Casa Quemada is a 2-bedroom refurbished mining ruin - decorated with Vintage & Traditional Mexican Decor and offering the local lifestyle in the Historic Terlingua Ghostown. Both bedrooms have comfortable queen beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, extra pillows and their own a/c & heating split units.

The detached bathroom is about 30 foot steps from the house (somewhat normal for Ghostown stays). We provide large bath sheets (extra-large towels). If you have a robe, consider packing it (not provided). This is generally not an issue for most, but this is a feature that some may not find suitable – make sure everyone in your party understands.

Your private firepit area (The Phoenix Nest) is surrounded by a privacy wall so you can sit back and relax with a cup of coffee or glass of wine after a day exploring the parks; soak in the view of the Chisos Mountains, watch the reverse sunset, beautiful sunrises and enjoy our excellent dark sky from your reclining stargazing chairs.

The kitchen and living space is cozy. The full-kitchen has a stove/oven, full size fridge, microwave, toaster, traditional drip coffee pot, crockpot, dishes, basic cooking necessities and a sink. There is also a gas grill (propane provided) with an outside dining area. Keeping in mind that there are several restaurants within walking distance for a cook-free vacation.

Located a short 3-minute walk to the popular Starlight Theatre Restaurant & Bar, The Trading Company, the best Coffee Shop and the Ghostown Porch. Great place to shop, eat, people watch, catch locals playing music or visit with other guests about their adventures.

There are a few dice and card games provided; and if you enjoy pickleball - there is a community court within walking distance. Bring your own paddles or we have some available upon request.

The Historic Terlingua Ghostown is the gateway to Big Bend and is a short 10 minute drive east to Big Bend Nat'l Park's west entrance for hiking, canoeing, exploring, photography, birding; and a 15 minute drive west to the Big Bend Ranch State Park for the best scenic drive along the river, more hiking, exploring and miles of mountain bike trails.

We have made every effort to comply with the "Dark Sky" initiative and ask that all lights be turned down or turned-off when not in use. The community’s efforts in this manner will keep us one of the darkest skies in the U.S. and provide great stargazing in the recliner chairs in the fire pit area.

NOT SUITABLE FOR TODDLERS (crawling or walking) - Please understand that this property is unique. It does not have the usual amenities of normal households. The bathroom is separate from the home. It's not far, but not recommended for small children especially at night. There is no bathtub. It is not child-proofed - no plugged wall sockets, has open cabinets, etc. There is potential for all sorts of critters that small children don't know to be afraid of (spiders, snakes, coyote, javelina, bobcats, etc). If you insist on reserving our space, you are taking full responsibility for the safety of your children. Also note that the closest hospital is 85 miles away and not well liked by the locals.

NO PETS, PLEASE - There are very few places where you can take a dog/pet once you get to Big Bend. They are not allowed on National Park trails and only allowed in a very limited area in the State Park, so they are often left behind – WHICH IS NOT ALLOWED. 🚫 This is also for their protection - there are coyotes in the area that could be dangerous to dogs/pets and create a safety issue. We lost one to a coyote recently..!! 😢 The closest vet is 85 miles away, closed on weekends and won't open for emergencies. ☝️But most importantly, our housekeeper is allergic and her health is a high priority. We love dogs, but please consider our request before bringing one to Big Bend. In

Guest access
