We have bus service at the entrance to Cook Cook Rd. on Hwy 19 that is capable of island wide destinations. Should you rent a car, free parking is available on property.

We are situated in the "coffee belt" of Kona, in Captain Cook, Hi at 1400 ft. elevation. Natural trade winds keep our area cool and comfortable. During the winter and spring extra blankets are provided if requested. Our average temperature is a cool 76-84 during the day and in the high 60's to low 70's at night. We are located near many points of interest. Keahou Bay (15 minute drive) is excellent for snorkeling, kayaking and swimming. Across the high way is a historical functioning coffee farm that offers tours to see how and what is involved in keeping a coffee farm thriving. There is Botanical Garden roughly 500ft. to the south of us where many indigenous plants prosper and various classes are offered. Nearby activities include hang gliding, zip lining, surfing, paddle boarding and swimming. We are in walking distance to a shopping center, post office, bakery, grocery store, hair stylist and several local restaurants. A 15 minute drive takes you to downtown Kona filled with a multitude of shops to collect your souvenirs. We are a 20 minute drive to one of two National parks in Hawaii. Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Park which offers field trips and programs related to ancient Hawaii. It is referred to as City of Refuge as in olden times it was used to harbor ancient peoples and royalty from their enemies. The other park is on the east side of the island (Hawaii Volcano National Park). Our island is very unique with rainforests, a desert, an active volcano on the east end of the island, two world known mountains of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, beautiful beaches and a multitude of farms filled with exquisite orchids, fresh vegetables, coffee fields, mc nut farms and many exotic plants. We have a farmers market within walking distance that opens every Sunday. There are also many other markets in a 10 mile radius. You are able to drive around the island in a day, visiting all the various regions and enjoying all that the Island of Hawaii has to offer. Imagine, traversing the often snowy mountains in the winter to swimming in our clean, blue pacific waters, watching the most spectacular sunsets and sunrises, embracing all of God's wonders during your trip here.

  • We had a lovely stay in Bernie's room and really enjoyed our trip on the Big Island. The room is spacious and offers everything you need. Ensuite there is a bathroom with two sinks and a toilet. The shower is across the hallway, this bathroom is also very large, modern and clean. You have your own entrance and a little kitchen/eating area that is to share with other guests. Everything is really clean and Bernie made sure that you have everything you need. The breakfast was the best part, fresh fruit and delicious bakery goods were served and it was really delicious. A great start for your vacation. We can really recommend this place and would love to return some day!

  • Bernie and Kevin were such sweet hosts! Bernie really did everything to make us feel comfortable and staying with them felt like home right away! The house is really clean, the bed was super comfy and the breakfast was amazing! We had such a great time on Big Island, which was our favorite Island to stay at! I really recommend this place!

  • It's true that we didn't have the luck to have one of bernie's continental breakfasts (because unfortunately she was in hospital), but her very carying husband kevin took care of us as if we were one of his grandchildren. We enjoyed one of our most satisfying airbnb locations. Comfy bed, much space for clothes and luggage, big toilet with a sink per person. Price, cost and location are unbeatable! breakfast on the little veranda in front of the house was just perfect. everything you need like grocery stores and coffee & restaurants nearby. even hapuna beach is not too far away.

kevin & bernie, thank you very much and we wish you health and a great future together.

    aloha! miloud & joana

  • We loved our stay! The location was central to many activities and outside the touristy Kona downtown. Hosts are great and breakfast was an amazing treat. Room is quite private and very modern, with a beautiful patio for morning breakfasts and evening wine. We made a simple dinner every night using provided appliances and the coffee maker was another benefit. Better and much cheaper than a hotel. Stay here if you can!

  • Hi, Bernie's TuTu retreat was excellent, very comfortable. Kevin helped us see what trips were folly and which were essential. The location near the best diving (two step) and coffee at Kona Coffeeshop at Honaunau, best burgers at Annie's, markets close by. Great breakfasts by Bernie, New quality accomodations relaxing, lanai for morning coffee, snorkling and body surfing equipment very handy. Exceeds anything you could get at a resort or hotel. Private entrance made it fantastic. Other guests from Europe. Felt like you weren't in the states with all the chatter in french or german and the broken english accents.. Just a lovely place to stay.

  • Thank you Bernie & Kevin for a great stay at your place! I can highly recommend your place to anyone looking for a clean, nice and quiet room!

The room is very clean, spacious and bright. The bathroom is big, with two sinks, shower is next door in another bathroom. The kitchen is fully equiped with everything, which we found great to cook some dinner at night. We very much enjoyed hanging out in the lanai in the mornings and evenings and chatting to you and other guests.

Bernie prepared breakfast for us which was delicious with many local fruits.

The house is cetrally located on the Kona coast in a quiet area.

We really very much enjoyed staying with you. MAHALO!!

  • We stayed three nights at Bernie's place to explore the Kona coast. Our time there was outstanding. Our room and the house in general were lovely and clean. It's equipped with everything you need. Bernie and Kevin are charming and warm people. They took their time to introduce everything and shared very helpful recommendations. The breakfast was fantastic, a lot of island fruit which we loved. We recommend and would return without hesitation.

A L O H A, My husband Kevin and I were both born and raised in Kona. I am of Portugese decent, the third generation born and raised here! Kevin is Asian and his dad was born in Kona and his mom was born and raised on Maui. Kevin is a sponge for trivia and detail, will be able to answer most of anyone's questions. Kevin is now retired after working for the state for 33 years. He is now working on his "honey do" list that is quite extensive!. I am a registered nurse involved with home health for many years. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about their homelands and cultures. I have a passion for raising orchids and have a collection of about 100. I am an avid cook, dabbling in many ethnic cuisines. I also enjoy sewing and many crafts. We share our home with Prissy a 5 year old Shi Tsu who has Kevin wrapped around her paw. She is a tiny thing and is friendly, calm and quiet. She loves laying in the morning sun and belly rubs are her weakness. I have a grown daughter and son who both reside on this island. I am grannie to 3 granddaughters and 2 step grandsons. We look forward to sharing our home and aloha with all who are looking for a relaxing fun filled vacation on our beautiful island. You will enjoy your private space here. Just call upon us with any needs and questions.
