Vibrant neighborhood

Guests say this area is walkable with lots to explore, especially for dining out.
This circa 1870 house is just steps away from everything historic Berkeley Springs has to offer! Each lovingly renovated room has original art from around the world. Two blocks from downtown. Quiet enough for a peaceful retreat, but close to many fun shops, excellent dining, and historic adventures. Your delight-obsessed hosts are 10 minutes away. Gazebo, fire pit, deck, gardens, formal dining, wine bar, library, WiFi, HVAC. Do a spa day in town or in one of our refurbished 1920s clawfoot tubs.

The space
TV
We have a Smart TV on wheels on the ground floor. It is stationed in the dining room and plugged into a charger. Unplug the base, grab it by the pole, and wheel it to where you want to watch TV. It pivots to landscape. There is a power button on the back (a little hard to see). Turn on the power, then use the remote to navigate the apps. You can log into your favorite streaming services for music, movies, or whatever else you want. If you would like to use it for Zoom, there is a camera that can be attached. Just ask and we will set it up for you. The guest account gets reset after every visitor, so your account information is wiped clean.

Heating and Cooling
Use the (red and black) Resideo app on the iPhone in the Salon to control the two thermostats. Note that, in the summer, the attic runs a little hot, so you may want to set the temperature a few degrees higher than normal so that the second floor feels comfortable.

Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped, but let us know if there's something that we haven't thought about. You will find a full-size oven/stove, microwave, large toaster oven, coffee maker, teapot, and plenty of glassware, china, silverware, and cooking utensils. We've included some basic cooking supplies.

Library
The fireplace works but won't be ready for use until the fall, so please keep any firemaking to the backyard. There are many books to read. If you find one you're obsessed with but didn't get to finish, consider replacing it with something else you've finished reading and wouldn't mind sharing with a future guest.

Bathrooms
Each bathroom is equipped with a restored clawfoot tub from the 1920s. There are caps on the drains that you can remove when showering or to drain the tub, but put them back in place when you're done. The reason? The original plumbing did not include "p traps" that keep sewer gas from coming up. If you leave them open, eventually the bathrooms will smell a little funny!

Be sure to check out the diorama in the Harry Potter Half Bath under the stairs on the ground floor!

Backyard
Feel free to use the fire pit. There are fire starters on the back porch along with bundles of firewood. If you run out of firewood, please let us know. Please take care not to make too big a fire -- especially during our dry season. Half of the history of Berkeley Springs is punctuated with "...and then it burned down." We hope you'll enjoy the gazebo and back deck too. The lights on the fence can be controlled with the remotes on the back porch.

Bicycles
There are two bikes on the side porch that you are free to use. There's a pump on the shelves next to the bikes in case the tires are a little low. There's one lock if you go tooling around town. The combination is 1870 (the year Congress House was built). We don't have helmets at the house, but you can pick some up at The Trail Depot if you didn't bring yours. Ride at your own risk.

Security Camera
We have a Ring motion-activated security camera at the front door that alerts us when people come and go. There are no other cameras in the house -- your privacy is very important to us!

Guest access
The entire home is available for your use except the attic and the cellar (both marked “Private”).

Other things to note
The town has a fire horn that is about a block away (cell service is v spotty, so this is how they call volunteers to the station). You can ignore it (it’s a little loud) unless it goes continuously with a steady tone, indicating a tornado warning. Seek shelter immediately in the cellar.
