Great little space for quiet retreats. We have had the most amazing guests stay in what they have called the fairy cottage, garden room, and cocoon room. If you want to get away & enjoy a cozy little space, this is it! Great food at our deli too!
Our charming garden room has amazing views of the beautiful Topa Topa Mountains across the field and orange groves. It has served as a writer's studio and a home for four years to two successive individuals. This is surprising as the space is very small, only 8' x 10'. It has a twin bed, upper loft for storage (or a second sleeping area), tiny dresser, desk, internet, French doors and windows on three sides and a tiny deck to take in the views.
Bathroom access is in the house a few steps away. There are only one and a half baths in the house. The half bath is dedicated to our guests and we offer the full bath for showering when we leave for work at 9:30 a.m.
Our guests must be prepared to be smothered in love from our extended family of dogs. They live in the yard during the day and are crated at night in the house. The front garden is a "pet free" zone and can be enjoyed as a place for relaxation and dining.
The neighborhood is quiet and within walking distance of the village, our Marche' Gourmet Deli, Libby Park and Libby Bowl, Sunday farmer's market, art, movie theatre, bars and restaurants. There is a trolley stop a block and a half away.
Our place is unique because we are two unique women; an artist/chef and a musician/spiritualist who run a gourmet deli and catering business. Come prepared to enjoy excellent food at Marche' Gourmet Deli!
No kitchen access is included in this space. Bathroom access is in the house a few steps away.
Interaction with Guests
We often have a meal on the first evening with our guests. Most guests are in town for a weekend or week retreat of some kind and seem to be up and out early and return late. So most of the time, we don't see them too much.
It is really beautiful here. We live in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of "downtown" Ojai (which is small). You can see the stars at night as there are few street lights in our neighborhood and we are semi-rural here. Our property backs up to a field, orange groves and a beautiful view of the Topa Topa Mountains.
You can walk just about everywhere, but there is a local trolley bus for around town, and buses that go down to Ventura. There is also a great bike trail that goes all the way to the beach from Ojai (about 12 miles.)
Other Things to Note
Please note that we cannot accept guests with dogs as we have several that inhabit the yard where the room is located. They are friendly with people but are territorial with other dogs. It detracts from the peaceful atmosphere that is a hallmark of our location.
We expect friendly courtesy and respect of our home. Because our guests will be using the bathrooms in the house, we appreciate a consciousness of our schedule. Guests are welcome to use of the half bath at any hour and the full bath for showering between 9 am and noon. The dogs alert us when the house is accessed, so we appreciate our guests turning in by 11 pm and respecting the quiet, natural setting here. Please note that smoking is not allowed on the premises at any time. The front garden can be enjoyed as a place for relaxation and dining away from the pets.
I came to Ojai for a two day personal retreat. I had read about a group morning meditation at meditation mount and found a kundalini yoga class online- both turned out to be amazing experiences. To top it off, there was a Kirtan concert in the evening which was amazing as well. I was looking for a private, quite room for my stay. All of the reviews I read about "Must love our dogs" seemed to fit the bill- the room was very cute and cozy- I felt safe while traveling alone and the room was separate from the house which provided the solace I was seeking. After doing yoga and meditation, I came back to my room and curled up with a good book- quiet and relaxation- just what the doctor ordered! Gay and Pat were very accomodating, friendly and their house smelled amazing with freshly baked goodness. Unfortunately, due to my very strict diet restrictions, I couldn't endulge in their food, but it smelled delicious! Thanks for a wonderful little oasis- loved my time with you!
Once I arrived, certain elements made it impossible for me to stay. Next to a large field, the cottage had attracted some spiders that Gay and Pat hadn't had the chance to rid the corners of. A bad experience with the critters in my past had me opt out rather than stay for the cleanup. Gay was immediately helpful and welcoming and also understanding of my wanting to leave. I appreciated our communication and ease very much.
Gay and Pat were very welcoming and accomodating; great hosts! You must try their deli; the food is fantastic! Space is exactly as described and the neighborhood is safe and quiet. Beautiful sunrises out of the window of the little cottage.
This was my first airbnb experience and it has been perfect. Gay and pat are wonderful and so kind. I called gay when I arrived to ojai and she offered to come pick me up from my location and promptly offered me dinner upon arrival. She also drove through tone to give me a your. The cabin is quaint and magical! Song birds singing, sun shining, fruit bushes around the garden. Lots of fun, spunky, adorable pups too! Helped with missing my own animals at home! I can't forget that they offered for me to join them at the ojai Mardi gras celebration and even offered an outfit to dress up!! I would recommend this place to anyone and only wish I could stay longer! Clean, accommodating, comfortable, sunshine!
The house was exactly as described and the neighborhood was calm and very inviting. Gay and Patricia own a deli and a catering company and the smell of something yummy baking in the oven was an extra element to my visit :}
Thank you for putting me up at such short notice. A very cosy, snug and comfortable space. Say woof to the dogs.
The neighborhhood was quiet, clean, safe and so peaceful! Gay made me feel welcomed and gave me a quick rundown of everything that I needed to know, including local eateries, shopping and a nearby hiking trail. I went to Ojsi by myself for the first time and I fell in love with the little town. I have Gay and Pat to thank for that! Will be staying here agian.
We are both native Californians and have been in Ojai for over 20 years operating first the Garden Terrace restaurant and now Marche' Gourmet Deli right in the middle of town. Pat is a painter, hence her title as "The Painting Chef", and spends most free time in that pursuit. I am a singer/songwriter/spiritualist. We love Ojai for its quiet, beauty and sense of community.
