Ideal location, neighborhood is best in Kelowna, trending from small war homes to townhomes and boutiques.
Kelowna in the summer is a playground for golf fanatics, beach lovers, downhill and cross country mountain bikers (check website for Mountain Bike Central Okanagan), road biking (bike trails everywhere!), easy to difficult hiking and rock climbing, casual nature and lakeside or Mission Creek Greenway walks, and roller blading on the recreational pathway . Kelowna's #1 voted yoga studio is just behind my house (Moksha). Public tennis courts 3 blocks away, bird sanctuary 4 blocks. And don't forget the winery tours -- this is Napa Valley in the North!
Downtown you can rent ski boats, jet skiis, paddle boards, kayaks. Sports Rent is one block from my house for bikes, roller blades, etc.
5 minute drive from windsurfing and kite surfing beach. family beaches, "body" beaches, and 2 minute walk to small neighborhood beach -- beautiful sandy shallow weed free swimming. Rent my kayak and walk it to lake on wheels - you're paddling within 10 minutes. 30 minute drive to small boat club for rowing/sculling and sailing lessons.
In the winter, skiiers and snowboarders couldn't be happier. Virtually guaranteed fresh powder every few days. Affordable ski rental 2 blocks from my house. 1 hour to Big White Ski Resort (or 2 blocks to shuttle bus!) and Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Club (McCullogh), 30 minutes to Telemark Cross Country and snowshoe trails or Crystal Mtn 'junior' ski hill, 70 minutes to Sovereign Lake Cross Country (national training centre) and Silver Star Ski Resort, 90 minutes to Apex Mountain. Yes, that's 4 ski mountains within 30-90 minute drive.
Skate on downtown's public free outdoor skating rink, or check out a Kelowna Rockets hockey game, where NHL players Shea Webber, Josh Gorges, Luke Schenn and more got their start as teenagers.
Restaurants with 1-3 blocks: Zabb Thai, Chutneys Indian, Misu sushi, Original Joe's, Mission TapHouse, and of course Subway! Within 3-6 km: RauDz (deluxe!), The Keg, Earl's On Top, Bichon, Eldorado, Cabana, and for the best breakfast in town The Bohemian Bagel Cafe. Or save money with groceries: Lakeview Market (2 blocks), Urban Fare (3 blocks) or Save On Foods (4 blocks). Coffe shops: Good Earth (1 block), Marmalade Cat Cafe (2 blocks), Blenz (2 blocks), Starbucks (3 blocks).
Knit/crochet? Best yarn shop in I think all of the northwest is 1 block away.
Weather - in July/August you'll be thankful I have air conditioning. We are the only semi-arid desert area in Canada, with temps around 30-38 celsius (80-100 F). In the winter you can tolerate my 22 celsius gas heated house, or boost the heat with your personal electric floor boards. Temps outside are typically -5 to 10 Celsius, but have been known to hover around -10 or dip to -30 for days to satisfy the ice wine gods. I knit so I have extra toques (hats) and scarves if you need them!
Haved I missed anything??!! Ask me.
Private entrance with house key via relaxing, treed, backyard garden. Deck, patio & comfy deck chairs right outside your door. Adjoining laundry room (washer/dryer is shared with me) has mini fridge with tiny freezer, toaster oven, kettle, microwave, electric skillet, hot plate, & some dishes for your use (I don't provide breakfast). Those staying for a week or more can have occasional access to my full kitchen.
$25 cleaning fee waived for stays of at least 3 nights. I don't clean during your stay, but have spare bed sheets if you need a fresh set.
Must tolerate my two cats, but we can close the door so they don't go in your room if you prefer.
Interaction with Guests
I work full time, and prefer my privacy, but I'm very friendly and happy to check in with guests a couple times a day to make sure everything is going well.
I've personalized a number of maps for my guests showing bike routes, beaches, restaurants, shopping, and suggested driving/winery route.
I prefer independent guests but am always excited to introduce people to my favourite spots, and so are my neighbors! I've lived here 25 years and done it all (almost!): road bike, mtn bike, hike, backpack, snowboard, cross country ski, roller blade, and kayak. And knitting! If you golf, I've got friends who can give you inside information!
Up and coming neighborhood with lots of small shops and grocery stores. Mostly small older homes but new high end condo beside my newly renovated war-era bungalow. Dog park behind house. Yoga studio and quiet small beach 1 block away. Excellent mountain biking trails nearby (Knox Mtn, Myra Bellevue, Smith Creek, Wildhorse Canyon). 30 minute drive to famous Kettle Valley Railbed (Myra Canyon Trestles) with stunning views including the regrowth from the 2003 firestorm. 30-70 minute drive to your choice of 3 cross country and 3 downhill ski areas (McCullogh Nordic, Telemark, Sovereign Lake; Silver Star, Big White, and Crystal Mtn respectively). 1 km to Hospital in case skiing doesn't go so well! Wineries everywhere!
2 blocks to bus and groceries. 10-20 minute bike ride on flat road to downtown, to large mall, or to Farmers Market (Wed and Sat). Free parking on street with guest pass.
Other Things to Note
Willing to discuss accomodating pets, but my cats take priority :)
Parking on street (there's always a spot).
Non-smoking in house and property. (Nice quiet park just outside my gate if you want to smoke there but please shower before sleeping to keep bed/pillows fresh for future guests.)
Quiet between midnight and 7 a.m.
Prefer shoes off in house but soft soled clean shoes acceptable.
If I'm in backyard please respect my privacy, otherwise enjoy the yard.
I'll check in twice a day initially to make sure all is well and give tips on bus, wineries, beaches, ski hills, etc, otherwise you're on your own.
Cathy is a fantastic host. The suite is great. The neighbourhood couldn't be better - 1/2 a block from the lake, lots of good restaurants and boutiques.
I really enjoyed myself. The suite was cosy and in a great neighbourhood. Cathy was friendly and well organized. There were lots of places to eat in the near area.
Location was near a lot of restaurants and close to the beach. Cathy was pleasant and helpful and the room was clean and just what we needed. Would stay there again!
The room was very comfortable and less than 10 minutes from the hotel where the conference was. Lovely little neighbourhood and Cathy's recommendations were spot on regarding what to see and do in Kelowna. We absolutely loved the Nut Farm and the Goat Cheese Farm. Sadly, didn't get a chance to check out the yarn shop. Next time! We really appreciated the map with highlighted directions to all the interesting shops & wineries.
Cathy was an amazing host. She was pleasant & accommodating. The suite was very comfortable & had everything we needed for a weeks stay. Her backyard was a nice oasis & we enjoyed relaxing when we had the chance. Lots of shopping was a short walk down the street. We did a lot of walking & the beach was not far at all. We would highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to Kelowna! Thanks a bunch Cathy, you are a great hostess & we will be back some day!
If we had more time, we would have loved to have stayed longer at Cathy's place. On our arrival, we received a warm welcome, along with an unexpected surprise in the fridge. Beach towels and toiletries were provided, as well as a well equipped mini-kitchen and laundry facilities. We appreciated the separate entrance and bathroom, and the beautiful garden backing onto a park. There was plenty of literature provided with things to do and see. The location was ideal, being just one block away from the beach and half a block from a wide variety of dining venues and shopping choices. Cathy was very helpful and a great host. We would stay here again!
Wonderful Place! My Partner and I could not of asked for more. Clean, Quiet, walking distance from both Lake and Stores. Perfect!
About the Host, Cathy
I love living in the sunny Okanagan. We get all 4 seasons here, and I live right by the lake, surrounded by mountains. I mountain bike, kayak on the lake, cross country ski, and used to snowboard. I'm a rabid knitter at this point in my life.
