Close to charming downtown Covington, this adorable 3 bed / 2 full bath cottage is available for your New Orleans or Northside vacation or business travel in South Louisiana. Whether you need just a room or two or the whole house, the location is fantastic. A country feel with quick access to all of the shopping and eating in downtown. The lot is wooded on three sides and it is just a short walk down to the park for an evening constitutional or play on the tennis courts.

The space
The whole cottage, named Shellywinkle by my 5 year old, can sleep 9-10. Couples or individual travelers can rent rooms indivdually if they prefer. The master bed, the Bamboo Room, boasts a queen bed, private slate shower and walk-in closet. The Rose Room and the Palm Room share a garden tub. The Palm Room, twin over a full bunk bed, is great kids' room or small family room with it's own large screen TV. The Rose Room is large and delightful with a full four poster on one side and twin couch/day bed with a pull out twin on the other. The common areas are always accessable and include wi-fi, a large screen TV in the living area, a well appointed kitchen to support home cooked meals, instant hot water, a roomy screened back porch, full-size washer/dryer in laundry area, and plenty of parking. All hard flooring inside with a rose garden and fish pond next to the fire pit outside.

Very quiet and peaceful mornings can be enjoyed on the large screened porch looking into trees. Have your complimentary coffee on the front porch hearing the fountain of the goldfish pond in the rose garden or head around the corner to any of the great coffee places, including Cafe du Monde, home of the original beignets (French donuts). Being within minutes of charming downtown Covington means great food and entertainment is right there.

Making day trips is easy. Less than an hour from the French Quarter in New Orleans, and less than half an hour from the downtowns of Abita, Madisonville and Mandeville, there is no end to the places to see. Shellywinkle can be a home away from home for business travelers, families (with or without kids), groups, and furry friends.

Visitors, please note: Parades will begin in January. Check our Parade Schedule section for specifics. http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/when-is-mardi-gras.html

The most popular time to visit New Orleans is the extended weekend before Mardi Gras (so in 2019 that would be arriving no later than March 1 or 2 and staying through Ash Wednesday, March 6). Come then and you'll be sure to catch the most popular parades, like Endymion, Bacchus, Zulu, Rex and all of the festive celebrations throughout the whole city.

Mardi Gras, or "Fat Tuesday," is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Most visitors will plan to arrive no later than Saturday, March 2, 2019 in order to enjoy an extended weekend of festivities.

Family Gras 2019 takes place Friday, February 22 - Sunday, February 24. Learn more about this FREE celebration of carnival in Metairie with outdoor concerts by both national artists and Louisiana's own!

Where you’ll be

Covington, Louisiana, United States

Creekside cottage is nestled in a woodsy area with a creek trickling nearby. There are bird houses on the property and a goldfish pond by the front porch for nature lovers. In just a few minutes you can be in downtown Covington where wonderful restaurants, microbreweries and unique shops will suit your every mood. You can rent a bicycle and ride on the St. Tammany Trace which was where the old railroad lines ran in previous times. It is 31 miles of peaceful paved space for hiking and biking.

Be sure to visit the close-by quaint villages of Abita Springs and Madisonville for fine dining, antiques and views of the Tchefuncta River. If you're in the mood for some wildlife, go over to Slidell to the Honey Island Swamp Tours, home of the legendary Honey Island Swamp Monster. Here you will experience live encounters with alligators as the boats take you deep into one of the most pristine river swamps in America. Or take the causeway over famous Lake Pontchartrain for the nightlife and excitement of New Orleans. Click on the link below for some things to try while you are in Covington Louisiana.
