About this listing
The Space Room at Science! House is a private room in an attractive two story town home. Come share our big, well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room, and fenced-in, stone-paved patio.
Your bedroom is one of two private rooms on the second floor. The Space Room was intended as the home's master bedroom and has a private bath with a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower stall. The bedroom is furnished with a comfortable queen sized bed and is decorated with a space theme (Selby is a planetary geologist and Chad is a science fiction enthusiast).
For more than two guest we can provide additional sleeping space in the form of a very comfortable queen sized Japanese floor futon.
Feel free to browse and enjoy our extensive board game collection. Play as much as you like (or join us in a game) but please do put the games away in the condition that you found them.
Interaction with Guests
You might get to meet Tommy Dog during your stay, our lovable pony-sized canine. He is old, friendly, and mostly sleeps all day in the basement. He happily accepts cuddles, though he might protest that he doesn't deserve them. We keep a clean house with the help of our Roomba, but those with pet allergies be warned: this is Tommy Dog's house too.
We love having guests in the house. The entire first floor is shared with us and we'd love to have a conversation over coffee in the morning or have you join us for a board game or a movie. At the same time, there is abundant private space. We retreat to our finished basement for alone time and the guests have the second floor practically to themselves (except for our showers in the shared hall bathroom).
The house is great, but it's the neighborhood that brought us to this little corner of Northern Liberties. Our street is quiet, but our neighborhood is exciting. There is something interesting at almost every street corner. We are half a block from Honey's, the most celebrated breakfast spot in Philadelphia. The Random Tea Room and Curiosity Shop is even closer. North 3rd and the Abbeye are both great beer bars and are each a block away. There are restaurants, shops, entertainment spots, parks, playgrounds, and a community center with a free swimming pool (summer months only) all within easy walking distance. The streets are safe and the new construction everywhere is a testament that Northern Liberties is still growing. Some of the homes are marvels.
A short walk to the MFL subway, and, from there, it's a 10 minute subway ride to the Convention Center, 15 minutes to Drexel University & the University of Pennsylvania, and easy to get to the Art Museum, Independence Hall, and Old City. Free parking is relatively easy to find and we have a couple shared spots on site (often, but not always available)
Other Things to Note
We are GLBT and alternative relationship friendly.
Please don't feed the dog (we've got him).
Please do NOT park in the lot next to the house. It looks like it should belong to us, but it doesn't and we have one neighbor in particular who gets a little crazy about protecting the space from interlopers. Call or text when you're arriving and we'll be happy to show you where to park.
Your host's private basement space is relatively sound isolated, but please do be considerate about late night noise if there are guests in the other room. Come and go as you like- we have no curfew. :)
We had a great time at the Space Room! The room was pretty spacious and we appreciated being able to bring our dog along with us.
Chad & Selby were there to greet me when I arrived and showed me what I needed. Otherwise, I was out early and back late so I didn't see them after that. The room was clean and had a nice private bathroom. It has a jacuzzi tub but I didn't have time to use it. Parking was a little tricky. They had two hour parking in front of the house, but I had to circle the block a few times to find parking for longer than that. That's not their fault though. They have a couple of cats, but they were kept out of the room, so that didn't bother me.
We had a nice stay at Chad and Selby's home. The parking was easy, and the house was situated in a good location. Chad responded to my inquiries promptly, and was friendly and helpful with any last minute questions we had upon arrival, as they were out for the weekend so only accessible via phone. It was very easy to get in and out of the home, which we appreciated. We also enjoyed the creative decor in the Space Room. Overall, we had a comfortable stay, but I do feel that there were a few things that would have improved our experience. We aren't used to being around cats, and the litter box smell in the first part of the home was a bit overwhelming. Furthermore, the room and bathroom weren't very clean upon our arrival. We're thankful for Chad and Selby sharing their home with us, and hope to visit Philadelphia again in the near future.
We had a great time staying in the Space Room. We had never stayed in an Airbnb before, and the experience exceeded my expectations. The room was large and it was great to have our own bathroom. The house was nice and cool, which was a relief after walking around in the heat. And the Internet worked perfectly. This was huge, as we were apartment-hunting in preparation for moving to Philly and needed a reliable way to search for places. The house is near many restaurants and coffee shops. If you like tea and/or stuffed grape leaves, definitely visit the Random Tea Room right around the corner.
We had a lovely stay with Chad & Selby! We were only there for a night but they were very welcoming and were very understanding for our bad planning! They are very warm people :-)
The bed was great, ir's very quiet at night and we had our own bathroom with the space room. Wich was very cool decorated by the way!
