If you want a quiet, uninterrupted stay we will show you around apartment and leave you to it, however our door is always open and am more than happy to share local knowledge, directions, etc.
Clonakilty is a vibrant small coastal town with a long standing music tradition. There is live music in most pubs throughout the Summer, and in 3/4 regular venues during the Winter months. There's a great farmer's market every Fri. with delicious local produce, buskers and great coffee !
There are regular buses from Cork city, these travel through Clon. and continue further West to Skibereen, Schull and Golleen. There is guest parking on site. From Cork airport drive West, through Bandon to Clonakilty. Drive to town centre, at Astna Square head right up McCurtain Hill. Continue up this hill, you will pass the Garda station on your right, carry on up hill until you see a sign on the left for Kilty Cycle Repairs , just after this on the left you will see a row of cottages we are the first one on the left, painted cream with red doors and windows. Our driveway is steep.
pets allowed, mutual respect a good policy I think.
My wife and I stayed at Brigid and Tom's apartment for two nights at the end of May, and we couldn't have been more pleased - we wished it could have been longer ! We didn't have the opportunity to meet Brigid in person as she was away attending an artists' class - but, we did speak with her via mobile and spend quite a bit of time with Tom. We had the most fantastic conversations with Tom upon our arrival and again our last evening in Clonakilty across a wide spectrum of topics. My wife, Christine, is an guitar player, and Tom is an internationally accomplished guitar and banjo virtuoso ! Our last night Tom invited Chris and I to attend his performance in the renowned Tigh DeBarra’s Folk Club in Clonakilty - he reserved a place at the musician's table for us; put on a 2.5 hour concert performance with 5 other Irish musicians; and had Chris perform one of her songs with them (lending her his guitar) - a most wonderful highlight of Chris' trip to Ireland ! Tom is the most wonderful host explaining all the ins and outs of area - charming, gregarious, funny, attentive - Brigid is a very lucky person ! Tom is quite proud of the area outlining all of the must see sites to visit during our stay; and was available for any question that we had. Christine and I loved the cottage setting and it was wonderful to wake up to the peaceful and serene environment. The setting surpassed all of what we imagined an Irish cottage experience could be. The cottage met all of our expectations and was clean, quiet, and quite comfortable. We highly recommend it for those wanting close proximity to Clonakilty and the surrounding environs. I urge all who are visiting Clonakilty to stay at Tom and Brigid's cottage - you most suredly won't be disappointed. Thank you, Tom and Brigid, for all of your wonderful hospitality !
Tom made us very welcome and was helpful and kind
The cottage is lovely and cozy, set in a beautiful garden at the back of Brigid's house. She left us with bread, butter, cheese, milk, eggs and fruit which was really kind and helped a great deal. Brigid was very responsive to our questions before the stay, and her son and husband helped us out with what we needed while we were there. The cottage is a 10 minute walk downhill to Clonakilty so close enough to town but also nice and secluded.
Thanks for a nice visit to Clonakilty Brigid. The apartment had everything I needed and was close enough to walk to the town.
The cottage is nicely set up and is a nice spot to discover the area from. The kitchen is well equipped and the heating very efficient. But it could have done with being aired a bit before our arrival as there was a lingering smell of dampness all through our stay. Tom was very nice and came to our rescue when we had problems with the shower and fixed it right away. Overall we had a lovely time there.
Brigid and her husband were very friendly and helpful. The cottage itself is a great little spot, a quiet place with all the necessary amenities for shorter and longer stays and ideal for exploring Clonakilty and the surrounding areas.
