About this listing
Welcome to Strathcona -- one of Vancouver's most sought-after neighbourhoods!
This studio suite offers high ceilings, gorgeous bay windows, exposed beams and polished concrete. It is the garden level of our beautiful heritage house, located right next to downtown. The house has been meticulously renovated, and the suite is wonderfully appointed and finished to the highest standards, including a soaker tub and heated towels in the bathroom, private entrance, flat screen TV with surround sound, wireless internet, queen-sized bed with luxury sheets, queen-sized pull-out sofa, and open-concept kitchen/dining area. There is well-maintained landscaping in the garden outside, and the house is literally steps from MacLean Park, in the heart of the neighbourhood.
There is lots of street parking right out front, and the house is a block from several wonderful delis, grocers and cafes. There's even a fantastic cheese shop and french restaurant less than three blocks away! Best of all, it is ten minutes' stroll to historic Gastown, five minutes to the seawall in False Creek, ten minutes to Rogers Arena. There are frequent buses less than two blocks away, as well as a nearby Skytrain station. We also have two vintage bicycles available for use -- and we're one block off of the city's busiest bike route on Union Street.
Enjoy the pleasure of your own front door! You will be amazed by the peace and tranquility, so conveniently located in the heart of the city. This suite is fully equipped and an ideal 'home away from home' for travelers seeking short or long-term accommodation, and an alternative to uncomfortable hotels. No elevators, no undergraound parking -- instead, we have a lock-box system in place for the key, so it's easy to arrive at your leisure.
Absolutely no smoking! We're totally gay-friendly and family-friendly. We have a two year-old daughter, so we have to make sure everything is alright by her. We ask that guests park on the opposite side of the street, as it is permit-only parking in front of the house.

We enjoyed staying in this suite for our first trip to Vancouver. It was nicely decorated and private. The neighborhood itself was filled with beautiful historic homes and although on the edge of a rougher area, we did feel safe. Definitely recommended!
Samantha & Jason's basement apartment was a fine place to stay while in Vancouver for a few days. The hosts were lovely and we spoke to a few neighbors who were all very kind as well. The place was very clean, access was easy and the hosts provided most of the necessities we would need during our stay. Things to note: wifi worked intermittently for us most of the time but once we talked to Samantha about it it seemed to be a quick fix so if you have a problem just try messaging her (she was always very prompt to respond). The neighborhood was quite busy and finding parking was a challenge on most evenings & some rougher parts of town seemed to be just a street or two over and I wouldn't have felt comfortable being unfamiliar with the area walking to and from but it was a good location to drive to basically anything we wanted to do. The laundry was a shared space (not a bother at all but something not noted in description) and we were under the impression from the photos that there would be some type of private outdoor seating area which there wasn't really (seating area was positioned at the bottom of their front stoop steps/windows). It's the perfect place to be if you want to explore Vancouver because even though the space itself is quite cute, being a basement apartment there isn't much "ambiance" and we didn't feel compelled to do much hanging out there like we've been sucked into doing at some other AirBnB's. For us, here it was basically just about sleeping in a comfy bed (which it was very comfortable!), having a nice place to shower (the soaking tub was also huge!), do laundry and have a home base to explore from and for that Samantha & Jason's place was perfect. All in all we had a pleasant stay - thank you so much for opening up your home!
This BNB was roomy and true to the picture. It was well appointed. Close to 2 bus routes, the No 22 and the No 19, and if you felt like it a 30minute walk to the CBD. The No 19 went all the way to Stanley Park. There were a number of cafés close by. My favourites were The Union and Crack Le Crème on Union St.
Having use of the laundry was great. The area is very nice. Lots of heritage listed houses. A few blocks to the west, near Chinatown, there are many homeless people on the streets. We had no problems with them and just avoided Hastings St. Sam and Jason are around if you need anything.
We immediately felt safe and happy in this lovely flat. It was well-equipped and the bed was extremely comfortable. It's worth noting that as the flat is open plan you do hear the fridge and furnace running during the night. Our hosts were very pleasant and were keen that we should have a good time. They live just above, and are considerate and quiet. The neighbourhood was quiet, but very interesting and varied, partly because it is not far from Chinatown. A very handy bus takes you downtown, but it is also walkable in 20-30 minutes. We were however warned not to walk on East Hastings Street, which is a few blocks away.
We really enjoyed our stay. The location was great for exploring the city, it was great to have use of 2 bicycles, and the apartment was well equipped for cooking and relaxing.
