Just for you: a pretty and clean private room with a double bed,a glass door and window though which you can see the woodland, in a house surrounded by cedars on a 1 acre lot. Your bed has a mattress topper, a feather bed beneath you and high thread count, silky cotton sheets as well as a feather duvet. You can control the heat in your room and there is an extra blanket.
Your are also invited to make full use of the comfortable living room, kitchen, bathroom and deck. You will be just 5 minutes from the best beach on Salt Spring Island. This is east-facing Beddis Beach, a tranquil spot. A few steps away from the beach is a private apple orchard and you may sit in the gazebo there and enjoy the sight of deer in this serene spot.
Also nearby on Beddis Road is Moonstruck Cheese, a farm where gentle Jersey cows are cared for by the ladies and helpers who make the wonderful cheeses.
Beddis Road is also designated for cyclists. It winds along for 5 Km. There is no public transit on this road near A Country House in a Woodland. On Salt Spring there is a small community bus that travels on the main road of Fulford-Ganges Road and meets many of the ferries at our 3 ferry docks. The closest public transit stop is at the corner of Fulford-Ganges Rd. and Cusheon Lake Rd. From there, you would have to walk downhill to Beddis Road, turn right and walk to Beddis Beach (stop there for the beautiful view) then walk uphill to Creekside Drive, and in 5 minutes, to your B&B. So it is handy to have a car to explore the whole large island which has many bays, mountains, wetlands, Garry Oak meadows and so on.
There are chickens in the yard and cats in the house (but not in your room). You will likely see wild deer wandering by or even napping in the grass. They love to eat the sweet crab apples that fall from the huge tree behind the house.
You should feel free to make full use of the kitchen and crockery to prepare breakfast in this vegetarian household. Food, mostly organic, is supplied for a hearty continental breakfast. Eggs from the chickens who eat only organic food are available.
The spa-like bathroom has a claw-foot tub and the walls are lined with cedar. The house is a unique area because one nearby neighbor, the famed Saltspringer, "Art the Birdman", has an interesting, varied collection of animals and birds, including emus, that may be visited with Art's supervision.
If you want to sample the many events and shopping in and near the main town of Ganges is only 15-20 minutes away by car. You probably won't want to miss the popular Saturday Market at which many of the artisans, bakers, cooks, and farmers display their wares from 9AM to 3PM.
There are lots of creative workshops on Salt Spring Island. There is music at several cafes and restaurants. The "Sip and Savour Festival" of culinary treats and wines is on September 27th and 28th.
Next is the Apple Festival on September 29th. This is a tour of all the orchards and tastes of many heritage apples. Apple Heaven! There is always something to do, see, hear or contemplate on this island.
At the end of a dead end road, A Country House in Woodland is quiet, safe and restful. At this B&B your bed has a new, comfortable mattress and your room looks out on woodland. Fresh towels are supplied and changed when needed. Everything is geared to your holiday comfort.
There is off-road parking for 1-2 cars on the paved driveway. Your hostess is a writer. Did you see the BBC description of Salt Spring Island? They love this magical place as much as we do.
It was a marvellous weekend at Maureen's house.she is a great host warm friendly and caring.she went the extra mile to make our visit very comfortable.thanks a lot Maureen .its an ideal place for a weekend get away for quietness and connection with nature.
Great place to stay on Saltspring. Maureen made sure I felt welcome and she is excellent host.
I came to the Island for work purposes and am so very pleased that I found Maureen's Bed & Breakfast! She was such a wonderful host. She always made sure I was comfortable; that my room was warm enough as well as making sure I had what I wanted to eat in the morning for breakfasts. I quite enjoyed the serene atmosphere - I had the chance to see quite a few deer right outside my window, as well as a peacock who came for a little visit.
Maureen was also very knowledgeable about where to find things on the island as well as the history of the island.
It was a wonderful experience!
Maureen was a fantastic host during my stay. She is very genuinely kind, friendly, and helpful, beyond the call of duty. Her home is clean and the room was lovely with a very comfortable bed. If I had not been working so much I would have loved to lounge about with a book, enjoying the environment.
The breakfast was generous and with a variety of healthy options. All kinds of dietary needs taken into consideration.
I loved being in the countryside outside of town and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Maureen!
My 2 days at Maureen's tranquil retreat was wonderful. Surrounded by books, trees, the sounds of the birds, deer rustling in the underbrush at night, for me it was the perfect setting for repose and reflection. She was hospitable, informative and very sensitive to what I was seeking, which was serenity and time alone. I very much appreciated her understanding as well as her company after time spent exploring and seeing the island.
I also read one of Maureen's novels during and after my departure. She is an accomplished author and insightful writer. Surrounded by books on the cozy couch, the fire crackling after a damp day in the woods, I was just where I wanted to be . I hope to visit again and enjoy the island experience and Maureen's hospitality.
Our host immediately responded to our inquiry to stay for the one night. The purpose of our trip was cycling Salt Spring Isle. We enjoyed the art stores, Salt spring Isle cheese tour and products. Our host`s property is located in a quite, unique spot with a nice little beach a block away. We dined on the beach until we lost the sun. We then sat in a little orchard across from the beach and watched the 10 wild dear (friendly) graze and pick apples. Our host`s house is clean , towels and face cloth for each of us. Key for the house was available . Nice comfy bed. Our host e-mailed us with concerns for our breakfast menu. She went to great effort for my wife`s oatmeal which took 4 hours to prepare . All our food was organic. Her neighbor, very friendly man and wife have 30 different animals. Emu,goats, ducks ,chickens, Etc. Our host`s house is 20 minutes to center of town by car. Our stay was peaceful and pleasant. Thanks for your hospitality Maureen
