The Space Room at Science! House is a private room in an attractive two story town home. Come share our big, well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room, and fenced-in, stone-paved patio.

The Space

Your bedroom is one of two private rooms on the second floor. The Space Room was intended as the home's master bedroom and has a private bath with a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower stall. The bedroom is furnished with a comfortable queen sized bed and is decorated with a space theme (Selby is a planetary geologist and Chad is a science fiction enthusiast).

For more than two guest we can provide additional sleeping space in the form of a very comfortable queen sized Japanese floor futon.

Guest Access

Feel free to browse and enjoy our extensive board game collection. Play as much as you like (or join us in a game) but please do put the games away in the condition that you found them.

Interaction with Guests

You might get to meet Tommy Dog during your stay, our lovable pony-sized canine. He is old, friendly, and mostly sleeps all day in the basement. He happily accepts cuddles, though he might protest that he doesn't deserve them. We keep a clean house with the help of our Roomba, but those with pet allergies be warned: this is Tommy Dog's house too.

We love having guests in the house. The entire first floor is shared with us and we'd love to have a conversation over coffee in the morning or have you join us for a board game or a movie. At the same time, there is abundant private space. We retreat to our finished basement for alone time and the guests have the second floor practically to themselves (except for our showers in the shared hall bathroom).

The Neighborhood

The house is great, but it's the neighborhood that brought us to this little corner of Northern Liberties. Our street is quiet, but our neighborhood is exciting. There is something interesting at almost every street corner. We are half a block from Honey's, the most celebrated breakfast spot in Philadelphia. The Random Tea Room and Curiosity Shop is even closer. North 3rd and the Abbeye are both great beer bars and are each a block away. There are restaurants, shops, entertainment spots, parks, playgrounds, and a community center with a free swimming pool (summer months only) all within easy walking distance. The streets are safe and the new construction everywhere is a testament that Northern Liberties is still growing. Some of the homes are marvels.

Getting around

A short walk to the MFL subway, and, from there, it's a 10 minute subway ride to the Convention Center, 15 minutes to Drexel University & the University of Pennsylvania, and easy to get to the Art Museum, Independence Hall, and Old City. Free parking is relatively easy to find and we have a couple shared spots on site (often, but not always available)

Other Things to Note

We are GLBT and alternative relationship friendly.

  • Chad and Selby are accommodating and warm, and they were very helpful anytime I had questions or needed something. The bedroom is very spacious and the private bathroom is a huge plus, especially with the jacuzzi tub. The bed is super comfy, to boot. I was here for three weeks and overall had a great experience.

  • Chad and Selby were great hosts! The room and bathroom were nice and clean. Convenient location and great place to stay for the weekend.

  • This was my first time to use this site and I was very pleased. The room was as advertised. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean upon my arrival. I had some flight delays at the airport but Lissa was very flexible in making arrangements to get me the key. The neighborhood is pretty damn awesome. Nice selection of bars, coffeeshops and transit within walking distance. Would definitely recommend.

  • I planned to stay in Philadelphia for one night so I booked the place which made a great impression on the pictures. I ended up spending two days in Philly and Lissa showed me great places. Since it was beginning of Beer Week it was even better than I could have imagined.

Lissa (email hidden) and a very lovely girl. I can only recommend to book a place with her. She's the type if people which truly understand what people on Airbnb are looking for.

  • Chad, Selby and Lissa were all there to meet us when we arrived, a warm welcome into a "you can come and go whenever you like" household. This felt very homely. The room was fun and the bed was super comfortable!! We had a good time and unfortunately our stay was to short for trying one of the many boardgames in the house.

  • The house was in a GREAT location in the middle of a neighborhood with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. It's conveniently close to the MFL line and several bus lines if you want to take SEPTA everywhere. The Space Room had a fantastically comfy bed with plenty of space to put things; my only complain was that there was little counter space in the bathroom, but it wasn't hard to get around. Chad and Selby were very welcoming, and were very accommodating when I hung around after my check out time waiting for my flight. Highly recommended!

Response from Chad & Selby & Lissa:

(website hidden) translate for non-French speakers: A perfectly situated room less than 10 minutes walk from the metro Spring Garden where you can reach the center very easily. The area is is old houses and industrial buildings renovated gradually. It is very nice with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Street and house are very quiet and the bed comfortable. Chad, Selby and their (very) big dog are friendly and ready to help. A bb but the cleanliness in the room and public areas

  • I stayed here with my two children, ages 6 & 9 and was relieved to find it to be so kid-friendly. My son was afraid of Tommy the dog, but Tommy is more well-trained than my son (and probably easier to train...hah!). The kids went crazy over the giant chalkboard on the bathroom wall and they loved exploring room to room. Chad and Selby couldn't have been more hospitable. My only regret is that I could only stay one night.. would definitely consider staying here again the next time I plan a trip to Philly!
