About this listing
Beautifully furnished, private, quiet, spectacular views from every room, fabulous kitchen and summer time gardens to revel in... can't get much better than this. Perfect couples get-away; for writers/meditators who need that perfect time and space.
I built this Retreat House with aesthetics to match the unparalleled beauty surrounding it. A tall order but it feels I accomplished just that and I love it here year round.
The views from every room are spectacular, the coyotes sing lullabies at night, and there is a ceiling fan for a gentle breeze in summer and passive solar and wood burning stove for heat in the winter.
There is also a day bed in the living area that could be used for night viewing of the milky way best seen in the summer.
The kitchen is superbly stocked if you wish to cook (and just clean up). Coffee/tea/basic condiments provided for cooking.
This is a pet friendly vacation home. If you have allergies, this may not be your best option. Pets are allowed with notification and a pet fee.
Built in 2006 as my personal retreat house in the high Rockies, it is nestled against the backdrop of three 14,000 foot peaks in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range.
One of the few homes in Crestone to have landscaping and what a difference that makes in the summer. But this is no ordinary landscaping... there are walkways, chair hammocks, benches, a water feature with fountain. I've planted a meadow of indigenous wildflowers and grasses rather than conventional grass lawns. There are some nice pics of this in the photo session. Fencing is the key in having such landscaping in an area where deer and wildlife would consider these glorious plants as brunch. I've cultivated this meadow like landscaping to attract both bees and butterflies and it works!
This little remote mountain town, Crestone, is truly one of the undiscovered gems by travelers seeking those fewer and fewer roads less traveled here in North America.
Many guests come for personal retreat time, to write or meditate/reflect. There is no telephone, radio or TV since this really is a time to distance oneself from such distractions and focus on the quiet, the moment, and the opportunity to experience such stunning beauty.
There is, however, Excellent wireless internet, if you choose to bring a laptop. No password either.
This home has an in-law unit below where lives, Alex, an old gentleman who will greet you and if you have questions, he can most likely answer. You'll never hear a peep from him. His quarters are completely separate from the upstairs quarters where you will stay.
Interaction with guests
You'll have my cell phone # and email so you can reach me if you have any questions or concerns. Again, Alex, who lives down below will be helpful as well.
Other things to note
No smoking (of anything), no scented/non-scented candles, aromatherapy, etc.
Cleaning fee for month long rentals is $150 rather than $50 for shorter rentals
Arriving before dark is a Must. There are no street lights out here and if you don't have Verizon and it's after dark, then even smoke signals can't help you.
For whatever reason, airbnb will not set up a field for a pet fee. There is a Pet Fee and it's $50/pet. Once you reserve we can talk about how to get that fee to me.
There is no trash pick out here, so please take ALL your trash with you when you leave. I apologize for this, it's just the way it is when living so remotely.
This is a smoke free house both interior and exterior- please respect that (we all appreciate that)
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund. Cancel within 7 days of your trip and the reservation is non-refundable.

For 30 years I studied nutrition and Oriental medicine with private clinical practices in Santa Barbara and the Bay Area. For three years I lived and worked in a renowned university in Seoul Korea as their Director of International Studies of Oriental medicine.
Before turning to Oriental medicine in my 40's I lived and worked as a documentary photographer in places like the Golden Triangle of SE Asia, Singapore, Indonesia and the garbage landfills of Tijuana, Mexico.
Now, I live quietly, write, meditate and feed my soul with all the books that I never had time to read but bought in abundance in the hopes that I would read them someday. Someday has arrived. Crestone offers me that Time and Space to explore... the mind, books, nature (esp. birds), and the challenges of living so remotely.
