Finca Tierra Food Forest & Eco Lodge (email hidden) for travelers who want to explore sustainable living, connect with nature and eat off the land while on vacation!

The Space

Finca Tierra is a Food Forest & Eco Lodge constructed with jungle farm resources including bamboo, wood and leaf thatch. The structures and layout of the farm take into account patterns, sun, wind and water. The buildings cool and power themselves as well as harvest all of the water and are surrounded by organic gardens, spring waters and a small river. Ecological Design with a rustic elegant finish!

We are a 25 minute beautiful jungle walk from the beach! The farm is design into areas. Area 1, is the Farm kitchen and two gardens with fruits, edible leaves, veggies, herbs, natural medicine and roots. In this area you can also find five cabinas, two campsites, and a dinning/chill out space. Area 2 to area 5 includes the nursery, free-range chickens, main crops, the food forest, timber and bamboo, and giant rainforest trees, home for a variety of animals.

Bamboo cabins are outfitted with a comfortable queen size bed, two night tables, closet, mosquito net, hammock, clothe line, a solar lantern and a pila to wash clothes by hand. Each cabin has a private, modern bathroom with shower, made of bamboo and concrete, and supplied with bio-thermal hot water.

WiFi is available in communal areas.

The kitchen serves three daily farm-to-table meals. Fresh fruits, vegetables, chicken eggs and river prawns are produced just a few feet away from the bamboo kitchen.

Guest Access

Access to beautiful beaches for surfing, for diving, snorkeling and kayaking in a 25 minute safe jungle walk. If you are coming by car make sure is a 4x4 or you would have to walk the last 300 meters. The river is a 10 minute walk into the jungle. We also have springs with fresh crystal clean water!

You will have access to our food forest and organic gardens, also communal areas for hanging out with fire and music. The farm kitchen is always open with delicious snacks and tropical fruit juices. We are located in the jungle surrounded by private rainforest reserve. Tours to the rainforest are also available!

Interaction with Guests

We live onsite, and are always available!
Guests will receive an educational tour of the farm (optional). You are invited to work along side our team and participate in all aspects of farm life and literally, feast on the fruits of your labor! Or, just enjoy a peaceful leisurely time in the jungle being served with delicious healthy fresh meals!

The Neighborhood

We are located near Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, a lush Caribbean beach-rimmed jungle community, and are close to the most fabulous beaches in the south Caribbean of Costa Rica! We are so lucky to have other organic farmers in our neighborhood with which we share knowledge, seeds and fun times! Located up in the hills above the beach we have the fresh ocean breeze and fewer bugs!

Surrounded by jungle, you will see a variety of plants, trees and animals like agoutis, sloths, monkeys, armadillos, anteaters, wild cats, toucans, parrots, and crazy looking insects! Every morning you will hear a beautiful concert of all kinds of colorful birds and every night you will sleep with the ocean sound!

There are coffee shops and restaurants, supermarkets, soccer field, a beach club, the animal rescue center, a few hotels and the bus stop in front of the beach on the bottom of our road. Our road is located between two beached, playa Cócles to the left is a popular surfing and socializing beach, to the right is Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva, with coral tide pools, it’s a great spot to swim in calm waters and snorkel.

Getting around

Parking spaces are available on the property. Bicycles can be rented near the entrance of our road and are a common mode of transport in the area. The public bus stops at the entrance of the road and goes to other local beaches and San Jose. Taxis are also available.

Other Things to Note

Farm-to-Table: Breakfast is $7 per person/ Lunch & dinner are $10 per person
The ingredients that we don’t grow, like honey, meat and milk we buy from local producers.

Our farm practices are guided by Permaculture principles, which is an ecological design science, based on working with, rather than against nature.

Finca Tierra combines elements of educational farm and destination lodge, creating what we hope is one of the most original and innovative vacation available for travelers today!

  • Finca Tierra was (email hidden) to stay.
Ian and Ana are both super nice and we loved spending time with them around the farm. Ian showed us around and told us a lot about farming, fruits and nature and it was so interesting! It was our first experience with permaculture and we definetly want to learn more about it.
The food was awesome. And that everything came from the farm was great.
We stayed at the bamboo cabin which we loved- the air matress is super comfy and feels like a real double bed.
We loved our stay here and would be happy to come back some day!

About
My wife Ana and I run Finca Tierra a small destination lodge and educational farm located in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. When we're on the farm we love cooking, animal watching and beating the midday heat at the river with farm dog Bruce. On the weekends you can find us at the beach fishing, snorkeling or kayaking. We also travel a lot always in search of interesting food, traditional culture, and as a change of pace the hustle and bustle of a big city.
