Lovely in house room in design apartment ‘Amsterdam School’ style. 5-minutes from Muiderpoort Station, located in a vibrant neighborhood full of local gems.
A small room of approx.15m2. As it's inside my home you will be living with me so note that I don't have a separate entrance. So we are real roomies for the time span you are over. Having said that I am low maintenance ;-) and I mostly have a busy schedule so you won't see me all the time.
The whole apartment is 93m2 of comfort and homeliness. 2 cats to keep you company. With a balcony (with fresh herbs in summer only) which you can enjoy if the Dutch weather permits. A beamer to plug in your Mac so you have an in house cinema. A fully equipped kitchen where you can chop and cook up all the local and exotic produce you find on the Dappermarkt (open 6 days a week). A comfy bed and some English books if you don't feel like going out.
You can access everything that isn't locked. All the standard stuff in the kitchen like coffee, tea and basic amenities are available. I provide a very basic breakfast which you can grab yourself and if you're lucky I'll surprise with extra's but basically I have coffee, tea, granola, soyamilk, fruit and juice.
If you can't be bothered eating out everyday I can cook dinner and you can eat along at a reasonable charge.
As I said you would really be living with me and we will share kitchen, bathroom and the living room together. The space is big enough to relax and get some privacy if you want and I am seriously easygoing. But mind there is no separate entrance.
The neighborhood..Ohh.. where to start, there are so much nice things to do, all which I can share with you while you're here just to meet your specific preferences. But here's some more general info on my hood:
Amsterdam East has a particular funky charm, in the recent years it has undergone a lot of restructuring and urban rejuvenation to rid the wild west stories and safety. Not to worry at all, Amsterdam East is now one of the most upcoming happening neighborhoods where more and more locals would like to live. And it is absolutely safe during the day and at night, at least when you do not hang yourself with all the riches you possess, but that I would not recommend that in any big city.
A lot of original buildings have unfortunately been demolished and replaced with horrendous social houses but not all of them. I'm lucky to have obtained one of the Amsterdam school type architectural buildings, which you can still see in the neighborhood.
We are also in close vicinity of some great parks like the Oosterpark, Flevopark (with a great little gin and liquor distillery) and Diemerpark and some city beaches. Also close to some great rural countryside and green zones surrounding Amsterdam. You can go running, cycling canoeing, swimming, waterskiing and sailing just five minutes from my house. The countryside has a few nice farms where you can buy vegetables, cheese and other produce and a farmers market is close by.
East is getting more and more funky an vibrant and is known for the daily Dappermarket, Studio K, Tropenmuseum, the Artis zoo and the Hortus Botanicus but also the Stay Okay hostel and Campside Zeeburg are located here.
East is a multicultural part of town (just like the West side) with a good mix of Chinese, Surinamese, Moroccans, Turkish and Dutch people which is reflecting in loads of shops, bakeries and eateries. Besides that the cultural minded and young students have discovered East and happening places such as clubs, coffee bars and cafe's are fast spreading.
Having said all of this, It's only 10 minutes away from the city center and well connected with public transport. I would recommend everyone to discover the versatility and genuine feeling of East while discovering the big tourist hubs of Amsterdam.
Public Transport: Muiderpoort station only a 5 minute walk. Tram 7,14 and bus 22, will connect you with the center in a short 10 minutes.
As I already pointed out, there are two cats who are part of the deal, so you must like cats. So if you are allergic it is a major bummer but there's nothing I can do unfortunately
(For mild allergies, I always have Allerfree for guests, but it's your own guess whether that will work for you)
There are a few house rules
- No smoking inside- smoking can be done on the balcony
- No Drugs - I know that for some Amsterdam
can be quite alluring and I don't want to get in the way of
your 'enlightenment' as I am openminded but I sure do not
want to be responsible for your mental health in any case.
So if you feel like doing anything that's fine by me, just
come home in a normal state of mind.
- No parties in my house- there's is plenty of places to
party in Amsterdam
- No third party guests- for security and insurance reasons:
do not bring third party guests in my home.
- If you break something, tell me honestly, we will work
Chee was such an amazing host, and her house was beautiful! She was very flexible in terms of checkin/out times, and had a wealth of knowledge about things to do in Amsterdam. The apartment was a short tram ride to the city centre, and she made a travel-card available for use once I'd arrived. It was all super clean and the two cats were lovely. Chee herself was so welcoming, super friendly, and really made me feel at home. I'd absolutely stay again!!! Thanks so much, Chee!
When I stayed at Cheener's she had to work a lot, so we didn't see each other that much. She was so nice to leave me the key to her appartment at the hotel I stayed before for work. So on arriving in the appartment I was only greeted by her two cats. But the appartment is very nice and self explaining and for the rest me and Cheener communicated with little notices until we finally met on the second day.
I had a great stay and slept very well as the appartment is really quiet. And I could borrow Cheener 's museum card, which was great too.
I recommend to stay at Cheener 's!
Cheener was amazing and the apartment was beautiful!
The place was immaculately clean and well kept. It's rather large (especially for NL standards) and well-designed; she definitely has a good sense of style. And all of the things I needed - dishware, appliances, food, etc - were immediately accessible and she definitely made an effort to make it feel like a home away from home.
And she was no nice and so accommodating! She had taken extra care to make sure that the room and apartment had everything I needed (including towels, sleeping masks, lint rollers, you name it). She always offered to make me breakfast, and she even carried my extremely large and heavy bag up the stairs, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
The place is sort of the best of both worlds. It a tiny bit out of the center, which means it's quiet and peaceful and the stores aren't expensive. But, the city is immediately accessible, the center being less than 15 minutes by bike, and the 7, 14, and 22 trams (all which stop right outside the building) will get you there in about the same time.
My only regret is that I didn't get to chat with her more while I was there, as we had a lot in common and she was super easy to talk to. I would definitely stay there again!
I had an amazing time staying at Cheener's apartment, she was friendly and helped me out with directions and everything, the place is one stop away from Amsterdam Central and is only 10 to 15 euros for those party animals that might need to take a taxi back after a long night out.
Had a great stay with Cheener. She was super helpful and went out of her way to ensure I got the most out of my stay. Thanks Cheener.
Chee was a very friendly host, well decorated and cosy apartments, i have really enjoyed staying there. Strongly recommended!
I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Cheener in person, but her place is lovely and she gives attention to small details to ensure you’re comfortable and welcome: literature on the city, earplugs by your bed (you won’t need them, it’s very quiet), a lint brush for any pet hair you pick up – Everything feels thought through.
Cheener’s Boyfriend Joe was there to welcome me. A wonderful host who makes a good cup of coffee. I enjoyed our chats.
A point about the neighbourhood: If you’re not familiar with Amsterdam, you might mistakenly think this neihbourhood is too far out of the way, when in actual fact the Javaplein area is one of Amsterdam’s most authentic city neighbourhoods. I’m quite familiar with the area, and I make a point of finding accommodation in Amsterdam-Oost for my regular visits to the city. If you’re new to Amsterdam, take a chance and explore this area.
Joe and Cheener, Thanks for a great stay!

Hi I am Chee but better known as Cheener for friends. I'm 37 years old with the ambition to never grow up. I said to someone once (to the question why I leave 'relatively' strangers sleep and live in my house) that I love it that if you aren't able to travel, at least through new social media opportunities such as Home Exchange, Airbnb and providing couches to surf on, you are welcoming the world to your house. And I really like this thought! I love traveling and I also have been home exchanging and surfing for quite some years already, befriended a lot of great people, seen great houses and lifestyles. Basically I enjoy the trust, hospitality and to actually feel at 'home' in another place.
So if you treat my home as it would be your own, you're most welcome. And if you are nice to my cats, I'm nice to you :).
I'm not only in it for the money but mostly for memorable experiences and encounters. The profits of my Air BnB rentals goes to traveling the world and enables me to do more voluntary work.
Besides that I am redecorating a small little vacation house just 10 minutes from my house where I intend to grow my own vegetable, fruits and brew my own gin :) So when there is produce I am happy to share it with you guys.
I know Amsterdam pretty darn well and would recommend things that locals do and go to. Also I am totally in love with my own hood! Having said that of course I know my way through touristy Amsterdam. I am flexible, hospitable, know how to solve a problem or a challenge if you have one and I am great at cooking up all sorts of itineraries and if you are lucky and it's a good timing, I can also literally cook pretty well.
I work in the creative industry, a cultural omnivore who hops from creative agencies, to museums and music festivals. Just search engine Cheener and you'll find out more about me.
Looking forward to meet you.
