The space
Our tiny cabin sits at the edge of the Alvord Desert on a 160-acre regenerative homestead, inside the Oregon Outback Dark Sky Sanctuary, the world's largest at 2.5 million acres. No light pollution. No cell service. Just you, Steens Mountain, and more stars than you've seen in your life.
This thoughtfully designed tiny cabin features two queen beds. One queen is nestled in a cozy loft, accessible by ladder perfect for an adventurous spirit! You'll be surrounded by custom woodworking, including a stunning knotty pine ceiling and a beautiful juniper wood counter. For your comfort, a propane heater is available for cooler seasons and a ceiling fan for warmer days. Fully off the grid.
Our one of a kind tiny cabin is designed for seamless indoor-outdoor living, offering you unparalleled privacy and a front row seat to the desert's breathtaking magic. Step outside and directly onto the Alvord Playa, where vast public lands stretch endlessly under a canopy of brilliant stars. This is your chance to truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature's embrace.
**Please be aware this is the edge of the Alvord desert and there is no running water at the cabin. Please bring all water needed for your stay, plus extra.

Driving through the Farm: To ensure the safety of our livestock and dogs, please notify us when you are driving up the road to the farm. If your vehicle has good ground clearance, guests may also exiting through the playa via the public access point. Ask for details.
Playa Access: The Alvord Playa is just a short walk away. You will have private gate access to drive on the Alvord Desert. Please use caution when driving on the playa as the mud is impassable in winter and early spring. Ask about current conditions when you arrive.
Inside, you'll find a comfortable king size bed in a cozy loft, requiring a climb of about 4.5 feet.
Bedding is provided, but many guests enjoy bringing extra blankets for added comfort. The back of the trailer features a table and two chairs for enjoying your meals or morning coffee, and a hammock is included for ultimate relaxation.
Basic cooking supplies are available for food preparation plus an outdoor propane BBQ with side burner for cooking. If you forget something, please reach out. We likely have a spare!

Pack Layers: Evenings in the desert are cool, while days are usually warm, so packing layers is essential.
Stay Hydrated & Protected: The dry desert air makes you thirsty, so bring lots of water. Don't forget bug spray and sunscreen!

We are pet friendly: Your furry friends are welcome! We just ask that they stay off the beds. A $40 cleaning fee will be charged if signs pets are found on the bedding. Please ensure dogs remain on leash when behind the fence and always clean up after them.
Bathhhouse: A shared bathhouse with a composting toilet is conveniently located, a short walk from your space.
Fire Use: Fires are only permitted on the Alvord Desert and never during high fire season. Ask about current fire restrictions, before ever lighting a fire. Seasonally, firewood is available for purchase.

Exiting to the playa, a 3.3 mile trip north will deliver you to the Alvord Hot Springs. 40 miles to the south you can enjoy spectacular food, fuel and service at Denio Junction. Trails and adventure await in any direction you point! Some of our favorite, local trails are just a few miles up the road.

We are Jesse and Kristin, a young couple homesteading in the High Desert of Oregon. On our 160 acres, you can find breathtaking beauty with views and abundance of wildlife. As a permaculture design specialist, Jesse brings a unique love for this magical place and maintaining it's pristine beauty. Kristin is a professional canine behaviorist and dog trainer as well as a certified yoga instructor! Staying here is more than a place to sleep, it is an experience!
