Interaction with Guests

I may or may not be in town during your stay, but I will always be available via phone or email, if needed. I sometimes have a roommate, but regardless if one or both of us are present your privacy & space will be highly regarded. When I am available, I love to play host and show people around if guests are interested or at the very least I can offer many suggestions and recommendations on places to go, things to do, etc. I've lived here almost 5 years and know more about this city than most of my friends who have lived here much longer. I've been told I am a great tour guide!

The Neighborhood

Little Italy is charming! It is a very cute, friendly neighborhood with so much to do within walking distance. Just steps away are numerous restaurants (mostly Italian, of course!), bars and shops. I love them all, but would recommend Isola and NaPizza (pizza); Bencotto (pasta); Burger Lounge (burgers); El Camino (Mexican); Prepkitchen (American); Pappalecco (coffee/gelato); Davanti (wine); Craft & Commerce (cocktails); Waterfront (dive bar); 98 Bottles (beer/wine).

Little Italy provides you all the conveniences of downtown life (no car needed, but close proximity to highways if driving), but is also removed enough that you can enjoy peace and quiet.

Must do's within walking distance (or if preferred, trolley or cab): the famous Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego Harbor, Seaport Village, Petco Park (Padres baseball), Coronado Island (via ferry), Balboa Park, USS Midway Museum and more! The San Diego Zoo and Sea World are a short 5-10 minute drive away. For business travelers, the Convention Center is about 5 minutes away via trolley.

Getting around

So much is within walking distance, but there are also convenient public transit options:
--The Little Italy Trolley stop is literally just across the street ($2.50) and can take you around downtown, Old Town, Mission Valley, Fashion Valley, Qualcomm Stadium (Chargers football) as well as to other neighboring cities.
--The Santa Fe Coaster (train) station is only 5 blocks away and travels as far north as Oceanside (up to $5.50).
--Car rental locations are within walking distance, in addition to the airport. If driving, there is easy access to the 5 and the 163 freeways.
--Car Service: I suggest Uber, which is more convenient & typically costs less than taxis. Use promo code: uberperez for $20 credit when signing up!

  • Located in a great neighborhood and Christie was very welcoming.

  • It's difficult to do justice to the quality of our experience with Christie in typed words. This review will be an attempt at covering some of the basic things that potential guests might consider.

To start with Christie, she was incredibly hospitable and accommodating. She was familiar with the things that folks might need in a place to stay, comfortable with sharing her space, and very helpful in making us feel at home. We were fortunate enough during our visit to spend some time with her and enjoy her fantastic recommendations about things to experience, places to see, and ways to get around.

The living space was clean and more than adequate to keep a few groceries, store our travel gear, and lounge around after hours of walking around the beautiful San Diego waterfront and downtown. The location couldn't be much better. Little Italy has almost too many bar and restaurant choices (we found ourselves experiencing choice paralysis!). It felt like a very safe and relatively quiet neighborhood. We were delighted to wake up to the pleasant tunes of live music from the farmer's market (which sets up right outside the window on Saturdays!) and be able to step outside to pick up some local fresh fruit and eggs.

We found the area conveniently walkable; a 15 minute walk got us clear across downtown. When traveling more than a couple miles, we took the trolley (which stops right outside of Christie's building!) or used Uber to get a ride - both super convenient options. There were plenty of places not-too-far-away to get groceries and things (including a fantastic organic and local food store). The Hyatt, PetCo Park, the convention center, and all downtown venues were short walks from Trolley stops (although we opted to walk most places). So, if the consideration is about whether Christie's place is in good proximity to the convention, business meeting, or recreational event that you need to attend, you will not be disappointed.

To sum it up, there's no 'Gotchya' here. This place was fantastic, and we'd go back to stay with Christie in a heartbeat, without changing a thing. Our one wish-list item is for better words to describe our experience. It was perfect!

  • I had a wonderful stay at Christie's apartment. It was very clean and located at a very convenient spot, close to restaurants and public transport. Christie is very friendly and helpful.

  • Noisy apartment close to airport and next to train tracks, with terrible internet. Not my cup of tea.

  • I stayed in Christie’s Little Italy apartment for five days, while attending a conference near the San Diego harborfront. Although I’d used Airbnb previously while visiting France, this was my first time for a U.S. destination.

I couldn’t have been more pleased. Christie and her roommate are utterly delightful: friendly, lively and fun, as well as kind, generous and helpful. They respect the guest’s privacy completely, but are enthusiastic and easy to talk to when you’re in the living room or kitchen.

The fifth-floor apartment is beautiful, with a balcony and vertical skylight in the living room. My room was cheerful, spacious and comfortable, with an excellent bed. The flat-screen TV in the living room gets plenty of cable channels, as does the smaller one in the guest room. Transportation around the city could hardly be easier, as a trolley stop is half a block away. Except for a shortage of closet/storage space, everything was perfect. My only regret is that I wasn’t able to stay longer.

  • I had a wonderful experience staying with Christie in her apartment. 1st the apartment is in the perfect location, right near all the restaurants in Little Italy and a few blocks to the waterfront. 2nd the apartment was so comfortable and clean. 3rd Christie and her roommates were fabulous. So friendly and helpful throughout my trip.

This is was 1st experience with Air BNB, and I was unsure of what to expect in the beginning but after my stay with Christie, I would totally do it again.

Overall, my experience was wonderful, no complaints. I highly recommend staying at her place. Also ask her about Christie special tours of San Diego. She is a great tour guide :)

  • I spent a week at Christie's and I really enjoyed the apartment and my time there. The location is great in the sense that it is so close to the bay (great for morning or evening runs, btw), India Street with all the restaurants, the trolley going straight to the beach up North and also, there is a delicious farmer's market just around the corner on Saturdays. I can truly recommend this place and would stay there again, except that next time I would probably like to stay closer to the beach as I don't have a car and I ended up spending 1.5-2 hours on transportation to the beach, but if you do have a car or if you just want to live downtown to explore the city, this is a really great spot. The apartment itself was nice and clean and I felt very welcome. Christie had left me a welcome note encouraging me to read her books, use her yoga mat etc, and her roommate Rina was amazing. We actually spent a day together brunching and beaching, and I went out with some of her girlfriends when she was working long hours. i didn't get to use the fitness room as I chose yoga, surfing and running, but I did enjoy the out door jacuzzi and the swimming pool which is great for an early morning swim before going to the beach.

  • This listing was great for a number of reasons.
    1) If you are looking to spend time in the Gaslamp day or night, this location is great because the train is right outside the door and you will be downtown in 10 minutes or less. You also head up north pretty easily from there into Old Town, Mission Beach, Sea World and the Zoo.
    2) This spot is right in the Center of Little Italy. It has great places to eat, a farmers market every saturday, and great bars in walking distance.
    3) Last thing, but definitely the most important. Christie was a great and helpful host. Her roommate was home at the time and she was very respectful for my girlfriends and my privacy. The residents in the complex are kind and fun to be around. The apartment is cozy, very welcoming and overall just beautiful to be in. The spa area is great and relaxing. It is a great neighborhood with a lot to do and is easy to commute to almost everywhere in Southern California.

If i ever needed to stay in San Diego again Christie will definitely be one of the places i contact for a stay. Every moment of my stay was enjoyable and comfortable.

A little about me: I'm 35, friendly, fun and love new experiences. I'm a self proclaimed foodie who can't live without wine, chocolate and cheese. If I could, I would travel the world and just eat, drink and photograph everything. I used to be a professional photographer, but am now in sales and marketing management. I studied art/photography and interior architecture & design so I'd like to think I've done a pretty good job turning my apartment into a beautiful, cozy living space. :) When not at home, I enjoy being active (hiking, yoga, pilates, jogging, bootcamp, etc), going to farmers markets, art shows, food & wine tastings, concerts, and cultural events. I am mature, respectful, responsible, and easy-going and I look for the same in my guests. I'm fairly new to Airbnb and hosting, but I look forward to meeting great new people and providing a fabulous place for travelers to stay! I may not have mastered the art of being the perfect host yet, but I aim to improve with each guest that stays at my place. I try to provide all the comforts of home and a few extra amenities too. :) I have an amazing apartment in a great neighborhood in San Diego...I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do!
