The picturesque village of Barnwell is nicely situated being close to the historic town of Oundle and within easy travel to the cities of Peterborough, Northampton, Corby, and Cambridge. The nearest train stations are in Peterborough, Kettering and in Huntingdon. Buses can be taken from there to Oundle and then there is a four mile taxi journey from there, or pickup can be arranged on request for a small fee.

Our local public house has a restaurant at the rear and along with many other establishments in the local villages offer good food and a friendly atmosphere. For the connoisseur of fine foods the Talbot hotel and Oundle Mill offers a good dining experience.

Barnwell is very pretty and known for its links to the royal family as Barnwell Castle is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The Village has its own shop, public house, church and stream that runs through the center of the village There are bridleways and walking tracks woven into Barnwell and throughout the local area.

Barnwell Country Park is a beautiful and tranquil place to visit offering kayak hire for a trip down the river or an enjoyable and tranquil cycle ride through down the country roads and tracks, both Kayaks and bicycles are available to hire from Trek Kits in Oundle.

Burghley House is just a 20 minute car journey away, the historic house is open to the public during the spring and summer months. The annual horse trials are held there in September.

Rutland Water is also a lovely place to visit for walkers or cyclists or anyone wanting to experience the water sports offered there.

Water sport enthusiasts are spoiled for choice in this area as there is also Tallington lakes and Ferry Meadows (Peterborough) where you can hire sailing dinghies and wind surfers. Ferry meadows has an old fashioned steam train that is operating during the spring and summer for those who wish to take a nostalgic step back in time. Horse riding is available from a riding establishment close to Ferry meadows.
Elton Hall is 10 minutes car journey from Barnwell, they host music festivals and events throughout the year. We are also close to the music festival held at Abbots Ripton in July each year called the Secret Garden Party.

All in all the area hosts a huge variety of events and facilities for the outgoing visitor, alternatively those who wish to just relax and take a saunter through a beautiful and ancient village will be able to enjoy a stay here in Barnwell.
We hope to see you soon!

Guest access

The apartment is self contained however in the summer guests can enjoy the garden, sit under the weeping cherry tree in the shade or out in the sunshine on the wicker twin seat at the front of our gated property which is very private.

Interaction with guests

We have an easy approach to interaction with guests, everyone is different some people like to be private some like to have an involvement with us. We have had guests where we see them very little and others who have had dinner with us or drinks in the garden we are basically guided by what our guests want out of their stay and of course what our daily lives dictate.

The neighborhood

Barnwell is a historic, quaint and stunningly beautiful village, set in the Nothamptonshire countryside of rolling hills. We have a stream that runs through the village that enhances the relaxing feel to it. The surrounding area has multiple villages of similar size and beauty all situated within easy reach of the local town of Oundle. Visit the Talbot hotel with the famous staircase that Mary queen of scots walked down and Fotheringhay Castle where she was beheaded to name just a couple of interesting points.

Getting around

It is more convenient for guests if they have their own transport however we have hosted guests who have not come with a car and we have run them into Oundle so that they can catch the bus or taken them to restaurants in the evening, we are here to please and try to help wherever we can.

Other things to note

We do have two dogs at our home who are friendly so we prefer animal lovers but for those who do not want to be around dogs we will keep them out of your way.
There is an electric gate for entry to the property so it is very secure however you are able to get in and out as you are handed a gate key for easy use until you leave the property. We have BT infinity super fast broadband installed and now have over come the previous issue we have had with the signal by having a booster put via the electricity system into the accommodation so there is now full signal within the accommodation. There is seating facility outside next to our office in nice weather if you choose to sit outside weather permitting with your device.
Washing of clothes can be done by the hosts if requested for a fee for anyone staying long enough who has the need. The property is listed as sleeps two but we have now a put you up bed for people with a child up to teenager has stayed and slept in it perfectly ok.

Sandra made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. As did her sweet dog, Sabre. The studio was equipped with more things than I have at home which was fantastic. Everything from a hair dryer to baking equipment. There's isn't anything Sandra hasn't thought of and more. I couldn't have expected the lovely things she had in her studio. It definitely had that home from home feel. The location is lovely for that getting out the city feel. The accommodation is secure and very private but Sandra was always on hand to assist with anything. I'd insist on packing light as there's not much you could want for. Such a cosy space perfect for a couple or small family. Plenty of space for one. Comfortable bed. Lots of toiletries and even curling tongs! Honestly blown away by all the extras included. It was a great week and would definitely recommend it to everyone. Definite value for money. Thanks for a wonderful week Sandra :)

This is really comfortable apartment in a lovely quiet village location. It's well-equipped and has everything that you need. Sandra was super-helpful in every way. I just needed a crash pad whilst working nights nearby for a few days, but this would be great place to stay if you are visiting the area. Very happy to recommend this place!
