I am a Tunisian American living in Tunis. My uncle & his family are renting their fully-furnished, 2 bedroom apt in the Kram neighborhood, 5 mins from public transport & grocery store. Includes: washing machine, fridge, stove, cooking equipment, tv etc. Rent includes electricity, water and internet.
This space is perfect for those looking for a simple but highly functional apartment. The neighborhood is residential and quiet yet close enough to give easy access to both downtown Tunis and the Northern Suburbs (Marsa, Sidi Bou Said, Carthage, Gammarth).
The apartment consists of the 1st floor of a 3-story house. My uncle and his family live on the top two floors.
My uncle and his family of 4 are warm, welcoming and hospitable. My aunt makes the best cous cous in Tunis and you will get to try it!
They are excellent landlords and are always there if needed. They are very open-minded and glad to meet people from around the world, yet they also understand the need for privacy and personal space. Renters can be in and out as they please and guests are welcome.
Thanks God Alia spoke English. We felt really frustrated in Tunis because we did not speak neither french nor arabic. We got Alia's place by taxi from the port. It took us less than 10 minutes by a taxi (really cheap). The place is a small apartment. The decoration is nice and is four blocks from the tram station. The carrefour is almost in front. Nice experience!!!
The hosts were absolutely amazing (5/5). They spoke only French, but they brought us bread and snacks and periodically checked in on us to make sure everything was OK.
As for the actual unit, there is much left to be desired (2/5). It's a big place but only one room has an air conditioner. With it being so hot, my entire group ended up huddled in one of the two big rooms. Also, the bathroom has no curtain so it's flooded by the time one person finishes showering. Lastly, you would find random bugs and snails along the floors of the kitchen/bathroom which was alarming at first.
