The Space

Guests comment that this third floor suite feels like a tree house flooded with light and air. This 3rd Floor suite includes a roof deck, jacuzzi, bedroom, and bath. Brazilian slate floor, cedar walls and ceiling enclose the jacuzzi area, which is tucked beneath one of two skylights.

Guest Access

Check-in time is between 4:00p-8:00 pm and check out by 11:00 am. Guests are welcome to drop off their luggage and pick up a key before 4:00p. Free on street parking is available with Somerville parking passes we provide. Please use the side entrance found on the right side of our home. We will either be home to meet you or provide you with the combo for the lock box so that you can have a key & let yourselves in. We ask that guests leave their shoes downstairs by the first floor entrance. The 3rd floor suite is at the top of the stairs. The bedroom can be locked and guests have complete privacy.

Interaction with Guests

We have 30 years of local knowledge with varied interests including art, music and food. We love to share our rich history and culture. In response to several requests, we have created two guides. The first one combines gastronomy and history that recommends some of our favorite restaurants along the Freedom Trail. These vary from wonderful ethnic foodie spots to others that date back to the American Revolution (yes, George Washington did drink there). The second reference is a (website hidden) map, which lays out our favorite spots for food, drink and music within a short walk from our home. We are very proud of our rich urban environment and love to foster that appreciation in others.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is very quiet and safe at any time of day or night. This is an old neighborhood that is dense with single and multifamily homes, most built in the 19th century. We are 10 minute walk to either Inman or Union Square, which have numerous restaurants, pubs, consignment shops, bookstores, cafes and galleries. We have created a (website hidden) map as a guide to some of these.
The short walks to Harvard and MIT. Harvard University houses several museums including the Fogg which is undergoing a major renovation designed by Renzo Piano (slated to open in the fall of 2014). Harvard's Peabody Museum and the Museum of Natural History houses the Glass Flower Exhibit. To visit Harvard University join a tour or simply walk through the Yard.
Boston is a short distance away. I regurlarly walk to Harvard in 20-25 minutes then jump the Redline to Park St. station.

Getting around

The MBTA website is great for T schedules and planning. From Logan, take the Silver line to the Red Line (Outbound) to Harvard Square Station, then catch the #86 bus, which stops 50 yards from our home. To catch the #86 bus go to the upper busway in the Harvard Square station. Ask the busdriver for the Perry St. stop.
(#86 bus runs more frequently during commuting times and less in the middle of the day in which case it's easier to take a cab from Harvard or South Station.)
If you prefer a taxi, you can get one either at Logan or at South Station. You can reach South Station via the Silver Line from Logan, which will get you to our home within an hour. Cabs directly from South Station cost $25 approx.
Uber, which provides shared rides is another great way to get access to our area from Logan or South Station.

Other Things to Note

This area has less traffic during the summer months but it is busy beginning the last week of August to early September through the academic year. Bicycles via Hubway are an excellent way to see our area, however they don't provide bike helmets. Hubway bikes are located throughout the city near each T stop and at some popular destinations. We have some 3 blocks from our home. Please go to (website hidden) for more information.

  • Monique and Robert are very good hosts. Their house is a nice wooden house close to a bus stop for the metro station, about 20 minutes from the city center. The neighborhood is very quiet and we enjoyed a lot the jacuzzi and the terrace, both part of the third floor, completely for us. Robert make a wonderful granola available for the guests and the room is equipped with air conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee facilities.

  • We only stayed one night, but had a great experience. The space is designed well, with porch, tub/jacuzzi, and a small table. The hosts were very friendly, and helped us navigate Boston. The neighborhood has some nice amenities, including a great coffee shop/bakery just a few blocks away.

The room is on the top floor of a house, which is great for privacy, but would not be good for anyone who has trouble with stairs.

Hello Ben! Thank you for your review and it was pleasure meeting you both. Thank you for pointing out the stairs, we forget since we do them so often that 3 flights is a lot for some and we need to make note of it on the sight. Take good care, m.

  • Our first AirBNB experience was very positive. Monique and Robert were pleasant and helpful, and we enjoyed their restaurant recommendations and homemade granola. The patio area was beautiful this time of year. We would definitely come again.

Vivien, thank you for such a nice review plus it's helpful for folks to hear that we're close to Boston but not "touristy" as you say. We'd love to have you return for a vacation on your way to the Cape and Islands maybe?:)) Enjoy your summer, all our best, Monique + Robert

  • Monique and Robert were wonderful hosts- very accommodating and full of information about where to eat brunch- we recommend Biscuit- just down the street.
Our bedroom was very private- on the top floor with a wonderful sunken bathtub and access to a roof deck- its very beautifully designed in an Asian/ arts and crafts style.
The breakfast was perfect- teas , good coffee and granola!
We loved the neighborhood, it was a short walk to Harvard area / public transportation and the hosts lent us a visitor parking tag.

  • I stayed in Robert and Monique's 'tree house' loft in Somerville for a little more than 4 weeks in April/May. My stay was fantastic! This is because Robert and Monique are the perfect hosts: they are very kind, accommodating to their guest’s personal needs, and provide the utmost level of privacy while offering a cozy atmosphere.
The loft is a lovely, open space with lots of light, and includes a (separate) garden terrace to enjoy breakfast, and a Japanese style room with a fabulous hot tub. The futon bed is comfortable, and the Ralph Lauren cotton sheets are nice to sleep on. There is a desk and book shelves in the room, as well as a small refrigerator to store milk and juice. The location is convenient if you are working at either Harvard and MIT.
Needless to say, I highly recommend Robert and Monique’s B&B. And if I am in Cambridge for work again, I will definitely stay with them and enjoy those superb Gloucester oysters and lobsters ;)

  • I came up to Somerville for a quick business trip, and the Treehouse was a great fit! This was my first private room on airbnb, usually I just stick with private place, but I have to say I think I've been converted.

I would definitely stay with Monique & Robert again. They were beyond helpful, and the place was super clean.

  • Thanks to insane hotel room costs, wife and I tried airbnb the first time and what an amazing experience it was. We got a highschooler with us and she absolutely loved her small bed on the floor. We loved everything about the place, down to the construction details. Loved the slate tiles and the jacuzzi tub. Robert and Monique are wonderful hosts and we enjoyed talking to them. I would only stay here when the next visit happens.
