Interaction with Guests
We are very happy to welcome guests and answer questions you may have about our home and the Boston area. We are happy to orient you to the area as well as make recommendations based on your interests.
We have lived here for over twenty years and find this area very safe but we also know the limitations of this area.
Boston is a 45 minute commute. With either a 20 minute walk, 10 min bike or bus ride to Harvard Square's T Station. Harvard Station is the closest MBTA or subway stop and will get you to MIT or Boston. A ride on the T's Redline to Park St Boston's downtown area is within reach. Boston alike offers many wonderful walks, museums, shopping and tours exploring it's rich history. Harvard University's Peabody Museum, Natural History Museum and Fogg Art Museum are all worth considering.
There are a variety of ways to get around the Somerville, Cambridge and Boston area. Walking, bicycling, the subway ((website hidden)) and Uber are all great ways to visit our area. Free on street parking in front or nearby our home is available with Somerville parking passes we provide.
If using public transportation from Logan , take the Silver line to the Red Line (Outbound) getting off at Harvard Square Station. Although there is a bus that runs by our home on your first trip here, I recommend a taxi from Harvard Station or Logan. This bus runs infrequently in the middle of the day and late evening.
The #86 bus is on the Upper Level of the Busway in Harvard Station. The frequency of this bus is more common in the morning and evening commute, which means every 10-15 minutes. Otherwise it's a half-hour in between buses. Keep in mind, the Busway is cold in the winter and there may not be a place to sit down. If you choose to use the bus, look for the Dunkin Donuts inside Harvard Station. To the right of the DD is a ramp. Follow the ramp to the top and go through the doors. The #86 bus stop is right in front of you. The #86 to Sullivan Station via Harvard goes right by our home. Get out at the Perry St. Stop. The #86 bus schedule is posted on the MBTA website.
After a full day of travel, we highly recommend picking up a cab from either Harvard Square or Logan. Upon leaving Harvard Station cabs going in the direction of our home can be found next to the Out of Town News stand NOT the ones across the street in front of The Harvard Coop. Cabs from Logan are also a great choice. If arriving early or late in the day or especially on a Sunday the cab from Logan will get you to our home in 15 minutes!! Cabs directly from Logan will be $30. Cabs from Harvard University are $10.00. Uber is another way to travel throughout the Boston area. Please see their site for more information.
Other Things to Note
The Somerville area has less traffic during the summer months but it is busy beginning the last week of August throughout the academic year.
If you are new to the area, making oneself familiar with the MBTA (email hidden) is worthwhile. It's easy to get from Logan via public transportation (1 hour) or via taxi (15 - 30 minutes) to our home.
Our style of hospitality includes respect for the guests visiting us and we ask the same in return. We ask that use of the Jacuzzi/Bath/Shower be limited to no later than 10:00p. Upon arrival please remove shoes, which can be left near our side entrance .
Half Bath with small refrigerator under the copper sink. We include milk and a milk alternative. Faucet has water purification option.
