Peter and Jo where great hosts Which we recommend to all.
On short notice we where able to book the day before, Peter was quick to reply to all communications and work out any details.
Though we are a large family we felt right at home from the very first moment.
In the evening while the kids entertained themselves, we where able to have an entertaining conversation dealing with different topics, this increased our awareness of the local history as well as help us decide on best places to visit and routes to take during our outing the next day.
Rooms are large, comfy, well decorated and clean, so we had a great rest, and awakened to a filling and delicious Irish breakfast.
Which we where able to enjoy as we looked out from the large windows on to the fields with grazing sheep and the far away mountains.
Kids got really excited when Peter offered to show them some of the animas in a nearby farm and had a great time.
When we had to leave Peter guided us to a nearby lookout point where you get a beautiful view of the whole valley.
Want to thank them both for going out of their way to welcome us and give us a feeling of belonging.
We will be sure to visit again, should we come back in the future to this area.
We've just had an absolutely amazing stay with Peter and Jo. From the moment we first contacted them, we felt so welcome and right at home. Peter was incredibly responsive and gave great directions on how to arrive. Once we did, we were welcomed with open arms. When we asked about local places to grab dinner, they graciously offered to make us up something - which we took them up on and it was delicious! We were amazed to see how equipped they were for children as well. They had everything from toys, to a child seat, to a baby bath, and more! We really felt like we'd been welcomed into the home of a favorite aunt and uncle. We had a beautiful sleep in their very well supplied room. The decor is beautiful, beds are comfortable, and space is ample. In the morning, we were greeted with a tasty Full Irish breakfast and were lucky to have had more time to visit and swap stories with Peter and Jo. We most certainly recommend Castle Reek to anyone looking for a beautiful, personal experience in the Westport area!
We had a great time in Westport thanks to Peter and Jo – we have been welcomed as if we were part of the family. The house is very nice, clean and well decorated…all rooms are very large & comfy. The Irish breakfast was HUGE and cooked with local and tasty (website hidden) offered us to have breakfast whenever we want in the morning from 7 am to noon!
Peter drove his car for two hours to show us the touristic spots around Westport…better than having a guide! Peter and Jo go clearly beyond what you can expect from a BnB. We recommend 150%!
We really got the impression that Peter and his wife are passionate about hospitality - going above and beyond what we had expected. They have mastered the balance of letting the guests do their own thing (cooking meals together in their well equipped kitchen), while also being on hand to give local advice and kind offers (insisting on doing the washing up!). Although the house isn't within walking distance of Westport, Peter's kind offers to drive us in more than made up for this. The rooms are clean and big, the showers are hot and strong. I will make a point of staying here again! Thank you Peter and JoJo!!
I have yet to meet nicer and more pleasant people than Jo Jo and Peter, there house is stunning and the whole family are so laid back and welcoming. We had 3 children with us (2 12 year olds and a 1 year old) and they loved it!!They made us all feel like family the two boys have not stopped talking about them and the baby had never slept better than when she got there, the house and hosts were so accommodating to our family, the food was absolutely gorgeous Jo Jo is a true irish mammy and will never let you go Hungary the kids adored her. I cannot recommend this house enough the rooms were exceptional with high powered showers and spacious rooms. Location is absolutely ideal only a few minutes from westport but yet so peaceful, Peter is the best man in mayo and can tell you anything about the place he even took us for a drive to show us the amazing views he is a true gentleman and cannot do enough for you as are the whole family, we cannot wait for are next visit, if anyone is going to westport this is the place to stay beat any hotel by a mile. Looking forward to our next visit Peter and Jo Jo, thank you for our holiday x
Peter and Jo-Jo were wonderful hosts and their home was very welcoming. During the booking process, Peter was quick to respond to our emails and provided easy-to-follow directions for finding their home.
Our room was bright and spacious with a large en-suite. The bed was comfortable, room was very clean and quiet, great water pressure for hot showers. The home is very new so it has all the modern amenities you might expect. One of the nicest features was the amazing views from their kitchen! After we settled into our room, Jo-Jo kindly offered us tea and sweets. We sat around her kitchen table enjoying our tea, the beautiful meadow and mountain scenery, and her company. It's a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere - nothing stuffy here.
After tea, Peter graciously offered to take us around the area, knowing I was interested in learning more about my ancestors and where they once lived. He patiently stopped at various sites for photo opportunities and gave us interesting commentary - whether history facts or Irish folklore. We had so much fun. On the way back to the house, Peter and Jo-Jo invited us to share their dinner. We stopped at a local shop to pick up fruit and wine to add to the fare, and once again, we gathered around their big table. It felt very much like a night at home with old friends as we enjoyed a meal, some wine, good music and conversation - all against the backdrop of that gorgeous vista out their windows.
The next morning, Jo-Jo prepared us a full Irish breakfast. We could have sat at that table all day! (Thanks for the tip on cooking poached eggs, Jo-Jo :-)
Peter let us use his computer to confirm our next destination and to print (website hidden)-Jo offered us water bottles and snacks for the road.
These are kind, generous, down-to-earth people who enjoy sharing their home with guests - though you will quickly feel like a friend, rather than a guest. They clearly love Ireland and want to share the history and beauty of their country with visitors.
We have successfully used Airbnb many times in the past few years, but the Kings will long be remembered as top-notch hosts. They went well above and beyond our expectations in making us feel welcomed in their home, and making our time in the Westport area extra special. We hope to visit again!
Lori & Mark,
Thank you for choosing to stay with me, it was a pleasure to show you where your people came from ( sorry about the odd fright on the narrow roads ), and looking forward to showing you the rest of Mayo, and Connaught on your next trip to the Emerald Isle.
We were a group of 2 adults, 2 17-year-olds and a 21-year-old. Peter and JoJo were so hospitable and did everything they could to make us feel at home. Their rooms were spacious, immaculate and pretty, and the food was abundant and very well prepared. There was no shortage of snacks offered to the boys and we were nurtured so well! Peter is a font of information on local history and culture and made some great recommendations for local sites, even going so far as to take us on a private tour! You can't ask for better in a B&B!
