Very welcoming host. Lovely cottage with open fire and comfy beds. Host also left us items to cook for breakfast on our first morning. Very relaxed stay. Would recommend
We had a great stay at Mario's cottage. The cottage is lovingly renovated and on a tucked away property. There's plenty of space, a lake behind the garden, and a crackling fireplace! It's warm, clean and comfy. Mario is a fantastic host and made us feel really welcome.
Even without a car, we managed fine - the little village Burtonport is within walking distance, and we took the ferry from there for a day trip to the beautiful island Arranmore.
Fantastic house and a welcoming host.
We let Mario know we were coming to snorkel in the area, and when we arrived he had already done some research and gave us directions to a gorgeous beach. Just be aware of the massive tidal range at spring tide if you decide to do the same.
Loved the house and the area, we had decided within 10 minutes of arriving that we would be coming back.
Peace and quiet. That's what I'll most remember about this place! Mario was a super host. Very accomodating and friendly. His place is idyllic overlooking a lake amongst the rugged landscape of Donegal. It is close to lots of beaches and a short drive to the nearby town of Dungloe where you'll find everything you need. I would love to go back up there again. :)
Mario's Cottage was as described and more - the decking out the back is south facing towards the lake. When the sun is out, it traverses the decking during the course of the day. Mario is a great host and the house is very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to return.
About the Host, M J
I have been travelling to Spain for the last 10 years working as a Property guide for a company in Santa Pola. Times and business have change but i stilll love to go back for short stays. During the summer months i run a small tourist office for the islands, issuing boat tickets and selling tea/ coffee. My winter challenge is to improve my Spanish ......and to stay warm !!
