  • Staying in Anna-Maria's place was really a mixed bag. The house is absolutely beautiful, or was, when it was built. It is peaceful and lovely. The two stars are for that alone. The experience of staying in the house was incredibly frustrating.

    Issues:
-The house is very poorly cleaned and maintained. On arrival my room was musty and there were cobwebs and spiders all over the place. The bed unmade and the bathroom was a disaster: Soap scum all over the sink, dirt, hair clogs and hard water stains all over the bathtub. The kitchen was disgusting: food scraps in the drain, filthy refrigerator, etc. It's never good when one's first reaction to a place is to wonder where the cleaning supplies are!
-There were constant problems: The water tank would run dry daily, the internet worked on and off, very slowly, for a total of 2.25 days during my entire two-week stay and the host (who was in India and at times very difficult to reach) blamed (website hidden) or downloads for running out the allotted data package very quickly - this was not the case as myself and the other two guest in the house didn't use (website hidden) or download anything but email.
-For the price being charged (which is VERY high) there would be a house caretaker and daily cleaning service anywhere else on Bali.
As I mentioned attempts to contact the host were sometimes not answered for two or three days and there was absolutely no one to contact locally for problems with the house who would take charge.
There was a girl who "cleaned" twice per week, Wayan, who maintained the floors and not much else. Just before I left the house the pool cleaner, Arik was hired to do additional cleaning. But the main problem here is that there is no one on hand to take responsibility for the place and the entire thing is completely mismanaged (rather not managed at all) and Anna-Maria's attitude toward problems is quite flippant, blaming the locals for their lack of responsiveness instead of assuming responsibility for her listing.

-The driver Anna-Maria suggests will charge you an arm and a leg for his services. Far beyond the normal rates. He offers scooter rentals for 60,000 Rupiah (about $5 per day), which may not seem like much, but comparatively you can rent a scooter in Ubud center for around 500,000k PER MONTH.

Also, the house is quite far from Ubud center, around a 15-minute scooter drive through very steep and often uneven terrain (bad roads). It would take at least an hour to walk into Ubud. You will need a scooter if you stay here.
