About This Listing
Nestled within a stand of lush tropical plants, this unique cottage offers a delightful indoor/outdoor living experience – 3 of 4 walls are screened, opening the studio to the sensual tropical air that is such a wonderful part of Hawai'ian living.
Outside, a covered lana'i and outdoor shower (great after a trip to nearby Ho'okena Beach), are bordered by a bamboo grove and banana trees. A pool and hot tub are all steps away, as are mangoes, avocados and papayas.
Inside is furnished with rattan furniture, a dreamy queen-sized bed, and plenty of space for relaxing. The kitchen is compact and complete – featuring a dishwasher, microwave, 4-burner gas cook top, and convection/toaster oven. Custom-built bamboo cabinetry ties everything together in unmistakable island style.
We loved designing, building and living in our little cottage. It gives us great pleasure to share this love with like-minded guests who are seeking something more authentic than your typical 'condo experience'.
The pool and hot tub are shared with our land partner, and her guests.
We have snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrella that are available for your use. There is a gas grill for your use on the lanai.
Interaction with Guests
There is another house on the property with a full time resident. She will help answer questions, and is available by appointment to take you on a swim with the dolphins!
Island Getaway is located just a 5 minute drive from the beach and Two Step – a great local snorkeling spot. Also Pu'honua O Honaunau, (City of Refuge) a 5 minute drive in the same direction. A must see historical site.
We are in a safe, rural neighborhood. Just a short walk around the corner is the Painted Church, and it's a 10 minute drive to Kealakekua Bay, a great place to kayak and snorkel.
Volcano's National Park is 76 miles further south around the southern tip of the island.
Island Getaway is is about 27 miles (45 minute drive depending upon traffic), south of the Kona International Airport. Although there is a bus that runs once a day around the island, a car is really a must for getting around.
This is a tranquil setting, and we would like our guests to be considerate of this environment.
Beautiful getaway in a great location. Has everything one may need. Wonderful communication. Thank you
The place was fantastic. Just up the street from the best snorkeling on the island. Feels very close to nature, like being a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Has the rugged looks of sleeping under the stars but all the comforts you could need. High speed internet was very helpful in planning our day trips, The smart TV was great for evenings with a bit of mood music or just relaxing with some blended drinks and Netflix. We enjoyed it very much and would recommend to anyone looking to getaway from it all and try something different than a shoebox hotel room.
We loved this cottage , it's just like the pictures ! You're basically living in a tropical setting , with all the amenities you could possibly want ! After a hard day of snorkelling and shopping , it's great to come back to this lovely place , and take a dip in the pool , while soaking in the view of the bay , geckos nearby ! So close to amazing beaches , parks , and eateries , and centrally located for a cross-island day trip in either direction . Will definitely book a return visit , hopefully longer next time !!
special thanks to Erin , who greeted us on arrival , and spent some time making sure we were going to have the best possible time !
thanks , Jim and Rose
Beautiful tropical setting and very private cottage. Incredibly comfortable, this small space is amazingly well stocked with everything that you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. Great location, lots to see and do within a 30 min drive. Cafe just a few minutes down the road is excellent. Great communication with the owners and their caretaker. Only saw the neighbor (full time resident who lives in a separate house on the property) once in 3 days, but was nice to know someone was close by if needed. Would absolutely stay again and would even stay for longer.
Hope and Rennie's cottage was a true highlight of our time in Hawaii. We spent a week here and absolutely loved the setting. The cottage is furnished in lovely rattan furniture and beautifully decorated. The location is quiet, private and surrounded by lush gardens which provide avocados, bananas, mango and lilliquois. The walls are screened, allowing for a feel of living in a beautifully sheltered, spacious, attractive and comfortable space while also having an experience of being close to the beauty of the garden environment.
A pool and hot tub are steps from the cottage door and overlook the sea.
Hope and Rennie were extremely helpful, being available by phone and answering any questions. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, first-aid supplies, and snorkel and beach gear for guests use. The sense we had was one of great hospitality! The location was GREAT with easy access to Kailua-Kona, great beaches and further exploration! Would love to come back myself and would highly recommend it to others.
This place was in the most gorgeous and lush setting. We were in the most convenient location to beautiful beaches and snorkeling in the south Kona area. We were greeted upon our arrival by friendly faces who shared local perks and gave us a quick tour of everything we needed to know about the bungalow. It was also super nice to have water gear (snorkeling/swimming equipment) available and the hot tub and pool were an amazing plus. We felt very much immersed in our setting and were sung to sleep every night by the frogs. The hosts weren't on site but super attentive via email. Thanks so much!
Our nights at the cottage were a great cap to our big island adventure. The grounds were really stunning and we didn't miss the opportunity to lounge in all available settings. The cottage itself is adorable, a great example of how to craft a small and efficient place into beautiful surroundings.
Do not miss: sunset from the park two miles down the road, snorkeling the coast just north of the house, visiting the green sand beach about an hour south (look for the zebra - yes, zebra - grazing near mile marker 87).
