About this listing
Comfy, small, private room in a sweet little house very conveniently located close to airport, Amtrak station, Old Market, CenturyLink Center and all the hottest attractions that Omaha has to offer.
Please make sure to read ALL of the details about the property and the house rules about the bathroom for more information and so there are no surprises during your stay. Click on the "+ More" button down there for complete information. It's a cute, small, cozy room with an extremely comfortable queen size bed, and two small dressers. The room has a ceiling fan, windows that open, and hardwood floors. It's the only bedroom on the main floor of the house, and is next to a very inviting living room that is great for reading, relaxing, or watching a movie. I live here! And I will be in the space as well, using mostly the office but also the ktichen and bathroom. Please note that the shared bathroom has Jack and Jill doors and this is one of the reasons I keep the price low. If you're looking for total privacy and silence, this may not be a good fit for you. There is a more detailed description of the bathroom situation below.
Guests can use the entire main floor of the home which includes the front porch, living room, dining room and limited use of the kitchen. Guests can help themselves to drinking glasses and water as well as mugs and may make themselves hot tea with honey if they wish. There is plenty of parking in front of the house as well as a large parking lot immediately west of the house and another across the street north of the house. I do not have a garage. There is a University near by that patrols the neighborhood 24/7 so it's pretty safe but guests are welcome to store luggage, bikes or kayaks in the basement if they don't feel comfortable leaving items in their car.
Interaction with Guests
I try to give my guests as much privacy as possible, but am happy to interact with them and offer them information if they desire. As my schedule permits, I'm happy to be a local tour guide. On weekdays I'm usually up and out of the house by 8:30 am and I try to be quiet as possible so as not disturb my guests.
It's a great neighborhood; it's safe, friendly, multicultural and multigenerational. I stay up on all the latest neighborhood goings-on through use of the NextDoor app. I am on the corner of a somewhat busy intersection so there can sometimes be noisy traffic; especially motorcycles in the summer. I provide guests with earplugs in case they are light sleepers. There is a bakery across the street that makes fresh donuts every morning except Sunday and a new coffee shop down the block. Also across the street is one of Omaha's most famous Italian steak houses. We are close to a small university that has great security which patrols the neighborhood 24/7.
We are three blocks from the bus stop. It's about an 8 block walk to the Old Market from here, and about the same distance to the zoo.
Other Things to Note
It's an old house! It has some quirks, again, this is why I keep the price so low. Doors and windows swell up with the humidity and don't often work the best. The bathroom is a jack and jill bathroom so it has two doors, one to the is to the guests' bedroom and the other is to my office. I request that guests not use the door between their room and the bathroom. When guests have used in the past, they never close it all the way and then when I enter the bathroom it makes a lot of noise to close it and wakes people up. I provide earplugs to all guests in case anyone is concerned about early morning noise from the bathroom. I would also like to note that I am in the process of scraping the old paint off of my bathtub in order to repaint it. It's a pretty tedious process that makes for an unsightly tub, but I clean the dickens out of it before the arrival of every guest.
I would ask that guests not invite others into my home. Guests may use the kitchen and dishes as long as they clean up after and wash their dishes. The door between the guests' room and the bathroom should be kept closed. There is no smoking allowed in the house or on the front porch but guests may smoke out in the yard if they wish as long as they clean up their butts.
Karen's place was exactly as described. She left us water, coffee, and snacks upon our arrival. We only met her briefly but she made us feel very comfortable, and it was only a short walk to Old Market.
Karen was super welcoming to my friend and I at her lovely home. She had a little plate set out with water and note. Later that evening we ran into her and had a great conversation. Would definitely airbnb at her place again.
Karen made us feel welcomed and very comfortable-there was a spread of water and coffee ready for us when we arrived and her detailed instructions for entrance were super helpful. Her apartment was fabulous and creatively decorated. The neighborhood was safe and calm Thank you Karen your amazing!!
This was me and my husband's second time staying at Karen's. Such a great location - it takes only minutes to get to Old Market and Downtown Omaha. Karen was out of town this visit, but when we arrived at the house, everything was clean and we felt very comfortable staying at her home.
Awesome! Great neighborhood and close to everything needed. Karen was super helpful getting me great local recommendations on places to see and eat too!
Staying at Karen's was great! I didn't get to meet her because she was out of town, but her place was wonderful and in a great location!
