About this listing
Two comfortable rooms in one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn. We're a stone's throw from tons of great restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, a short walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park or Prospect Park, and just 3 subway stops from Manhattan.
It's a big 3 bedroom flat with hardwood floors, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, a washer and dryer (unheard of in NYC!), wireless internet, thermostat-controlled heating, AC in every room, and an outdoor terrace off of the living room.
Both bedrooms are furnished with a full bed, a dresser and a large closet (with clean linens provided). A bathroom is just across the hall.
We're right on the border of Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill and the neighborhood is amazing—you get all the perks of being in the city while also having a quiet, relaxing home base. We're walking distance to gorgeous parks, coffee shops, movie theaters, boutiques and all kinds of fantastic things to eat and drink: new American, ramen, Vietnamese, sushi, Mediterranean, brunch, Italian, bakeries, ice cream parlors, great cocktails, craft beer bars, and the best Thai in New York—check out my guidebook for more! The area is famous for tree-lined streets and picturesque brownstones.
The Bergen F/G stop is a block away, and it's just 10 minutes into Manhattan, 20 minutes to the East Village/Soho/Union Square and 20 minutes to Williamsburg. We're also a short walk to the 2/3/A/C/R. Street parking is pretty easy if you have a car, and the area is great for biking (there are Citibike stations as well as shops where you can rent nearby).
Other Things to Note
I've been in this neighborhood for 4 years and couldn't be happier. I'm an editor at a local "things to do" magazine (and I bring home the new issue each week), so I can give you plenty of recommendations for restaurants, shows, museum exhibits, festivals and outdoor activities all over the city. The other roommate and I will both be out of the house often, but I'll be here to help you get settled and I'm always available by phone, text or email. Looking forward to hosting you!
Make yourself at home! Feel free to use any of the kitchenware, the dishwasher and washer/dryer. We just ask that you do the following:
• Clean up after yourself if you use the kitchen.
• Don't throw recyclables in the trash (we have a bin).
• Remove your shoes at the door if it's snowy or raining outside.
• Please don't set the AC below 68 degrees (and remember to turn it off when you leave). There is also a fan setting that works great on cooler nights.
I spent a month in Carolyn's place.
Carolyn and her sister are nice hosts, actually very reserved. Sometimes I had the feeling I had the entire apartment all for myself as they spend most of their time either out or in their private rooms. Nevertheless, she has been always reachable and available for any need and communication. The apartment itself is very very nice, the location is very convenient and the neighborhood extremely nice. The room was exactly as expected and the private bathroom is a very nice plus (not connected to the room). Carolyn was also extremely available and let my wife stay with me in the apartment for a few days at no additional cost.
Only small issue: the apartment itself could have used some overall dusting (when I arrived the bathroom, while the toilet and sink were clean, had the floor and rug quite not as clean. Same with the room). Other than these small issues, the overall experience has been definitely positive and I feel comfortable recommending their place to anybody interested in staying in one of the nicest neighborhood in Brooklyn.
I had a great stay at Carolyn's place! The apartment is extraordinarily well-located, just around the corner from the subway, a MET food store, a bagel place, a coffee shop, and just about every bar and restaurant in Carroll Gardens you'd ever need to visit. As for the apartment itself, the living room area is very spacious and gets lots of sunlight; it also has a small balcony. The kitchen looked nice, though I didn't have the chance to use it. The bedroom is rather large, with a comfortable bed and a plenty-big closet. And the private bathroom just down the hall was perfect.
Unfortunately my schedule during my visit was hectic, and I only got to meet Carolyn for a minute. However, she was flexible with check-in and check-out times, and made sure during my stay, via text messages, that I had everything I needed.
I love this neighborhood and enjoyed the apartment, so I would definitely stay here again.
Carolyn was super accommodating and the space is great. I wasn't around a whole lot, but the location is great with easy access to the subway and good coffee and restaurants withing super easy walking distance. The room was clean and comfy, everything you need in a place to stay in Brooklyn.
The space was exactly as advertised, and the location is great! Thanks so much.
Great neighbourhood - more places to eat and drink than you can shake a stick at. Large room with loads of space for my stuff, a clean bathroom all to myself, and super close to the subway.
Back catalogue of The New Yorker also very welcome.
only complaint would be that the room was a little cold, but then, the weather has been ridiculous.
I had a great weekend visiting in NYC, and staying at Carolyn's helped make that possible. The apartment is quiet, clean, and comfortable, and the neighborhood has so much to offer. I would stay here again.
Great place to stay, very close to Manhattan by the F train, the Station was not far away. Carolyn is a great person, very friendly and kind, she will help you and anything you need. The area was perfect as well as you can find very good places to eat or have a drink, and is quite safe too!! Definitively we recommend the place and Carolyn as a good host!!
