The owners are not always present but there will be a person in charge of welcoming our guests and to attend their needs

The neighborhood

Parrita is the closest town, Palo Seco is the closest beach, both Palo Seco and Parrita are about ½ hour away.
On the off road (19 km) to Casa Altamar, at Las Vagas, a village on the way (15 minutes) you will find a Soda (restaurant) and a basic grocery store.
There is an other Village near by but everything is very basic and people close early.
At Parrit you will have more selection.

Getting around

I recommend to get there by car 4X4.

the house is large and beautiful, with an amazing view of the surrounding mountainside. Georg was prompt with his responses and very thorough with his instructions on how to get to the house. would recommend getting groceries for the evenings and a four wheel drive car- the drive up to the house is no joke!

Casa Altamar is now my favorite place in the world! The only disappointment was having to leave such a beautiful place. The views are spectacular and we woke up to incredible sunrises every morning. Christian made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. It is truly paradise.

No words/pictures can describe this wonderful home. It was more than we expected. We enjoyed the privacy of the home and Christian (the grounds keeper) was great with us, helping us with any questions or concerns. We felt safe at all times. Amazing views and being surrounded by so much nature was exactly what we needed. We will definitely come back. Definitely rent a 4x4 and drive during the day.

Simply breathtaking ♡ What a stunning house up in the mountains. We enjoyed our stay very much and were sad to leave. The house was huge, very clean and gives you a stunning view. Christian welcomed us upon arrival showed us the house and even took us to the waterfalls. The drive up to the house took us about 35 minutes. Like the rest of the guests mentioned - a 4 wheel drive is a must. But the way up there is adventures + great. We would highly recommend this house for anyone who is looking for a great place to stay - close to nature + calm. Yet it's only a 1 hour drive to Manuel Antonio. Thanks for having us We would love coming back one day.

This is a spacious house with an outstanding view of the Pacific coast. If you're looking for rest and relaxation, or a getaway weekend with family and friends, this house will certainly exceed your needs.

An amazing sanctuary in Costa Rica. So peaceful here - as everyone writes, the views alone are worth it. Lots of bird activity each morning which was fun to listen to and watch. The pool was a great escape from the heat each day though in general it stays cooler up here than on the coast because you're high up. Cristian was an amazing asset to have at the property - so welcoming, helpful, and genuinely fun. He bonded with our son (he's 3 years old) as he showed us around to waterfalls, rivers, and other trails. The drive there is definitely bumpy but do-able. We had a mid-size SUV (a Nissan) that was NOT 4x4 (though we requested one...) and it handled the road though if there were more rain I'd worry. You also definitely need/want to stock up on grocery and other goods before getting there. It's about 30 minutes drive down the mountain and it's bumpy. We stopped in Esterillos Oeste at a market once for basic goods and then stopped at other stores when there was a chance. Maxi Pali is in Parrita BUT it's owned by Walmart, so, you know.. that kind of says it all there. Not our preferred place to stop but there in a pinch. This was the perfect place to stay for a quiet escape surrounded by beauty. We had 4 kids with us (we were 2 families traveling) and they all stayed entertained the whole time. Lots to explore and see. We also ventured out to nearby places (Rainmaker, Manuel Antonio, etc.).

Georg User ProfileGeorg is a superhost.

I'm from Switzerland and before I came to Costa Rica I used to travel all around the globe.
Now I live in this beautiful country for about 20 years.
On the beginning I was running a hotel with my wife in Manuel Antonio after that we found this lovely place where we built Casa Altamar. We live in San Jose and are always grateful to have a place were we can escape from the stress, pollution and noise of the big city.
