Welcome to "Cabin on Swede Hill". Our family has farmed this land since 1871. My great grandparents, Swan and Johanna Johnson immigrated to America in the 1860's, found this land which was similar to Sweden. They raised their family here. Approximately 65 Swedish families settled in this community, became to be know as the "Swede Hills". We just received the Hoosier Homestead Award from Indiana celebrating the Sesquicentennial Award. We invite you to come...... and experience country life.

we are 11 miles from Lake Michigan. South Shore train station ( in Michigan City) is also 11 miles away, to catch a ride to Chicago and or South Bend.
Our country side roads are routes for the cyclist that pass by the cabin.

We do allow a one night stay if the calendar allows...please ask us if you are in need of one night stay only.

My work: This is a working farm, raising corn, soybeans , hay and timber.

Welcome to "Cabin on Swede Hill." Our family has farmed this land since 1871. My great grandfather, Swan Johnson immigrated to America in the 1860's, working on the railroad (same railroad that is on the south end of the farm).and found this farm and felt it was similar to that of his home country, Sweden. He purchased the land. He then married Johanna Swenson and they, together raised their family here . Approximately 65 Swedish families settled in this area and the community became to be known as the Swedish Hills. Because the farm has been in the same family lineage, we just received the Hoosier Homestead Award from Indiana celebrating our sesquicentennial anniversary. The farm has a unique heritage and geography being so close to Lake Michigan, Indiana Dunes and the largest apple orchard in Indiana, Garwood Orchard. We invite you to come and share the unique area in Northwest Indiana.
