The Space

Hopefully the pictures speak for the comfort of this home. This is a modern home in walking distance to the heart of all that makes Austin one of the best cities in the country: restaurants, bars, clubs, museums, the Capital, food trailers, Town Lake and its amazing running trail, go tubing down the Colorado just a 3 minute drive away, world famous Franklin Bar BQ, White Horse saloon, too much to list here. This is an incredibly comfortable home right on the pulse of the city.

Guest Access

Mi casa, su casa. Two, covered, gated parking spots are yours as well as access to the ground's bar bq pit and picnic table.

Interaction with Guests

I may be out of town, but my friend Mari lives just down the street and will be happy to set you up and give you the low down on the city. Please contact her to set up accommodations (phone number hidden).

The Neighborhood

East Downtown Austin is the hip, hip part of Austin. You name it, it's in walking distance: bars, restaurants, art, music, parks, the lake, the Convention Center, UT the Capital... Across the street is the Saltillo Plaza where there is a fantastic farmers' market every weekend with live music. Speaking of live music, it's everywhere here. My favorite, the world famous White Horse Saloon, a 30 second walk, has the best honky-tonk dancing. The countless restaurants are fantastic with a food trailer park also just down the street. This home is one block over from famous 6th st, with all it's vibrant energy. Walk down to Lady Bird Lake and watch the largest urban population of bats take flight when the sun goes down. There is really just too much to list here, all in walking distance, or if you'd rather, take a pedi-cab; they're caddy corner from here. You'll love it.

Getting around

Just about everything you want to do can be walked to, but the light rail train station is directly across the street (it's really silent) so is the bus stop. The pedi-cab home base is caddy corner, and you'll never be at a loss for a cab. Two covered, gated parking spots on the grounds are yours. The airport is a 10-15 minute drive away. I-35 is a 2 minute drive away. You can rent a bike for $25/day from Pedal Pushers just a 2 minute walk away.

Other Things to Note

There is only one bed in the house (king-size and way comfortable), though there is also an inflate-a-bed under the bathroom sink downstairs and the sofa too makes for comfortable sleep.

  • Loads of space, lots of light and a really great vibe. Mario is a terrific host, and went out of his way to recommend places to go and things to see. The bed is super comfy, as promised!

It is worth noting the railway line out front. If you're a light sleeper, you might find the early morning/late night trundling of the trains (and the crossing signals) a bit disturbing - but it didn't bother me unduly.

  • We had a great experience renting Mario's townhouse during SXSW this year. An easy walk to downtown, great neighborhood, very comfortable place. Mario was available and in touch throughout our stay for anything we needed.

  • Mario is so fabulous and this townhouse is amazing! I was going to Austin for work and had three friends meet me there for a mini four-day reunion. All four of us slept comfortably here (2 in the bed, 1 on the couch, and 1 on the air mattress). The location and price were perfect for us. The neighborhood has a lot of great things happen (farmer's market, new restaurants, etc) and downtown Austin is walkable or a cheap taxi away. It was a wonderful long weekend!

  • The best AirBnB experience I've had thus far. Mario was such a positive, gracious host. Communication with him was super friendly, helpful and easy. As for the Swanky Townhouse, it is all that and then some. Great location in a hip neighborhood, just far enough away from the club part of downtown, but still close to anything you'd need. Lots of cool bars and food trucks in the area and the Sunday farmer's market across the street was a great bonus. The place is clean, well decorated and wonderful. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud, so very comfortable. If circumstance brings me back to Austin one day for another visit, I would DEFINITELY contact Mario to stay at his place again. Thanks!!!

  • I contacted Mario semi-last minute, and he was extremely accommodating in setting me up at his condo.

The condo itself looks out over downtown Austin (the capitol building can be seen from the top floor), and the furnishing and location are just perfect. I found the condo extremely clean and comfortable, Mario was a great host, and I will definitely be staying there again next time I'm Austin. Highly recommended.

  • Mario's place was great! Very cool loft with great artwork and lots of light. We loved how it was walking distance to 6th Street and many of the downtown hotspots. Mario himself was very responsive and easy to communicate with. And, the bed was super comfortable! Highly recommended! We had a great stay!

  • You could not ask for a better location right in the heart of everything happening on the East Side. We loved how close and within walking distance Mario's place was to both Downtown and the bars and restaurants on the Eastside. The place itself was very spacious loft with good light and a ton of great artwork. We appreciated the full bath upstairs and downstairs, which is convenient if you are traveling as a group. Mario was great host! He was easy to communicate with pre/post our arrival. He made the whole process seamless from check-in to check out and he made us feel like his home was ours for the short time we were in Austin. Highly recommend this spot, especially if you are a couple!
