This small and charming row house is located less than 2 miles from all of Lexington's local breweries and downtown. I've compiled a booklet of information on all the breweries for you and provide refillable growlers for use during your stay!
This small and charming row house is located less than 2 miles from all of Lexington's local breweries and distilleries. I've compiled a booklet of information on all the breweries for you and provide refillable growlers for use during your stay!
The home is small but charming at only 728 square feet. Referred to as a “shot-gun” house due to its long and narrow build, this simple architectural structure was brought to America by Haitian refugees in the early 19th century.
Although technically, it is a one bedroom house, there is a full-size solid wood futon with a Sealy posture-pedic mattress that sleeps very comfortably located in the back room. The bedroom has a king-size bed. This house can sleep between 2 to 4 people comfortably by way of the bed and futon. All bed linens, including comforters, are laundered after each guest visit.
Children are welcome, but please note that the only childproofing in the home is outlet covers. There are no cabinet locks.
The kitchen has all the modern amenities needed to cook and clean up, such as a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and a Keurig coffee maker. There are place settings and flatware for up to six, all the necessary pots, pans, and utensils needed for cooking, along with simple spices and oils as well. I provide plenty of Keurig coffee cups for guests to enjoy!
The home also offers free, secure wireless internet and a Roku streaming box complete with a subscription to Netflix and HuluPlus, in addition to hundreds of free Roku channels. There is no cable.
This is a Pet Free house designed specifically for guest use so there are NO personal belongings at this home meaning you can feel free to stretch out and make it your own.
The bathroom has a spacious standing shower, but no tub. It is fully stocked with fresh linens, soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, Q-tips, cotton balls, toilet paper, and a basic hair dryer.
It has everything you need to enjoy your stay in Lexington. It is less than 2 miles from most downtown attractions and new local breweries so going out and touring the city is easy, but the large double lot backyard allows for relaxing evenings at home.
Guests will have access to the entire house and yard. There is off street parking in the driveway alongside the house, but no parking garage.
Interaction with Guests
My interaction with guests will be little to none, unless requested. However, I live nearby and am always accessible by phone, if needed. There is a key-less entry system and a code to access the home will be given upon confirmation of reservation so guests may check in any time after 3 pm on the day of arrival.
Row house neighborhoods are not generally high income areas. Although I am comfortable in the neighborhood, it is blue collar, a bit rough around the edges, and can be intimidating to those more accustomed to the finer things in life. So, if you're counting on white picked fences and polo shirts, look elsewhere. However, things are changing with the addition of the new Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) replacing the old, historic Eastern State Mental Hospital (2nd oldest insane asylum in the USA). As well, there are at least three of Lexington's new artisan breweries within a mile of the house; Blue Stallion, West Sixth, and Town Branch Distillery. This home is a great value considering its amenities and proximity to downtown, campus, Keeneland, the Horse Park, and the new Distillery district.
LexTran is the public transit system of Lexington. There is a covered bus stop two blocks down the street from the house. A bus leaves every 30 minutes from this location to the transit center located downtown. Visit LexTran for details.
Per MapQuest, the home is located the following distances from certain Lexington area attractions:
University of Kentucky Student Center 1.8 miles
Bluegrass Lexington Airport 7 miles
Rupp Arena / Heritage Hall 1.4 miles
Kentucky Horsepark 10.6 miles
Keeneland 7 miles
Center of Downtown Nightlife 1.8 miles
I-64 / I-75 Split 11 miles
If necessary, I can provide access to a Schwinn bicycle with a helmet, air pump, and lock. This is a ladies' bike, but could be used by both genders. The bike makes visiting the city fast and fun.
Other Things to Note
Per local LFUCG zoning regulations, prohibit more than one rental in a seven day period at this property.
*No unregistered guests
*No eating or drinking in the beds!
*No late check-outs unless previously discussed and agreed upon
This is a very cute and cozy house. Comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, easy to use entertainment system with Netflix, Hulu etc. We did not meet Jill but everything went very smoothly with entry via combination lock and perfect instructions on wifi and use of TV. We were able to sit in the back garden and eat at the little table as well as in the dining area. There were plenty of big fluffy towels. The location is close to downtown and the Northside restaurants and breweries.
As advertised. Great place, well appointed. Four of us slept there comfortably. We only spent one night but could easily see staying there longer. Communication was great and instructions were detailed. Would gladly stay there again.
We had a really great stay at Jill's place. I just moved here temporarily to attend an educational program in Lexington, and we stayed at her place for a week while I got settled into my new housing. It was a very warm welcome to my first time in Kentucky. Jill's place is homey and tastefully decorated with lists of interesting places to try and explanations on how to use everything in her cottage. I didn't have to pack any toiletries which allowed me more room in my suitcases for school stuff. It was soggy weather during our stay, however, we still enjoyed her yard and easy access to downtown. I would especially highly recommend her place during Spring through Fall, as the yard and patio are surrounded by trees and I would imagine it would be a great yard to have evening dinners in and morning coffees...although anytime is great. We were running around a lot, and I enjoyed her place so much I wish we could have spent more time relaxing there. She was extremely prompt and friendly with correspondence and her place is even more lovely than all the nice photos on the site. We felt very "at home" and really appreciated being able to cook and have meals at home. The Internet worked great-as my boyfriend works remotely from LA via the Internet. We actually live in an apartment building in Brooklyn, so it was a real treat to have an authentic Kentucky experience with peaceful quiet space around us. I will recommend her place to all my friends that want to visit Kentucky and anyone else that's looking for some welcoming and friendly accommodations.
Jill's place was great. The description is very accurate, and the house is clean, comfortable, and spacious. Jill left lots of info on attractions in the area and some personal recommendations for restaurants and bars, and has growlers you can use at the local breweries.
Definitely recommend a stay!
Jill's home was exactly as listed and even better! Great instructions made for a stress free weekend. Would defiantly recommend a stay!
The listing description was very accurate and Jill was very welcoming. There is a lot of helpful info for local restaurants in the house, which we used and was great! The house was spotless, easy to find, and close to downtown. It is in a transitioning neighborhood but Jill was honest about that upfront and we had no problems.
This was the perfect home away from home! Jill was timely and thorough with her communications. She had everything covered including the keyless entry (which definitely sets this home apart from the others.) The house was cozy and had all of the necessities we could require. The location was ideal and her recommendations for restaurants were fantastic. I highly recommend staying here and will be happy to do so again the next time I'm in town.
My name is Jill. I love chickens, ducks, and guineas, traveling with my husband, junking, going to auctions, and reading non-fiction. I enjoy watching several television series with my Hubby, including American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, True Blood, and The Bates Motel. Fall is my favorite time of year...especially in Kentucky!
I'm an excellent guest in your home; very respectful of your belongings, tidy, and gracious for your hospitality. I strive to be the same as a hostess! I want your stay to be comfortable, private, and fun!
