We had the most amazing airbnb experience with Peter and his family. This location is actually PERFECT if you are planning on taking a trip up to the Anchill Island, making stops in Galway, Newport, Westport to have dinner/lunch/breaks. You can easily drive to Westport from here and at the same time, enjoy peaceful country life. Peter agreed to let us stay at his home about 2 hours before we arrived and the place was warm, new, very clean, very welcoming, and comfortable. After hiking for a day in the cold, we appreciated the amazing hot showers, snacks, and refreshments very much. We greatly enjoyed spending time with our host family and even watched a movie together on our first night there! Our hostess provided cold cuts and all sorts of fancy snacks for us while we watched the movie - her hospitality impressed us greatly! On the morning of the second day, we were greeted with a full flatter Irish breakfast with toast, 3-4 types of sausages, bacon, egg, etc.etc.. None of us could finish all the good food and did not need to eat dinner until 10PM that day after a full day of sightseeing and hiking! Peter basically planned our entire itinerary for day 2 at Anchill Island with annotated print outs from Google Maps. We lucked out on having his help and had the best day of our trip following his plans! Our hostess even woke up early to help us hot press our laundry so that we wouldn't need to travel in dirty hiking clothes! We loved staying with them at their place so much we ended up extending our stay for a night. On the third day, Peter showed us the calves in the shed and explained the entire supply chain to us. For a bunch of city kids, the visit to the shed was very educational and eye-opening. This was by far my most rewarding airbnb experience in every single way! My friends gave me a pat on the back for finding us such a lovely place to stay and we would certainly go back to Peter's place when we head up to the area again. We felt utterly spoilt by his family's hospitality and would like to thank his family VERY MUCH for the most incredible Irish experience!
My wife, daughter and I spent three great nights with Peter and his wife. They were ideal hosts giving us our space but also engaging and socializing with us. Peter has a wealth of knowledge about the area and even took us around for a couple of hours to show us some of the sights in the area. Peter and Jojo could not do enough for us. The even watched our daughter and chauffeured us to and from dinner in downtown.
The home is very clean and as described about 5-7 minutes drive from Westport city center.
I decided to stay a few days more with Peter and Jojo. Their accommodations went beyond my expectations. I was a solo traveler so my room was very spacious, peaceful, comfortable and clean, my privacy well respected and the bathroom was gorgeous. Taking a shower after hiking Croagh Patrick felt like heaven. The full Irish breakfasts were so deliciously hearty even a heavily active person like myself appreciated it. My favorite part was looking forward to the real blood pudding! :) Peter and Jojo were open, kind-hearted and generous in their welcome as I stayed in their home-- very communicative in suggestions and answers before arriving and during my stay. Really down to earth, good people. Peter would take his time to show me the rich history and the beauty behind County Mayo. My stay in Castle Reek would forever remind me how much I will miss Ireland in a personable, intimate, and familial way. They took care of me as I was part of the Irish family. Again, many thanks to these lovely people. Hands down that I would come back to stay with them!
I honestly don't know where to begin except it was the BEST experience staying with Peter and Jojo! Peter was already there to greet me at the train station (after 20 hours of traveling all the way from California) which was beyond warm and welcoming. Although I was a bit tired the first day they openly invited me to have a generous family dinner and really made me feel a part of an Irish family rather feeling like a hotel guest. Then after dinner Peter showed me a rare glimpse, that no tourist would know, spectacular sites that you appreciate the real quintessential beauty of County Mayo. Peter and Jojo were class hosts I've experienced and a gem in itself. And I spent a couple days more with them..! :) Thank you so much for all you've done for me! Next year, I hope to stay with them when I can prep for the Galefore West challenge!! If you want to experienced down to earth Irish country life and family then I fully recommend staying with these wonderful people!
I had Gay stay with me for 3 nights in total, I found Gay to be very sociable and down to earth and of happy disposition, loves to sample and partake in local events and activities that are on offer especially physical activities as she loves to push her self to achieve her goals such as adventure events, loves to hear about local history and to sample native food and beverages, I would love to host Gay again when and if she makes it back to Westport, once again it was a pleasure having Gay stay with me here at Castle Reek View.
Peter and Jo where great hosts Which we recommend to all.
On short notice we where able to book the day before, Peter was quick to reply to all communications and work out any details.
Though we are a large family we felt right at home from the very first moment.
In the evening while the kids entertained themselves, we where able to have an entertaining conversation dealing with different topics, this increased our awareness of the local history as well as help us decide on best places to visit and routes to take during our outing the next day.
Rooms are large, comfy, well decorated and clean, so we had a great rest, and awakened to a filling and delicious Irish breakfast.
Which we where able to enjoy as we looked out from the large windows on to the fields with grazing sheep and the far away mountains.
Kids got really excited when Peter offered to show them some of the animas in a nearby farm and had a great time.
When we had to leave Peter guided us to a nearby lookout point where you get a beautiful view of the whole valley.
Want to thank them both for going out of their way to welcome us and give us a feeling of belonging.
We will be sure to visit again, should we come back in the future to this area.
We've just had an absolutely amazing stay with Peter and Jo. From the moment we first contacted them, we felt so welcome and right at home. Peter was incredibly responsive and gave great directions on how to arrive. Once we did, we were welcomed with open arms. When we asked about local places to grab dinner, they graciously offered to make us up something - which we took them up on and it was delicious! We were amazed to see how equipped they were for children as well. They had everything from toys, to a child seat, to a baby bath, and more! We really felt like we'd been welcomed into the home of a favorite aunt and uncle. We had a beautiful sleep in their very well supplied room. The decor is beautiful, beds are comfortable, and space is ample. In the morning, we were greeted with a tasty Full Irish breakfast and were lucky to have had more time to visit and swap stories with Peter and Jo. We most certainly recommend Castle Reek to anyone looking for a beautiful, personal experience in the Westport area!
We had a great time in Westport thanks to Peter and Jo – we have been welcomed as if we were part of the family. The house is very nice, clean and well decorated…all rooms are very large & comfy. The Irish breakfast was HUGE and cooked with local and tasty (website hidden) offered us to have breakfast whenever we want in the morning from 7 am to noon!
Peter drove his car for two hours to show us the touristic spots around Westport…better than having a guide! Peter and Jo go clearly beyond what you can expect from a BnB. We recommend 150%!
