life, ruined castles and historic villages, all in an undiscovered area.
The area is one of Europe's finest rock-climbing areas with countless routes of all grades close to the house. Walkers will find many wonderful tracks through mountains and along rivers and lakes.
Set between the foothills of the Montsec Mountains and the flatlands of Lleida where the Segre and Noguera Ribagorçana rivers meet, the Noguera area is full of contrasts. Lovers of art and architecture will find in the Noguera many examples of its rich history such as monasteries, churches, paintings, sculptures, crypts, castles etc. You can visit examples of the Romanesque era (church of Sant Pere de Ponts or the Monastery of las Franqesas), of Islamic architecture (Alcabassa de Balaguer and the castle of los Condes de Urgell) and of Catalan Gothic (Monastery of Collegiata de Santa Maria de Balaguer). Particular recommendations are the Baronia de Sant Oïsme and Maria de Bellpuig de Avellanes as well as the villages of Camarasa, Cubells and Àger.
With the peaceful waters of its lakes and reservoirs, the mountains and the plain, the Noguera offers endless opportunities for sport and adventure sport in the middle of nature.
Balaguer, the nearest town, is pretty and busy with plenty of restuarants, shops and supermarkets whilst Lleida (Lerida), the provincial capital, is just 30 minutes drive away.
Barcelona is about one and a half hour's drive away (or by train) so can easily be visited in a day.
Pretty much all roads in the area have been upgraded in the last few years so driving is a pleasure. There is plenty of on-street parking just in front of the house. Gufh speed trains come to nearby Lleida with a small mountain line completing the journey to Balaguer
There is a high-speed AVE train service linking Lleida with Madrid and Barcelona and a regular local train service from there to Balaguer so, with the addition of a €10 taxi from Balaguer (I can give you the number) the house is easily accessible by public transport.
The house is yours whilst you are renting it! But you need to leave it as you found it out of consideration for Rosa. Smoking only on the roof terrace and pets only by prior agreement. BY LAW we cannot have barbecues on the terrace.
