About this listing
Bella Notte is an old Tudor Mansion in North Avondale about four blocks from Xavier University. The home has two central air conditioning units and four of the seven bedrooms are available for rent. Each bedroom has a private bath, but two of the bedrooms (the Blue room and the Gold room) can share an adjoining bath to become a 2BR suite for convenient family use.
The fifth bedroom is used as an exercise room featuring a computerized recumbent bike with a display of simulated bike trails as well as a small HD monitor for viewing DIRECTV while working out with the free weights or on the mat.
Bedrooms six and seven are occupied by the owner and used as an office.
Since Air BnB requires separate listings for each room I have four listings, one for each available room. Be sure to check all four calenders for availability. For your convenience all rooms are pictured in all four listings to aid in your decision.
All rooms have individually keyed privacy locks for your security and a wireless network gets you on the internet. Every room has a desk that will accommodate a laptop. Televisions are not supplied in the rooms but DIRECTV and Netflix may be watched in the den, and DVDs are available on loan from an extensive collection that you may take to your room and watch on your laptop. Three of the rooms have a shower in the bathroom, two have a tub as well. One room has no shower but features a jacuzzi. Also there is a separate bath off the exercise room and another on the first floor close to all the dining areas for your convenience.
This listing is for the Blue Room which has a private bath with a shower/tub combination. The bathtub is a large "soaking" tub. The room is very spacious and features a desk and bureau not pictured in the photos. Also it has a large walk in closet and a full length door mirror.
Some rooms feature a CD player or an iPod player to listen to music. The entire house and patio is a non-smoking area. We do not accept pets or small children at this time, but future plans include changes to make Bella Notte a child friendly environment. We have a gentle cat in the house, so if you are allergic to cats, this is not the place for you. Three rooms feature Queen size beds and one, the Gold room, is a full.
There is a 24/7 coffee station and a mini-fridge centrally located on the 2nd floor available to all the rooms. The mini-fridge is stocked with complimentary, cold bottled water and the single serve coffee station, also complimentary, features regular, decaf, espresso and flavored coffees.
There are four areas where breakfast can be served, The dining room seats ten. The sunny breakfast nook seats four. The solarium seats six and the patio seats four.
The house boasts very large rooms and has multiple dens. The "man cave" features a billiard table, poker table and a backgammon table. Additional dens are a TV room on the first floor, the solarium and a music room on the third floor.
Our kitchen is large and the menu features over three dozen exciting offerings for breakfast. Each morning will feature one egg-based breakfast, one grains-based breakfast and one fruit-based breakfast as well as juices, teas and coffees including espressos, lattes and cappucinos. Our goal is to provide you a healthy and creative start to each day. We will make every effort to accommodate your special requirements, such as food allergies or simply just likes and dislikes.
Street parking is abundant in a safe neighborhood where residents walk their dogs and jog at all hours. Off street parking can accommodate up to four cars. Downtown is about 5 miles away and UC is even closer. The bus stops with frequency a scant block away. Many fine restaurants exist in the Hyde Park area, which is about 2 miles from our location as well as a few in Norwood and in St. Bernard, both just a little over a mile. The best mall shopping is in Kenwood, about six miles away but Hyde Park boasts many fine shops and malls as well. We are centrally located with easy access to both I71 and I75 as well as 562 known locally as the Norwood Lateral. There are several easy to follow surface roads that lead to the main areas of the city and downtown as well, that can get you there without any traffic, any time of day or night in just minutes. The airport, which is in Kentucky is about 30 miles away but if you want to get a better airfare you can fly into Dayton, a 50 minute drive.
Special arrangements can be made for long term guests who wish to have all their meals served here at Bella Notte.
Park out front and come on up through the front door. On arrival guests can download an app that works with their smartphones to have continued access with a passcode to the front door.
Interaction with Guests
Encouraged but not required.
This is a quite neighborhood with older homes and established families. It is an extremely safe neighborhood and is commonly walked by neighbors in early morning and late into the evening and after dark.
Public transportation on a main route is only a block away. We are centrally located between the two main highways and a mile from the connecting lateral, 2 miles from Hyde Park, 3 from UC and 5 from downtown.

Beautiful home, Great breakfast and coffee. Micheal is very accommodating.
Michael warmly welcomed us into his exquisite home in the heart of a beautiful Cincinnati neighborhood. The Blue Room was accurately listed and represented with authentic 1920's fixtures and appointments including beautiful hardwood floors, woodwork and custom panel doors. Michael shared his love of music and production with us by providing a tour of his music studio. Incredible! We highly recommend the Bella Notte!
Michael's home is in a fabulous, upscale neighborhood. Our host made us feel at home the moment we entered. The Blue Room was large, clean and very comfortable with its own bath. We really enjoyed our breakfasts and getting to know Michael. Bella Notte will be our place to stay when we return to Cincinnati.
Michael was a gracious host. I felt as though I arrived as a guest and left as a friend. For my first experience with AirBnB, it was stellar.
The room was very nice. It was well lit, clean and comfy. We had the opportunity to peek in his other rooms and they looked great as well. The outdoor patios are an unexpected treat. The house was quiet at night, even at full occupancy.
The most amazing part of the stay was the delicious breakfast. We stayed for over a week and every breakfast was amazing and different. Not only was it delicious, but it was visually a work of art.
The street parking was right in front of the house on a quiet street. The Mansion is located 10 minutes from about everywhere in Cincinnati. The host is an incredible guide. Michael had excellent dining suggestions for experiencing the real Cincinnati. He also had great ideas for neighborhood walks and city sites.
If we go to Cincinnati again, this is where I am staying.
We were very disappointed with this accommodation. Air-conditioning was advertised but was not working (on a very hot, humid night in Cincinnati). The host's solution was to come upstairs and turn it completely off at 3:30 AM (he was apparently worried about further damage if left on????). This (with loud coughing) woke me up for the rest of the night. Host was apologetic and said someone was coming to look at it the next afternoon. We decided not to wait and see the fate of the A/C. We booked our remaining nights at a local hotel, expecting to be able to cancel our remaining nights without penalty (i.e., a typical, normal customer service gesture). Instead, the host said he had to charge us for two of the remaining four nights per Airbnb policy. He seemed to suggest that he "had to" follow the Airbnb policy on this. A normal, good-faith action would have been for him to offer to personally reimburse us for the other two nights that Airbnb wouldn't reimburse (outside of the Airbnb process). The Airbnb policy makes sense if a lodger simply cancels for no reason, but if there is a legitimate problem with the lodging (and false advertising), all bets are off and there should not be a cancellation policy. It was not as if this host had to swallow costs here . . . no one else had rented the other three rooms on the Thursday night we were there, and the host did not confirm with us whether any other rooms were booked for that weekend either. All in all, a very disappointing experience. If this host wants return lodgers, then he needs to think a bit more about customer service in instances such as this.
David booked a room with one queen bed for himself and his adult daughter, They are both tall people, On arrival he complained that the bed looked like a "Full" and not a queen. When the central air failed to cool the room sufficiently his first night, I had it immediately repaired by 1 o'clock the next day. That morning I offered him two options. The first was to return after the repair and see if the room was cooled properly and if so, a free room for his daughter. The second was a refund as per our stated policy, charging only for the first night and consumed breakfasts, should he decide to change to another lodging. He chose an early checkout rather than the fix and the free room. He is falsely stating that I said that someone was coming "the next day". I had someone there that very day. He is also falsely representing our conversation and the refund policy. My take on this experience is that he erred in making the booking, expecting to sleep comfortably in a queen with his daughter and took the first opportunity to change lodging when the air conditioning was not performing up to par. David was a very difficult guest. He has accused me of false advertising, because my AC system failed on the first night of his stay. This is the same system that cools the entire floor including my room. The AC had been working prior to his arrival. It was unfortunate that it failed that night. That he should make assumptions about my actions, or lack of same, and presume my intentions or "worries" as "apparent" indicates the great difficulty in dealing with a person who seems to make decisions based on his personal assumptions and not realities and good communication. If the room had not been cool at the time of his arrival, or at bedtime, then he had every opportunity to call it to my attention. He did not because it was working at that time. Clearly it failed during the night. From that, he extrapolates that I failed to make sure that the AC was working prior to arrival. Not true. I found dealing with David very stressful and a totally unwelcome experience.
A very nice stay at Bella Notte! Michael was gracious enough to wait up for us late in the evening so we could shop for things we lost when some of our luggage went missing on vacation.
The room was spacious and clean, bathroom very interesting with original fixtures and porcelain tub, and Michael provided water bottles and coffee. In the morning we were served a homemade meal of fresh bread and specialty omelets. Ask Michael about his filmmaking and his Beatles memorabilia, it is fascinating!
Michael is one of the best host I've ever meet with. His breakfast is unbeatable, not only looks good, but also tastes good. He also gave us a tour to his fabulous house, his private music studio and shared his stories with us. The bedroom is large, clean and quiet, and has a dedicated washroom, which is also beautiful. I would definitely revisit Michael the next time I go to Cincinnati.

About the Host, Michael
I'm a filmmaker who recently directed a feature film called "The Black Dove" starring John Savage, Sean Young, Abby Wathen, Red West, David Della Rocco and Lou Beattie Jr. My grandfather was a grocer and my Dad was in the Air Force. I learned to cook from my grandmother and mother.
Bella Notte is more than just a B&B. It's my home. It's decorated in an eclectic mix and the many books and antiques have deep personal meaning, so please respect them. While I know you will enjoy the atmosphere, its just as much about breakfast. Bella Notte exists for "foodies" and the menu is varied. Let me know if you have any preferences or foods you need to avoid and I will make every effort to craft a meal for you that you will savor and enjoy to begin each day here.
In the tradition of my family, mealtime is about sharing our lives through conversation. While you may dine alone, I encourage you to engage the other guests, as well as myself, in discussion and intellectual exploration. Humor is always appreciated, as is serious reflection. so don't be shy. Join us for a dynamic breakfast experience you will help to create.
