The Space

Maggie’s Cottage is located in an idyllic setting just a few kilometres from the village of Falcarragh, in Donegal.

The cottage, built in traditional style, is situated on a half-acre site overlooking Muckish Mountain and Mount Errigal. It is an ideal base for golfing, fishing, horse-riding, cycling, walking and family holidays.

Accommodation sleeps 6-8; 2 x double rooms; 2 x twin attic rooms.

The cottage is well furnished and equipped to a high standard and benefits from double glazing and oil fired central heating.

Local Attractions

One of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Ireland is a ten minute drive from the house, and all other amenities and tourist attractions are within easy reach, including Glenveagh National Park, Dunlewey, Horn Head and Sheephaven Bay.

There are excellent golf courses both in Falcarragh and in Dunfanaghy (7k), and a plethora of good restaurants, traditional pubs and good music.Falcarragh or Cross Roads (Fal Carrach or An Falcarragh in Irish) is situated on a narrow inlet of Ballyness Bay and has a population of 990 people (2002). The town has a beautiful setting and is also within easy reach of some of Donegal's most spectacular scenery. There are a number of islands lying off Ballyness Bay. The largest of these is Tory Island which is still inhabited.

Scenery in the Falcarragh area is second to none. View two of Donegal’s most famous mountains, Muckish and Errigal or walk its miles of golden beaches. The spectacular sea cliffs at Horn Head and Glenveagh National Park are just a short drive away. The islands of Tory and Inisboffin can be seen from the coast, both of which are accessible from Magheroarty Pier nearby. Falcarragh is an ideal base from which to tour North West Donegal.

The road south from Falcarragh to Glenveagh passes through Muckish Gap . The slate-grey mass of Muckish Mountain dominates the view all the way from Falcarragh; the hillsides are pitted with old workings where quartzite sand was extracted for the manufacture of optical glass. It's a relatively easy climb from the roadside shrine at the Gap up a grassy ridge to the summit and, on a clear day from here, the entire coastline from the Bloody Foreland, with distant Tory, to Malin Head is splendidly visible.

Other Nearby attractions include:
Art galleries and craft shops abound
watersports, horseriding, golf, tennis, sea fishing and angling, boat trips, walks, etc,
Glenveagh National Park
Poisoned Glen and Dunlewey
Horn Head and Sheephaven Bay

A peaceful haven with magnificent scenery - book early to avoid disappointment.

St Catherine's College Armagh
I have lived in the city for ten+ years and love it. I manage a theatre training company. I have been a university lecturer and drama teacher and am now a health and social care professional working for a large Health Trust in N.Ireland. I have travelled extensively and enjoy meeting new folk and learning about other places and cultures. I speak fluent French and can pass myself ( just about!) in Spanish. I am passionate about the Arts and Theatre in particular and have a large social circle and many other interests. I have fallen in love with every place i've visited for one reason or another, and am currently very taken by Galicia in Northern Spain. I am fascinated by all things Indian and that's my next big travel destination. I love reading and cooking to help relax, and enjoy walking and hanging out over long lunches and dinners with my family and friends. My motto would be 'judge not....' I couldn't live without my family and friends. Belfast is a great city and there is much to enjoy with festivals in the area almost every month of the year. We have great theatre, music and traditional music festivals with something to suit everyone. My house is so close to town and yet also in the suburbs - a great space to relax after a hard day or evening's enjoyment.
