Great little space for quiet retreats. We have had the most amazing guests stay in what they have called the fairy cottage, garden house, and cocoon room. If you want to get away & enjoy a cozy little space, this is it! Great food at our deli too!
Our charming garden cottage has amazing views of the beautiful Topa Topa Mountains across the field and orange groves. It has served as a writer's studio and a home for four years to two successive individuals. This is surprising as the cottage is very small, only 8' x 10'. It has a twin bed, upper loft for storage (or a second sleeping area), tiny dresser, desk, internet, French doors and windows on three sides and a tiny deck to take in the views.
Bathroom access is in the house a few steps away. There are only one and a half baths in the house. The half bath is dedicated to our guests and we offer the full bath for showering when we leave for work at 9:30 a.m.
Our guests must be prepared to be smothered in love from our extended family of dogs. They live in the yard during the day and are crated at night in the house. The front garden is a "pet free" zone and can be enjoyed as a place for relaxation and dining.
The neighborhood is quiet and within walking distance of the village, our Marche' Gourmet Deli, Libby Park and Libby Bowl, Sunday farmer's market, art, movie theatre, bars and restaurants. There is a trolley stop a block and a half away.
Our place is unique because we are two unique women; an artist/chef and a musician/spiritualist who run a gourmet deli and catering business. Come prepared to enjoy excellent food at Marche' Gourmet Deli!
No kitchen access is included in this space. Bathroom access is in the house a few steps away.
Interaction with Guests
We often have a meal on the first evening with our guests. Most guests are in town for a weekend or week retreat of some kind and seem to be up and out early and return late. So most of the time, we don't see them too much.
It is really beautiful here. We live in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of "downtown" Ojai (which is small). You can see the stars at night as there are few street lights in our neighborhood and we are semi-rural here. Our property backs up to a field, orange groves and a beautiful view of the Topa Topa Mountains.
You can walk just about everywhere, but there is a local trolley bus for around town, and buses that go down to Ventura. There is also a great bike trail that goes all the way to the beach from Ojai (about 12 miles.)
Other Things to Note
Please note that we cannot accept guests with dogs as we have several that inhabit the yard where the cottage is located. They are friendly with people but are territorial with other dogs. It detracts from the peaceful atmosphere that is a hallmark of our location.
We expect friendly courtesy and respect of our home. Because our guests will be using the bathrooms in the house, we appreciate a consciousness of our schedule. Guests are welcome to use of the half bath at any hour and the full bath for showering between 9 am and noon. The dogs alert us when the house is accessed, so we appreciate our guests turning in by 11 pm and respecting the quiet, natural setting here. Please note that smoking is not allowed on the premises at any time. The front garden can be enjoyed as a place for relaxation and dining away from the pets.
The house was exactly as described and the neighborhood was calm and very inviting. Gay and Patricia own a deli and a catering company and the smell of something yummy baking in the oven was an extra element to my visit :}
Thank you for putting me up at such short notice. A very cosy, snug and comfortable space. Say woof to the dogs.
The neighborhhood was quiet, clean, safe and so peaceful! Gay made me feel welcomed and gave me a quick rundown of everything that I needed to know, including local eateries, shopping and a nearby hiking trail. I went to Ojsi by myself for the first time and I fell in love with the little town. I have Gay and Pat to thank for that! Will be staying here agian.
I loved my stay here! Gay and Pat are lovely people and made me feel very welcome, they even went as far to pick me up from the bus, and when I left they took me to my next place (I'm staying at a few different airbnb' around the area). The dogs are lovely, very friendly. The bed was super comfy and has glorious views of the mountains. Head down to their deli for a panini (amazing) and ask to see Pam's paintings! Two lovely women. Would definitely visit again :)
Staying with Gay was the perfect way to enjoy a wonderful weekend in Ojai ~ super warm and welcoming atmosphere and people and the cutest little dogs you can imagine. The cottage is on there smaller side but truly perfect for a weekend getaway...it has all you need including a cozy bed and a sweet mountain view to wake up to. On a quiet street right behind town, so really in the heart of the valley but quiet and secluded at the same time...sweet little spot ~
Gay and Pat were the best hosts. They showed me a new trail to hike and enjoyed a great breakfast at their Delicatessen cafe. The little cottage had a great view and private atmosphere. I am sure to visit there again soon. Thanks!
This was my second Airbnb & it was great. I arrived way later than I originally planned & Gay was very nice about it, and showed me around when I got here. The guest cottage is adorable! And the bed is very comfortable. They have plenty of extra blankets so I was snug as a bug in a rug :) And one of the main reason I wanted to stay here is for the dogs. I've been missing my pets on my travels, and once you give these little ones a chance to sniff you and see your ok they warm right up for pats. Haha they pig pile on each other for a turn getting some love. Too cute! Another great thing is the location-they're a few blocks away from the center of town. And if you go a little bit up the road there is an amazing Vegan Cafe called Hip. Yum!!! I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a quite, comfortable, cozy stay in the middle of it all.
We are both native Californians and have been in Ojai for over 20 years operating first the Garden Terrace restaurant and now Marche' Gourmet Deli right in the middle of town. Pat is a painter, hence her title as "The Painting Chef", and spends most free time in that pursuit. I am a singer/songwriter/spiritualist. We love Ojai for its quiet, beauty and sense of community.
