Our static caravan is nestled at the edge of a small wood in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale in the heart of the English Lake District. It's a cool and affordable glamping -like holiday in a stunning countryside setting. It's great value for week long stays.
Please note, we usually let the caravan for full weeks, arriving and departing on Saturdays. Shorter breaks are available at the last minute and at the beginning and end of the season.
The caravan has many of the original fittings and has been really well cared for - we'd call it 'good vintage condition'. We've gone with the 70's vibe with the accessories!
There is a double (4ft double bed) room and the second bedroom can be either a double or a twin (it has two 2ft beds). The fully equipped galley kitchen extends to a spacious living/dining area.
The wooded fell is behind the caravan and to the front are fabulous views across the valley. The wood is home to our resident tawny owl, red squirrels and woodpeckers. So, it's great for wildlife enthusiasts as the birds can also be watched from inside at the breakfast table or from the sofa. Outside, there's parking for one car (more nearby if you need it) and picnic tables and chairs to enjoy the views.
Manesty is less than a mile from the Derwentwater lakeshore and about the same distance from the pretty village of Grange, with its teashops and double hump-backed bridge over the River Derwent. The 'Honister Ramber' bus takes you into Keswick from the doorstep between Easter and November, or the launch runs all-year round, as does a bus from Grange.
We're in a perfect location for walks, water sports, touring the villages, or just sitting back to relax! We provide all our guests with our 'walks from the door' which we have written ourselves: 11 walks of varying lengths that you can enjoy straight out of the gate.
Our family have lived at Manesty, a traditional Lakeland farmstead in Borrowdale, for nearly 200 years and have a long history of welcoming visitors to share our beautiful part of the world. We live in the house near the original farmstead built by Alan's father and grandfather and let the original farmhouse and converted barns as holiday cottages. We're here to help you get the best out of your stay if you want and are always happy to offer advice.
‘Free Sat’ TV.
Shower room/wc with shower over hip bath.
Laundry room with washer, dryer, games cupboard and library shared with the holiday cottages.
Kitchen: the 4 cubic ft refrigerator has a small ice box. There is no dishwasher or microwave, although we can provide a microwave if you wish.
Hot Water: there is instantaneous electric water heating.
The caravan is usually let Saturday-Saturday. Bookings for less than 7 days need to be taken between Saturday and Saturday, and are offered at the last minute at our discretion.
Please do not exceed the maximum occupancy of 4 guests. When you book we will ask for the number of guests staying and their names and addresses - we are happy for you to change these, but just let us know! We do have cottages for more than 4 if you need.
The price includes bed linen, towels and electricity.
Our accommodation is non smoking and pet free.
We don't include any cleaning fees in our prices, instead we ask you to leave your accommodation clean and tidy at the end of your stay. On your arrival we ask for a small returnable deposit (£10 per person, min £20) which we hold while you are with us. At the end of your stay we return this after a quick check. We would like to do this deposit through airbnb but their minimum deposit is ($100/£70) which we think is too much! If you would prefer to pay a cleaning fee instead, please let us know and we can arrange this.
We have one outdoor wood fired hot tub, which can be booked for a day at a time by guests staying in any of our accommodation. Please book in advance and check availability before you book accommodation if this is an integral part of your holiday plans.
Finally, please let us know of any anything you need or any problems you might have while you are here. We want you to have a great stay with us and letting us know of any issues as soon as they arise means we can sort them out as soon as possible instead of their dragging on through your holiday. Feel free to ask us about great places to walk and visit while you are here - our family has been at Manesty for six generations so we should be able to point you in the right direction!
Alan and Cheryl made us feel more than welcomed and made us familiar with the area. The caravan was spotless and perfectly cosy. They helped us out with a handy folder of maps, menus and walks which we took great advantage of! We had a wonderful weekend away and would love to return in the near future! The only down side for us was a luke warm shower after returning from a long walk but we found the caravan itself warm and cosy ..and the views from all windows are breathtaking!
We had such a lovely relaxing stay in the caravan which was exactly as advertised and what we were expecting. The walking routes provided by Alan & Cheryl were great. The caravan and water were always warm despite us staying in November.
The area, Manesty, is beautiful. Tucked away off the main road it's reach via Grange or through a mountain road on Catbells. It's a very short drive to anywhere else in the north of the Lake District and we even went up to Hadrian's Wall in 1 hour and 20 minutes. It's probably about the same to get down to the south of the Lake District but we stayed away from the touristy parts around Windermere so can't confirm.
Alan and Cheryl (and Alice) were very welcoming and provided info on the area and on how the caravan itself operated, location of cleaning equipment etc and then left us to enjoy our holiday in peace. Just what we wanted.
The caravan is as described and more than suitable for our needs. We (my wife, myself and a 18 month toddler) were there for a week and it was fine. The internet is a little slow (when working) but is to be expected in such parts. I imagine most people might not be bothered by the internet speed but when we were trying to use it for (website hidden) Maps, or for me to keep in touch with work it could get frustrating... But enough of that. No other complaints or gripes.
This was our first AirBnB experience and must say it all went well. I'd recommend the Caravan and staying with Alan and Cheryl (and Alice) to anyone looking for a simple quiet retreat.
The caravan is in a perfect location. The info about local walks was really helpful and we did about four of them. I left a few things behind and Alice was really helpful in sending it to me. Caravan had everything we needed. Only thing that could have been a bit better was the wifi, which was limited.
The caravan was just right: cosy and warm but with enough space to spend two rainy days indoors and not get cabin fever! Alan, Alice and Cheryl couldn't have been more helpful. Next time I need to get away from it all (in comfort) I'll definitely consider returning to the (website hidden) I heard the tawny owl and saw red squirrels - a wonderful added bonus.
I loved staying here and will definitely be back! I received such a warm welcome from Alan, Cheryl and Alice and the caravan is excellent! It's in great condition, very clean, tidy, cozy and looks as presented in the photos. It's also very private with a lovely view over the valley to the mountains. Cheryl and Alan are very knowledgeable about the area. Manesty is beautifully quiet (without the crowds) and you can't beat the location for walking.
Alan and Cheryl are perfect hosts, very informative, the place is beautiful, and we will definitely return. Linda and John

Alan's family has lived at Manesty, in Borrowdale, for nearly 200 years. Our children (now grown up) are the sixth generation to have lived here. Our family has a long history of welcoming visitors to this magical part of Borrowdale and we are proud to continue the tradition of sharing our beautiful little corner of England.
If you want, we're able to provide you with a wealth of local information and tips. Our 'walks from the door' is just one way that we try to make sure you get the most from your Lake District holiday. We live next door so we're always on hand to answer questions, help you book activities and recommend things to do but far enough away though that you don't need to see us if you don't want to. We're really proud of our cottages and glamping accommodation and love our area. We hope to welcome you soon!
