Interaction with Guests
The owners are not always present but there will be a person in charge of welcoming our guests and to attend their needs.
Parrita is the closest town, Palo Seco is the closest beach, both Palo Seco and Parrita are about ½ hour away.
On the off road (19 km) to Casa Altamar, at Las Vagas, a village on the way (15 minutes) you will find a Soda (restaurant) and a basic grocery store.
There is an other Village near by but everything is very basic and people close early.
At Parrit you will have more selection.
I recommend to get there by car.

The place is absolutely awesome and the view spectacular. Its located 3 hours away from San José and 30 mins from the beach. The person in charge of checking the house was really friendly and helpful.
I'll definitely go back for more days next time.
The house is really spacious, so we had no troubles with the sleeping accommodations. Also the house is really private and quiet, definitely a great spot.
Villa extraordinaire! Attention à 40 minutes de Parrita mais ça vaut le détour. Superbe vue, confort, équipements, piscine avec vue sur la vallée! Excellent séjour dans cette villa.
The house was simply amazing. From the views to the actual house itself. Yes, you do need an all wheel drive to get there, but it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The views are worth the drive up. The closest city to there is Parrita, which is where you should stock up with groceries. We had a group of 10 and fit comfortably. The house was clean, big and gorgeous.
Our stay at Casa Altamar was short, but definitely sweet! All of our expectations were met. We were there for only one day and could have stayed there many more, if time permitted.
Enrique (who presides over the property when Georg isn't there) was extremely attentive to our needs and went out of his way to help us. He makes this property worthwhile, with his knowledge and helpfulness.
One little piece of advice: a 4-wheel drive is definitely a must in getting to this property, since the majority of the way there is unpaved.
Since we were only at Casa Altamar for a few days there isn't enough advice I could give, but it is a beautiful, spacious place to visit if you are visiting the area of Puntarenas. And the view is definitely breathtaking!
I just want to begin with the pictures do not describe this place! Set in the mountains private waterfalls (plural!!)on property lovely! Marisol and her family became our second family. The layout of the house is magnificent the furniture pieces of art. If coming with a large family the layout is such that each will have their own privacy. We woke up every morning in paradise.
We will try to help with the directions. If coming from Jaco you will turn left at the sign for Las Vegas. Continue until you see the sign for PHP you'll then make a right. Follow the road until you see a sign for Imperial Barr Oso on your left it is a small sign . Here you'll make a right, keep going you'll pass over a few bridges and two beautiful waterfalls before you'll see the sign for Casa Alta Mar on your left. keep going until you see the house. From the Las Vegas sign it may take up to 45 min to get there but keep going have faith lol its worth it .
The pictures do not do this property justice, it was beautiful with spectacular views. The home was fully furnished and there was nothing more to be desired or needed. The road is in pretty good condition but I would advise traveling there during the day. We had to go back out to get more supplies and the closest "pulperia" that had what we needed was about 45 min away so we know next time to be fully stocked. Enjoyed every minute we were there and hope to make it out there soon!
This place was awesome! Very relaxing and quiet. I highly recommend arriving in the daylight as I drove in at night and it can be a bit nerve-racking. The directions provided by Georg were perfect. The house was clean and the groundskeeper although there all the time was out of the way and ready to provide any information you may need at a moments notice.
This house has a TON of space and could easily house several couples. If you are looking to get off the beaten path this definitely does that, just make sure to bring all your food and supplies for sure. It would take at least 30 mins to get to town to visit the market and you won't want to leave too many times during your stay.
About the Host, Georg
I'm from Switzerland and before I came to Costa Rica I used to travel all around the globe.
Now I live in this beautiful country for about 20 years.
On the beginning I was running a hotel with my wife in Manuel Antonio after that we found this lovely place where we built Casa Altamar. We live in San Jose and are always grateful to have a place were we can escape from the stress, pollution and noise of the big city.
