Experience an achterhuis in Amstdam

Apartment - Private room · Oudezijds Voorburgwal, Amsterdam, North Holland 1012, Netherlands

A jolly little apartment in the top of an old building on one of these old canals

The Space

The apartment is uniquely situated in the historical heart of Amsterdam. In this canal house it is the "achterhuis" (back house) apartment on the top two floors and consists out of a cosy drawing room with kitchen on the lower floor and a romantic bedroom in the attic under the roof. Two extra people can sleep on the sofa, that can be turned into a bed.

The house was built in 1638, the back house is even older, probably built at the beginning of the 16th century. The house is located between the Oudezijds Achterburgwal and the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, dug in 1352 as defense wall against the sea. A stay in the achterhuis gives you the sense of living in medieval Amsterdam.

Although the apartment is located in a busy area, the back house is a quiet spot in the middle of Amsterdam.

The canal house is in the heart of central Amsterdam. In the neighborhood are the major shopping streets and the streets with the bars, coffee shops and restaurants of all kind. Just around the corner you'll find the Red Light district.
All the museums and other attractions are within walking distance, but next door are several bicycle rentals, plus all the public transport is close. Getting there and away.

I'am sure you will feel at home and have a very good experience. If not just let me know!

★ Tram-stop Spui - 400 m (5 minutes walk)
★ Metro stop Nieuwmarkt - 500 m (6 minutes walk)
★ Central Railway Station – 1.1 km (15 minutes walk)
★ Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - 20 km

There's a shared bathroom and the toilet is in the hallway, but for the rest, this apartment is the perfect hideaway.

Interaction with Guests

When my guests are interested and I have time, I like to invite the guests for a drink.
When the weather is nice and I am at home, I like to invite the guests to a trip over the canals on my little boat.

The Neighborhood

This part of the city is the heart, meaning all the cultural life, the shops, restaurants and the night life are nearby, if not around the corner. It is the most lively, busy part of the city.

Getting around

The place is 700 meters from Central Station. All the tram and bus stops are on Dam square or behind, just around the corner.

  • I really enjoyed my time in Amsterdam and my stay at Edwards accommodation. Edward was a perfect host! My friend and I arrived 2 hours later than I originally expected (from Paris) and Edward greeted us as soon as we arrived. He sat with us and explained to us how to get to all of the places that we wanted to see. The room was comfortable and the environment was quiet---even though it was in walking distance of everything we wanted to see in Amsterdam. Would recommend this place to anyone and I would love to stay again.

  • Perfect Booking, fast reply, great street, in the center of Amsterdam where everything is nearby, perfect location!
Great neighbors, always helping in everything you need.
We staid 4 people in the house, 2 upstairs and 2 on the big couch/bed with no problem.
Edward always preoccupied with our stay if everything is OK.
    I really recommend.

  • Edward was a lovely host! We arrived quite early and he provided us with coffee and a chat. He has a dog called Elmo which is very friendly - Edward let us take her for a walk! The house is gorgeous and the perfect spot - we were able to walk to coffeeshops, the cat boat, the Anne Frank house and around the centre absolutely fine. The room has a shared bathroom and shower with a sweet guy living below. We felt really comfortable and didn't want to leave! Lovely double bed in the top room with beautiful beams as the ceiling, the downstairs has a fireplace and lots of comfy chairs and a huge sofa bed. We would like to return in the summer and Edward said he will take us on his boat if we do! Really lovely guy, we had a drink with him on our last night and he was very generous! We're missing you! xx
